I’m actually having a blast with this one. The umbral mechanic is so well integrated and way less gimmicky than I thought it would be. I loved Lies of P as well, but after that, having this massive a title with interconnecting levels and a crazy amount of exploration, weird ass secrets, and build variety, it’s hitting that spot. Between Lords of The Fallen, Remnant 2, and Lies of P, this is truly the year of the soulslike. And they’re actually good.
I’m honestly surprised at how much this game got review bombed. Steam reviews as a collective can’t really be trusted anymore, you have to really dig into them and find legitimate individual reviews. From everything I’ve seen of this game, it looks pretty interesting and the bosses seem fun
@@michaelslaughter7361don’t have to beat a game to call it bad. However the game isn’t bad. PC performance is though but the dev team have been openly communicating they’re working on it
I know performance has been an issue for people but I haven't had any problems other the one crash. The game for me is a solid 7/10. The environment is sick, the armor is insanely badass, umbral mechanic is cool, the combat is decent, the level design could use some work. I really like that it rewards you for perfect block and has a Bloodborne rally system if you regularly block, allowing you to gain health back for being aggressive with shields.
The umbral lamp thing reminds me a lot of Alice: madness returns. You can shrink down at any time during gameplay which reveals hidden platforms/doors etc. This game looks cool to me. I'll probably try it once it gets below 60 bucks.
Omg the opening to this video where he reads a chat that says "you look like you just fought someone" then him replying by saying "I did.... I lost.... his name was vodka" 😂😂😂😂😂💀💀
Its UE5 issue. Because its newer than UE4 or other engine, fixes and optimization posted by game maker community are so little. Crash, FPS drops are all over the place on some pc. I mean. Even RTX 4090 wuth 32 GB of RAM and high end CPU cant run this game at 60 fps without upscalling it. I play in RTX 3050 16 GB in lowest setting and the game crashes once every 10 minutes. My record is an hour without crashing, then my friend wants me to stream it on discord and it crashed instantly
@@TheKnightCrafter123 and then there are tons of people like me running a RTX 3070 playing on high settings and having constant 60 FPS with nearly no drops at all and not a single crash yet with over 40h into the game. I'm not saying all the people with those problems are lying but its extremely weird that some people have extreme problems and others don't have any problem at all. From what i've seen charly also doesn't seem to have any problems
@@Handzup2You have one of the highest gpus 😂😂😂 ofc there's no problem on your end. But that doesn't excuse the game from being unplayable if you don't have a pc that's worth more than 3k 😂😂
just got the game. it’s really good, camera needs some work during some bosses but the combat is really nice and exploration is super fun with the lantern. enemy density has been turned down so it’s a bit easier, and bosses seem to pose more of a challenge
Im not gonna lie Pilgrim's Perch was a fucking nightmare for me to get through and I genuinely didnt want to keep going, but once I got through it I began to enjoy it a lot more and didn't feel as lost.....yet... Ive got a lot of the game left so we'll see.
Are you saying it ironically ? Cause damn the boss that spawns ifninite dogs is some absolute shit and this first one you can t even it with a sword that swipes horizontally cause she flies a bit too high for that . And that s all i ve seen before dropping it
The only massive issue this game has is putting Pilgrim's Perch in the beginning of the game. I get it, it works geographically and the like, but it's too chaotic and narrow to put that early into the game when you're trying to get people who are on the fence interested in the game itself. It should have been an entirely optional, or mid game at the earliest, that way the playerbase already has enough experience with the game to not be filtered by it.
The biggest issues I have with the game is the lack of impact from attacks on both parties and the weird voice acting. The impacts are so spongy I'm not even sure enemies are getting hit sometimes, especially bosses. The voice acting is just strange and I can't place why. Lile with the second main boss you fight, her voice sounds like she's just reading off a page with every single letter being articulated
If you’re using smaller weapons it will have less impact. I was using a great hammer and now great sword, and charged heavy attacks actually flip enemies up and flat on their back like a pancake. And reg attacks do considerable weighty damage as well. As far as voice acting, not sure if this is your first souls game, or second if you got into it recently with Lies of P. But most From Soft games have similar voice acting. Soft spoken, less produced and less flashy, less emption and inflection. It’s just par for the course on the mysterious dialogue within an obtuse way of storytelling. Felt right at home with it honestly.
@@mandrews6282 nah I've played my fair share of Souls-likes and none of them have voice acting like this. It's like the voice actors are enunciating every individual letter so that the audio doesn't mesh together. It's the way you talk when you're irritated and someone says to you "say it again?" for the third time. Pieta especially has some weird voice acting. The accent just doesn't fit ig and it kinda makes her cutscene a bit "cringy" for the lack of a more appropriate word Also, I still don't find larger weapons have enough impact. Yeah, it's there, but it's really muted. Why does this 80 lbs hunk of metal I'm swinging into someone's head feel like it's a 20 lbs foam sword? These things aren't really ruining the game and I still think it's fine, but these things are too bizarre to overlook
How? Every enemy is reacting and several times he knocked a boss out of an attack pattern. Normally the great hammers (what he's using) will stagger a boss every 2-3 hits.
Here's a reddit comment that explains it: "Weight" in this context refers to the audiovisual feedback of combat. It potentially means things like hit stun, screen shake, low-frequency sound. It's about "feeling" the combat, not about a metaphysical "weight" to the decisions you make, or about the complexity of the system." Go to 49:30. Does it look like he's swinging a weighty, metal hammer against solid, grounded, flesh and bone? No, it looks like he's swinging a wiffle ball bat, and the enemies are simply allergic to wiffle ball bats.
@@Ninjujitsu Yes, it does look like he's swinging a weighty hammer around because that's how something reacts when it's hit with a hammer. He's also using light attacks, heavy attacks will throw enemies back or slam them to the floor. Also this is the same kind of hit feedback that's either equal to or better than most of the souls games.
@@lich109that's BS. No, other souls games don't feel this bad. You're telling me the feeling of a parry in this game has the same effect as that in Sekiro? 🧢
@@radiantveggies9348 Sekiro is a different style of game entirely and I never brought it up, you did that in a pathetic strawman right here. Other Souls games feel exactly like this or worse, even if you have a massive weapon in those games, if you just do light attacks you get the exact same kind of reaction.
I enjoy the hell out of this game I played it basically the second it launched and yea there where graphical bugs and lag but it was still fun and I enjoy the combat also there is a monkey armour later in the game
Well yeah, not many people like watching someone dissect the lore and muck about for too long these days. Gotta keep the content flowing to keep the views coming and the money rising. It's completely reasonable when you think about it.
@@SluggedNuggwhat the...i hate when people just relates things to "money generating" bs. Not saying you are wrong and you might be RIGHT. but some people really do not care about lore and stuff and just want combat. Im not a streamer but most of the time i skip dialogues, cutscenes and stuff.
really not getting the hate for this one, its a really decent AA, middleware souls like, with a few fun mechanics that could be neat in Fromsoft game. Which is exactly what a middleware, AA game should be.
@@cyrusthe0ther795 my gripes are firmly design ones. - bad balancing - labyrinthine levels and dual world mechanics that encourage exploration but endless gank squads and respawning enemies that discourage it - fodder enemies having too much health and doing to much damage - too many ranged attackers - low enemy variety yet insane enemy quantities - lackluster bosses - bad sound design - middling story - issues get even worse the further you get - new game+ removes permanent seedbeds and the fast travel Theres more but I just though it was mediocre.
@@dominicdococo4574They just added the checkpoints back to NG+, and I’d pushback a bit on the too many ranged enemies. While there is undoubtably a lot, they are there to force you to use the ranged weapon/spell system that they implemented. It’s by far the best new feature in the game, so it’s no surprise they want player to engage with it. Whenever I enter a room or level with some ranged enemies I just pull out my crossbow and take em out. And the level design has been quite good IMO. I like getting lost and having to search for the way forward. I would agree with you on everything else tho. Cheers.
I’m on Xbox series x and the frame rate drops instantly make me turn it off every time I hop into a boss fight, I’ll keep it downloaded and hope for a good patch but after playing lies of p and how buttery smooth it was I can’t play this. Really want to get into the game but until performance is fixed it’s unplayable/unenjoyable
I played this game for about thirty minutes last night. It's hard to judge the game this early but I already dislike the movement, the camera, and the UI. Something about the visuals made it difficult for me to process. No matter where I placed the camera, it feels like you're always looking at the world from an unusually low angle.
Maybe I'd be alot more interested in trying this game if it wasn't 120 dollars almost a month after release. games are getting way to expensive nowadays I remember when you could pick up the newest game on release for only 30 bucks and that seems like a dream now
Idk how, but FromSoft has mastered enemy animations, they feel like every boss has been mocapped by literal monsters, i think you kinda can tell these animations are hand made especially by the quick sudden boss attacks and enemy lunges.
The game is actually fun i'm enjoying it. I actually liked Lies of P combat better, but I love the level design in this game. Kind of irritating so many people judge this game so harshly literally within the first 20 minutes. I will admit, I was starting to get turned off because of the performance problems but some of the recent patches seemed to have fixed most of it. I'm much further into the game now and the overall world is really cool. Once you can upgrade weapons, slot ruins, and really tinker the type of build you want. I went with a radiance strength. It's a far cry from Elden ring but nowhere near as bad as some people are saying.
Im having fun with the game, but it has some issues. The combat feels pretty unpolished and the lock on is pretty jank. Still the worlds are really cool and I love the exploration.
I was debating what to spend my leftover beer money on, either Lies of P or this. I won’t get into the whole spiel about my life choices, my antics and my preferences on what makes a good game. I will say Lies of P won by a long shot. (The game runs smooth and has enough ideas to indulge my fantasy of this being a great franchise. The Dorothy arc is interesting and every game developer starts somewhere. If this is their Demon souls equivalent, we need to pay attention. Great developers learn from mistakes and feedback and this studio pulled off this shit! We all asked for ‘fuck me bro but the bosses were too hard (which they were, Asmongold had a good take on that.) Fuck Me! It’s like Bloodborne with some Kingdom hearts elements with hearts and confused otherworldly story building. Last point while I enjoy my glass of ‘who fucking cares’ rose. Round 8 studied the tapes hard and made a great game with a vision. There is a big picture in mind and after 1 mill sales from us, the people, I’m excited to listen to their next tale with hopefully double the budget. P.s Charles is moist.
Lies of P. It's no contest. This game is a mess technically and it's boring to play. People are just defending it because they preordered it without thinking and don't want to admit that they wasted $60.
Depends, lies of p is prettt good but i wont pie i got bored a bit throughout the game, very linear as well. Just got LOTF today and am having a goodtime exploring and trying new things out. But i am so tired rn so gotta wait till tomorrow
it runs like absolute shit on xbox but that's really the only issue with it right now. similar feeling to DS2, great bosses and a cool storyline. umbral mechanics are cool and new, reminds me a lot of mortal shell which isn't a bad thing at all
That soul flay mechanic is so useless. I don’t even understand the point of using it unless you’re trying to make an enemy fall off the edge somewhere. You only do wither damage. Why not just attack them normally? I think I only used it during the hollow crow fight and that was it.
The biggest downfall of this game for me is that all of the weapons feel the same, and there's nothing that separates them from each other. Duel wielding does nothing useful, heavy attacks attack slower, but deal the same damage as a light attack, and there are no special abilities. There are 3 different move sets and that's it. You get a cool new weapon? Well it turns out it's identical to the one you're already using, just like the last 5 weapons you picked up🤦♂️
I played the game since release to monday and I beat it and it was an amazing game easily in my top 15, best souls like ive played besides fromsoft games, now I gotta ng+ and do the other endings
The levels design for this game is on another level, easily the best out of any souls likes excluding fromsoft games. The environments are amazing as well.
Not weirdly, its getting reasonable critique. Everyone likes to just boil people not liking a game to "hate". Also boil it down to "performance issues" when there are dozens of comments reading out their gripes with the game.
wtf people saying they got performance issue are a question to me i got the game pirated and it runs smooth on my amd 3600 and 1 gb gbu the rest of my pc is bad too but its enough for 60 fps on mid settings ive never had an lag or crash and im almost done like you can legit build my pc for less than 300 thats should be even less than the new consoles? lol steam user review bombing that game are just mad
As someone who played the original a whole lot to fully 100% the game I don’t appreciate this. It’s more work. And more time I’ll now have to waste 😂 nah jk
luckily they've been serious about patching the issues. most games that came out in a bad state this year got minimal effort post launch and are left with many issues remaining. I don't think that'll be the case here.
The game looks interesting but I'll pass on this one. Burnt out on these Souls like games and this game looks tedious (especially the latern mechanic).
@@Hiroshishigami-uz1gc that was rude i’m sorry, obviously i’m the one in the wrong to have a lies of p pfp just looking at my comments and saw this i was MAD defensive about this game for no reason
@@ShikiRyougi05it’s crazy that one innocuous comment got under your skin so bad you just had to reply and tell him how you felt, you could have kept to yourself and just kept scrolling lol
so why do so many people hate this game? I think its pretty fun. I been playing it coop with my cousin and its been a pretty fun game so far. yeah its pretty easy if you coop it but i have played a tiny bit solo and its got some pretty difficult bosses and areas.
As someone who just completed the platinum for this game after 6 playthroughs, this is a phenomenal game. It’s a bummer to see people hating without experiencing it first. As good as the best souls game, and has a fully interconnected world, more so than DS1 or any other souls game before. It’s amazing what they’ve created
idk why ive played every single soulsborne game but this one just didnt hit the same for me. its a similar theme and all but i just cant bring myself to continue playing this game, same goes for lies of p
@@chick-fil-achickensandwich5403comments like this are so cringe. The game just can put and in soupposed to believed this loser in the RU-vid comment section has a well thought out opinion
For me it's the sluggish combat (anyone comparing to Bleak Faiths combat is on crack though its not nearly as bad as that), the various required use of the lantern which I find flat out annoying and the seemingly random spawning out of nowhere enemies all the damn time alot of which have projectiles. As someone else has stated the aesthetic is great but the gameplay for me is truly annoying. I don't enjoy playing the game but I don't mind watching people play it.
The EULA text..the intro.. Christ..It's like they literally copy/pasted From Software's franchise. Edit: Not to say I don't like it. Souls franchise is one of my favorite ever. Quite eager to play it in the near future.
