@Layla Lover fun fact: no one really cares. The "numerous" people reacting to any given thing on twitter tends to be the same few hundred people terminally online anyway. You wanna make art of Bridget being trans? Go for it. You wanna make art of goku with caramel skin and a rockin fro? Take it to the next level! But don't get pissy when people put Tracer with Soldier 76.
Tian Kazuki is an absolute gigachad. His twitter profile banner literally means "Men have (their own) tastes" in Indonesian. And he handles this dumpster fire drama like a goddamn boss. Not only that, he literally pulled the best "no u" i've ever seen in this hellhole website and claimed that W he absolutely deserved. Mad respect o7
Is it weird that when Rev said "They're canonically lesbian", my very first thought was "Well, are they ACTUALLY lesbian, or is it just twitter-canon that they're lesbians?" Since the freaks on twitter want every single female character to be lesbian.
Iirc they're not actually lesbians, just really close friends, at least in Honkai Impact. In Star Rail (alt. universe) they're more like frenemies, though it's mostly because Seele is the "tough love" kind of girl. So basically, the whole Seele x Bronya ship isn't even canon technically speaking. I personally don't blame shippers for seeing anything between the two characters but the idea that they're madly in love and lesbians is pretty out there. And even if that was the case, nobody fucking cares. They're fictional characters ffs. But hey, that's Hoyoverse fans for you. Only some of the most toxic gacha gamers out there. They're just deranged enough to have gaslighted themselves into believing that Bronya and Seele are lesbians and touch so little grass that they manage to act as if such a trivial matter is at the core of their very being.
Adding unto McCaroni's comment, the game is pretty much made in China, so gays or lesbians are kind of a bad idea. HI3's "canon lesbians" are shippers doing their thing fueled by what little fanservice the game could provide. As far as I know, the only canon ships in HI3 are straight couples that are married.
I'm pretty sure they *want* the labels. They say they dont want to be labeled, and they say they want to be treated like normal. Yet their actions prove otherwise. And besides all that nonsense, they cant even use english words properly. A phobia is an irrational fear of something; not just disliking it. A phobia *has* to be irrational, and *has* to be a fear. This is what happens when education fails.
Kuratse is right. Basically, lesbians were so upset that the word homophobia became common vernacular that didn't apply just to them or their chosen allies that they had to go out and invent a new label just for them.
The important takeaway is how the artist handled it. Didn't apologize, didn't cave into pressure, didn't say they'll "do better next time." They recognized that twitter people are some of the most thin-skinned, spiteful, temperamental bullies on the planet, and the only persist because there are a lot of them, and too many people don't wanna deal w/ their insanity. So good on the artist for standing up for themselves

“You straight shippers don’t understand friendship” is... such a lovely line coming from a shipping brainrot part of any fandom. Just speaking from experience with my own toxic hellhole fandom (Wings of Fire), I’ve seen people ship characters for having the incredibly romantic traits of... being the same gender and existing near each other (sometimes not even that). And then when I break up the two darling F/F ships, I’m homophobic, even though one *isn’t fucking canon* and the other one is done in favour of a different F/F ship. Don’t touch the WoF fandom with a 10-foot pole kids, there’s so much anti brainrot that the largest community bans canon ships for having an age gap.

"You straight shippers don't understand friendship" is the single most tragically ironic thing these people have ever said considering they don't allow a single character to interact with another character (especially of the same sex) without sexualizing and fetishizing them. These people are literally terminally online fujoshis whose entire digital footprint is fetishizing gay relationships, declaring them canon, and attacking people over whatever fantastical sexuality they project on them. this is exactly how i look at it. headcanon/fanfiction is the place to turn to when a ship one wants to happen doesnt. ppl have been changing character's sexual orientation for years in the past, its nothing new. hell, back 10-15 years ago, if one wanted a non canon ship based story, they would either turn to fanfiction, and if they didnt find it, they would write it themselves. thats what fanfiction was and still is for
They’re fine with the other way around but let it be a fictional straight ship and they lose their minds over it. Their hypocrisy is showing (not surprising cuz it’s Twatter). Never apologize to the weirdos who find an issue with how you want your own artwork to be.

A definition's a definition, there's no exceptions. These people are just bigots, plain and simple. The art is amazing, I just love depictions of love. We shouldn't see sexuality, we should see love. Love is love.
Love is love. Sadly, twatters are worried about their agenda, and wonder why no one takes them serious. Like when they tried to cancel Bayonetta, a canonically bisexual woman who had a relationship with a girl, for dating a boy. Because bisexuality is okay only if its the gay half of it.
While this is an iconic yuri ship in the sense that these characters are reoccurring as being together in the franchise in their iterations, it's still just fan art. Shipping art like this has always existed. It's done on iconic straight and even yaoi characters too. It's not a big deal in and of itself. If someone really is so bothered by it, I guess they could just imagine this as a bisexual polygamy thing as well, that way the two of them are still technically together in one's headcanon about the fanart, but, as I've addressed this before, it's not really a big deal that art like this exists for any character.

@riot kitty Fucking tell me about it. There's this show that I used to like called RWBY that's gone downhill over the years. And one of the main things that damaged it, was the shippers. Namely, the ones that ship the two main female characters Blake and Yang with ship named Bumblebee?
As a honkai player aka a captain, this digust me. Let me get this straight, there is not a canon ship ever, if the dev say it's canon then it's canon, if the dev saids nothing, go to town with the shipping. Rita in the Kiana verse (HI3rd) is likely in a relationship with Durandal, but in the same game with dif unniverse, Rita is canonically in love with the Captain. There is no OTP in Hoyo-verse cuz in that vast multiverse there will always be another choice to make, the shipping is endless. And please for the love of god let artists draw what they want to draw, like many other games, artists are like the back-bone of the community, if there is no artist that wants to draw fan-art of your game, you are doing something wrong.
I mean, even if the dev say a ship is canon, you can still make non-canon ships with those characters, as long as you don't act like an unhinged monke.
Using the MC's quote for when they use their Ultimate "Rules are made to be broken." to clap back at that hater was just *chef's kiss*. I fucking loved that.
We need to make it a standard double down to draw the shipping in a happy family whenever these hypocrite activists make up drama. This is parentless behavior and they seethe at the idea of people having healthy families.
@@tumamaencosplay Most of these people have parents, they just never cared about them, just gave them anything they wanted. Then they used the insecurity that came from this to bully other people as a kid, and then, as an adult, they cope with the fact they're so pathetic they can't effectively bully anyone in real life anymore by trying to bully anyone on Twitter.
To clarify a bit : These two characters are bronya and selee from honkai star rail. They got two alternate versions, one in GGZ where they are in love, and one in HI3 where they kissed and are close. In honkai star rail, they are alternate version/not canon version of them, where they did not know each other personnally, they even hated each other before the main character (dude on the fan art) appear to help them get along. Following this event, they just become good friend and that's it. In Honkai Impact 3rd/GGZ the game is a lesbian bait cause 90% of the char are lesbian, so this game is a representation of LGBT people for them. They even ship Su and Kevin (whose got a Girlfriend btw) who are two straight chars and just friends together. Following this, we have the genshin fandom which ship all the char together (ninguan/beidou kaeya/diluc and so on) and said they are lesbian/gay even tho they are straight, and see themselve like brother etc Even shipping the newly released char Kaveh with Althaim just because they are roomate and even tho they hate each other (but can give advice etc). Even hating when people ship Aether x female char (popular ayaka), cause they just hate straight ship and just want all char to be LGBT. But if you put Lumine ( Fmain char) x F char, they are happy and shut up. Even hating the art of Layla and aether stargazing cause they wanted to be Lumine and Layla. When Aloy (horizon zero down char) who's a collab char and irrelevant to the game/story was depicted lesbian, they were happy cause it's a representation for LGBT people. So basically, adding hi3 + genshin shipper create a whole lot of "heterophobia" and misandry (they say this doesnt exist), cause all hoyo game are representation of LGBT people for them. Ps : they shouldn't play or lool at Tear of Thermis Sorry for my bad english
I haven't touched on the other issues, but from a male Genshin Impact player's perspective, the problem with Aether with girls is that Aether tends to be a bit too over Alpha.( The shorts of Aether playing opposite the other Genshin girls with the aviator sunglasses still make me cringe... ) If you let Aether passively accept the pursue of girls like a submissive boy, it's a lot easier for people to accept.
@@user-hv6bm4jp6g too be honest from a male player perspective too I don't really mind or care about ship, i'd rather see them being made official instead of teased, if you see what I mean. Yep. This is going on with me too. I can’t draw a straight ship anymore without being called out for the lack of LGBTQ drawings. But I can’t help that I prefer to draw straight ships because I’m straight myself… Me drawing a straight ship because that’s my sexuality doesn’t automatically make me an anti.

As someone who mostly draws gay art I agree: people should be able to ship whatever they want. As long as you're having fun then that's the only metric that should count. I seriously don't get these people, back in the old days we just used to say: "If you don't like it then either go somewhere else or draw it yourself." but appearantly that's a difficult concept to grasp these days. Just let people enjoy what they like and you go enjoy what you like, it's really that simple.
The funny thing is that there are more layers to this that Rev doesn't know about since he's not in the know about the Hoyoverse games. Firstly the "rules are made to be broken" is the ULT line that the MC uses (aka the guy in the ship art) so it's super fitting Secondly, Bronya x Seele being canon lesbians is actually only in Honkai Impact. Meanwhile, in Star Rail which is what the ship arts are of, they are completely different kinds of characters and are just friends and aren't canon lesbians. So people are basically fighting over an 'established' ship that isn't even canon in Star Rail's context. And the irony of this 'canon ship' ordeal is that these are the exact same people who will ship Ei x Yae from Genshin and claim they're canon lesbians....except those two characters are in canonical lesbian relationships with DIFFERENT people in Honkai Impact. Mei x Kiana is the canon ship, and Yae x Kallen is the canon ship. These people literally trip over their own logic and don't even stay consistent. Also Rev, the WIP that's posted is of an older Aether and Mona from Genshin, not the same ship(s) they drew earlier unfortunately, as based as that would be
These twitter freaks are such hypocrites. They get mad over this fanart yet these are the same people who keep imposing their headcanons on characters and proclaim them to be "coded" a certain way.
As someone who's done both straight and les characters years back and the people flocked to my straight characters and shipped them with the les's, even though I said I doesn't work for the story I wanted to tell when they asked me to make it canon but they still went ahead and I didn't bother about it because it was great art, better than my own. It's funny seeing this being more common now, some people really do go crazy for anything that affects their shipping in their head.

@@kimikoscult1948 Yea, it's their Star Rail version that the artist drew. Antis used the comic where Bronya and Seele kissed in HI3 as reason that they are lesbians but that's a whole different universe. Edit: oh the vid showed it
to be more accurate, none of them are canon lesbs. the closest we got was a kiss between Bron and Seele, but it was in a manga panel that Hoyo lowkey wants you to forget about. their relationships are purposefully made ambiguous so Hoyo can say they're "very close very good friends" whenever the government officer knocks on their proverbial door about all that age stuff in their waifu gacha game
When you realize that the "lesbian" characters are made just to be fetishized. Edit: to clarify, that's the selling point of the characters so you should not look for genuine representation from a gacha game. Everything is made to sell.
@Yuma-chan I feel like Love Live (at least the original one) doesn't count here since, thanks to a number of character songs and post show stuff shows that pairings established in the series between the characters ARE supposed to be interpreted as lesbian pairings and I think it's evident by the fact that Sunshine isn't nearly as explicit as OG is also kinda proof of this. You could, I suppose, argue that they are meant to be S-class lesbians, which is an old term used to refer to how in series with majorly female casts would often pair those characters together romantically but in a way that was clearly meant to only be temporary and that such relationships would break off when the cast went their separate ways at the end of the series. Basically queerbaiting. It's also worth noting that S-Class has become frowned upon and not just in the Western Audience, for that reason. In fact, the last series I know of that was explicitly supposed to be S-class was Lyrical Nanoha and the (Japanese mind you) VAs literally protested and refused to perform the characters until the writers changed the ending so that Fate and Nanoha got together which each other instead of the male characters who were introduced in the final season to be their romantic partners and those characters ended up being written out of the series.
Lol I joke all the time that Da Wei is just sitting in his office beating his dick to all the bronseele porn and shit these idiots make while crowing about how Hi3 is "great representation". Did these morons forget that a Honkai story writer did an interview and the screensaver on his work computer which was in full view of the camera btw, was literally the cover of an Elymei porn doujin? I'm telling you, the majorly male development staff at Mihoyo is not writing lesbians for representation, they're doing because they get off to it.
Apparently, when a character is made for its selling point to be its sexual orientation/gender identity, its called queerbaiting and its kind of bad, like its shoving the fact down our throats for some reason.
"Screwing up an canon ship that has been established for years." Bruh... The game just came out A FEW WEEKS AGO. And yes, i know that the game had a few beta tests before but no one was going gaga over these "established ships" until now!
The canon ship they are even talking about is even from a different universe and so far in HSR the ship they are talking about is just head cannon they are just friends at the moment. Edit: Hoyoverse even low keys never promotes lgbt stuff directly due to China regulation and can make excuses that they are just good friends so established ship is a loose term that can change at a moments notice if this gets out of hand which would suck tbh.

This is so strange! Moe characters aren't meant to be about representation or politics... They're meant to be about feelings. They're supposed to make us feel affection, not to be used as a tool for political views. Like it or not, these aspects aren't compatible. Because politics inevitably brings about discussion and arguments or clashes about the real world, while "feelings for characters" is about one's personal space and freedom of mind, within a space and context meant for escapism. So it's okay and very common actually, that there's a wide variety of expression with Moe characters (including portraying characters in ways they orignally weren't intended to). Even if others don't like it it has to be respected, because that's the spirit of Moe and its manifestation in anime / manga / novel / game fiction. I'm glad I don't get to participate in English twitter often because of that... I hope it changes in the future, though!

Oh, the double standard. You can do your business but don't stop others from doing theirs and forcing your ideals on them. Funnily enough, I see RWBY animation as confusing plot but the fandom are good. Well, not everyone but you get the gist.
@@wickie-search Actually, it doesnt really mean anything. According to a bunch of people, the artist done a lot of lesbiphobic things in the past that attracted quite a ton of people going after him, hence how this incident happened. If you draw a straight ship where both characters dont have a confirmed sexuality, you wont receive any harrassment (Take any straight non-problematic ship in Prsk fandom for example, like emukasa or akian)
Characters wearing different color clothes and having a different skin color in art is also fine because they are based on palette swap characters in fighting games to see which of the same characters you are controlling. Cosplayers can do that too.
The artist is smart, they could easily just draw one of the two but purposely made art of both knowing that they are shipped together, just free attention for him thanks to twitter users.
I mean you really can't blame the man for wanting attention. At the age of ai drawing, illustrators are at the risk of getting unemployed. He could use every attention he get.
They kissed once in HI3, but tbf there's no romantic relationship statement(plus theyre loli in HI3, quite ironic) If you ever met one they will spit out those 'lesbian coded' argument at you and mald
Bruh, these people are glass canons. They spit and spit, but when someone spit back, they shriveled and deleted their alternative accounts they used to spit.
I've seen lesbian Anna & Elsa so many times, did I hear any of these twitter hypocrites call out underage Alabama? I don't think so. Even better, gay Anakin & Obi Wan.
The best part is that they aren't even lesbians LOL Bronya and Seele only kissed in the HI3 manga, in HSR they only care about each other and nothing more. They're not the same person, the only character from Honkai Star Rail who is actually the same person from Honkai Impact 3rd is Welt
"If you don't like what I like and think is best, you're a POS!" is the typical mindset of your average Twittter freak. Such admirable and praiseworthy people.
As a veteran Captain, the second-hand embarassment I feel from these Antis is stronger than Kevin. We definitely do not claim those. As for some clarifications: No, the ship is not canon. Hoyo has definitely *leaned on* the ship (keyword here) since the days of GGZ, but not even once the status of that relationship has changed to "official". The closest thing is one panel from the Azure Waters manga, which MHY kinda wants us to forget, lest the CCP comes knocking on their doors. This is very important because it also applies to all other lesb ships these people might claim as "canon". Hoyo purposefully made these relationships as ambiguous as possible so they can say "see? they're just very good friends!", because they're not legally allowed to fully commit. It's been a running gag in the Honkai fandom that any new girl will be gae until contrary proof is giver (Law Number Two of Honkai Impact), but that's it, a joke. As for the art in question, the designs are from Star Rail. While it is linked to Honkai, more so than Genshin, that doesn't mean these versions of Bronya and Seele are the same as their Honkai counterparts. Shit, within Honkai we have Bronie, who is already vastly different from OG Bronya. And even if that wasn't the case, then does it mean all the BakuDeku trash needs to go too? It's a low price to pay, in my opinion. But of course the antis have double standards, or else they wouldn't have standards at all. Damn, again, this is so embarrassing. I'd rather have another GBL anniversary drama over this...
i mean the ggz and honkai 3rd only have playable female character, make sense since it was literally waifu selling game. Hence if they want to make a "relationship" story they had to go yuri or else player who self insert will sperg (more so since both game don't have a representation of the player, only "captain" in hi3 but there's no model)
