What is Algor Mortis and which of the Stages of Death is it?
Photos used in this video were acquired from online and the original source could not be identified. The photos were not acquired through my work as an embalmer or funeral director.

Kari, I'm learning so much from you, like you know, my husband passed away 2 weeks ago, but I love all the information you provide. After all, the soul goes back to God, and the shell is what is left. Keep up your amazing videos

My Prayers and thoughts are with you Carolyn 🙏🏼 I agree, Kari is amazing! She has really taken the uncertainties/fear of death away. Of course it’s never easy, but ‘knowledge is power’ is very true.

Have you ever started the embalming process and found what appears to be homicide in a death where an autopsy is not done and "natural" death is presumed? Do you contact the family or police or just finish up and allow the funeral to go on?

I solved my second cold case three years ago. The medical examiner had ruled it as an overdose. When the family contacted me, they only asked for my assistance in probate. After taking the information I realized I knew the deceased and would have never thought of him that way. So I asked the family if I could investigate further. He was found face down in a water bed. A photo his son had taken, revealed a handprint on his scull To me it helped to ruled out an overdose. Upon talking to the examiner, after I had legally signed a contract to pursue the death, I learned that the doctor had jumped the gun and ruled the case before the toxicology report was received. The deceased only had.003 trace amount of tramadol in his system at time of death. Sounds fairly easy but it takes a lot of time getting the warrants, writing reports and interviewing witnesses. In the end the medical examiner changed the cause of suicide to homicide, and sending the evidence to the sheriffs office. The family was able to get his life insurance that didn’t pay if it was suicide. His estate added $80,000 from the policy. But the point I am trying to make, is that if someone has been ruled suicide and had never exhibited any signs of that behavior, you may want to get someone to investigate.

@@1234singingismylife rubbish, you can't spell skull correctly???? I call poop ! Estate* AND... Could you please add links to public records on this case please? Surely your detective skills will be a matter of record and a reason for a inquiry into the persons involved in the flawed cause of death certificate? Hmmm!!

Another great vlog - Love how you explain things for the normal lay person. Now I have a question for you that I hope does not come across a morbid. In lieu of the shooting and deaths in Texas, and J.J. Watt stepping up and offering to pay for ALL the funerals I was wondering if there would be a cap on the amount per funeral? I would be afraid of some shady Funeral Directors of pushing the families to purchase the top of the line caskets such at the Solid Coppers and Bronze units that are in excess of $20K. I worked at a firm that paid it's directors bonus's for every copper and bronze that they sold, rather the family could afford it or not. I give tons of praise to J.J. Watt for stepping up AGAIN.

excellent video . you are so multi talented questions: : does the throat remove the entire organ> lik say e you pierce the liver and in a few minutes its gone? have you ever seen anything you you you should call the oops aout while caring for a deceased--like evidence of murder ,etc. In SF we have the medical examiner as coroner, the last administrative coroner was a f a former FD. The ME got in a lot of trouble in the press because he resterilized used needles and reused them on cases--someone objected.. Last but not least: do you know any good fd jokes--you know three FDs walk into a bar...

Hey Kari! I have a friend I’m bringing into the group on Facebook that has her first job in a funeral home! She’s in Florida and they actually have had cases where they have bodies come in that have bed sores etc. after being in a home. One that they took photos and got a lawyer involved. Is this something that happens a lot?
@meaganhiller3029
@meaganhiller3029 6 лет назад
That’s kind of confusing so I’ll elaborate. Do you see a lot of cases of elderly coming in that look like they weren’t well taken care of? Do you tell a family if they may not know?
@meaganhiller3029
@meaganhiller3029 6 лет назад
Kari Northey I’m actually trying to add the friend into the group! I guess the family thought that the patient wasn’t receiving the best care....they took photos for the families lawyer.

According 2 Google "Algor" this is the second stage of death simply meaning coldness when the temperature of the body drops. It's useful for the medical examiner when determining the time of death. I must admit I'm embarrassed commenting because I look like a show off. I know there are three stages. But regardless it's nice these two minutes videos. And Google could very well be wrong. The last stage I'm familiar with without looking it up. Carpe Diem
