I used to interpret this as "look for a present to give yourself" like a donut or new shoes, but I think it's really more of "don't reject the presents that life presents you with." Like feeling sleepy and having a nap, accepting a cup of coffee when offered, or buy something on a whim. Don't go out looking for them but appreciate the things that life puts in your path.

Of course, Lynch, the set and costume designer, all had a fetish for the post-WWII boom. I think it's something he makes a point of to construct, deconstruct and reconstruct in every single project of his. Twin Peaks season 1 and 2 both posit this. Fire Walk with Me deconstructs it, and The Return puts it on it's head.

This so true, yet why is it we find it so difficult to just be in the present, when its all we really have in life, is the given moment? Loved the buddy comedy and chemistry these two had. Hilarious and heart warming, maybe more so because of all the crazy sh*t going on around them.
