This is why physical purchases should be made whenever possible and why digital games/add ons are really just long term rentals. Sure, the content is on your hard drive but when the hard drive quits on you, poof 💨 games are gone. Why they are pulling the ability to even access downloads already paid for is such an unnecessary PR issue.

Did you guys know that Megaman Powered-Up, a PSP exclusive Megaman game from 2006 that was never re-released digitally has an online community stage editor and free DLC characters that are still available online to this day 16 years later. EDIT: it's no longer online anymore as of the end of 2022, but the point still stands.

And to think they are shutting down the servers on Rayman’s anniversary is more insulting to this :/

I'm hoping the modding and hacking scene will already have all this content for all these games backed up somewhere. This is why I hate digital media.

So I recently thought about NBA 2K19 for some reason and how it was supposed to have a pretty good single player story. I went to Amazon and bought a physical copy for that. When it arrived, I popped it in and was greeted with server connection issues. I figured, no big deal, I'm not interested in online play anyway. But when I got to the single player portion I was greeted with a bare bones season simulation where the only thing you could do is pick games from a dull looking calendar. Turned out, the single player part of the game was tied to 2K's digital currency and since the servers were down already they couldn't authenticate what you earned in your playthrough. So the solution was to delete the single player portion outright and replace it with basically nothing. This was the first time I felt cheated out of my money by a videogame. And it's not an old game to begin with. NBA 2K's server uptime is only two years apparently, after which you lose access to everything. So NBA 2K20 is already considered an old game, that's enough time to get your money's worth right? Sigh, what a world we live in. I'll go back to my PS2 games now.

This is upsetting. The Crew 2 is one of my favorite games. It is an online only game. When they release the next installment here in a year or so, they will probably do the same thing. It's frustrating to know that all my progress will just be gone, and I won't be able to play again. Luckily I never spent any money on the games microtransactions.

This is why I have always been against digital gaming. And it's okay to get worked up. There are still a lot of sleeping fools that think these companies are work for us the gamers, and say the stupidest things to defend the anti-consumer practices.

I do think that DLCs should be available on the store front for as long as it is. There are some people that haven’t played these games before. In order for them to buy these games again, 1. They would had to buy the game that is the complete edition will all of the DLCs included in the game. 2. If this game is forwards compatible with the newest hardware with improved FPS and visuals. Back then, games didn’t have DLC like today’s games. These extra features could be unlocked by simply playing the game. The one thing I want to see from Ubisoft is either a remake/remaster of the 1st Rayman or a new Rayman game.

3-year-old game getting pulled? That just screamed "a boomer got in a mood, got off their ass and decided to heavily cut 'expenses' AKA basic game support that costs very little, and then took a whole bunch of credit and huge paycheck in exchange for their work"

I think the reason for this is they want to stop people playing their older titles in the hope that this will push them towards "Upgrading" to newer releases in that franchise. Unfortunately, that doesn't necessarily work. I loved the original Far Cry. The open world layout was an epic game changer in my mind (I don't know if they were the first to do this, but it was definatly the first game I experienced it in). Based on that I bought the second game on the day of release. That one was a bit disappointing with that whole malaria attack and constant gun jamming thing, but that still didn't put me off enough to prevent me buying FC3 when it came out, and game play in this utterly blew me away ! I've fully played through that game at least 5 or 6 times since then, and still get the hankering to go back and do another play through every couple of years (I get the same with half life, opposing force, and blue shift). I got Blood Dragon as well, and while it IS a fun game, it's not really as engrossing as plain old FC3. I also "Own" Far Cry 4 and 5, but after the first play throughs I haven't really felt any urge to play them again like I do with FC3. Ubisoft's decision just to remove content or games that it's customers have paid for leaves a really bitter taste in my mouth. It may be within their customer agreement, but considering you only get to see that AFTER you've paid for the game and begin installing it, this just feels pretty underhanded. Unless they have a change of heart and do something very customer orientated for once (Like offering patches for their "End of life" titles that allow the users to back up their game files, then use them to fully install it from a folder, while only needing a one time online product key validation to run them, and all without having to smell the smoke coming off that dumpster fire called Uplay !) I don't think I'll be willing to give anymore money to Ubisoft to "Rent" their games.

And these are Single Player titles! I was far from done with Rayman Legends. I need that last achievement. I've done tons of research and there appears to be NO OTHER WAY of getting Truly Awesome other than use their dying servers. I'm pissed because ALL OF MY GAMES ARE 100% COMPLETE and this one thing is stopping me. This is an awful March/April to stop so suddenly and without warning no less. I could've tried to get more diamond cups had I known about this. At least 343 gave us a 1 year warning for Halo 3/Reach.

Seems there's at least a notification on the respective Steam store pages and you can't buy the games any longer. Interestingly enough:if you download any of these games ALL DLC is included in the game files already. Servers are only needed for authentication of ownership to unlock the content. You might look into the subject of "DLC Unlocker" ;)

Thank you for this awesome upload, Chi. I've watched several videos already about Ubisoft's move, but yours is the best, it just hit me right where my heart is at and earned you another subscriber. Like you, I too noticed that Ubisoft still have games for sale that will soon be unplayable. One of those that were on sale until last night, is now back on full price! I think it's "Liberation", but I could be wrong". I have to say I stopped purchasing Ubisoft games a couple of years back when I started to find leaks about horrible working conditions for their developers and other employees - but for their female personnel especially, it would soon become clear! I quit purchasing despite being one of the 'Assassin's Creed' franchise fanboys that you mention, especially the earlier AC games were actually innovating and trend forming, and one could feel that the team cared about creating substantial and historically viable story lines for these games. However, the later games are mostly overwhelming graphical showcase attempts that are really horribly broken and story-wise hollow. Well, enough said for now. I mainly want you to know that I care for your channel, and I'm glad I discovered it at this point in time. Keep up the good work!....And be well, live and thrive, as you do so. :)

So basically Ubisoft are making a artificial time limit on how long you can play the video game you bought.

You should see the PS3 trophy community, there's been a craze going back and hunting the online trophies in these games online.

This is modern gaming and this is going to be a common practice going forward. Which is why after the switch generation, I am checking myself out of games.

I'm most annoyed that they have given less than 2 months notice. Alot people won't find out for awhile until it's too late. I found out the other day only because I was told by a random. If they remove access to single player DLC for people who already have bought it, that stinks. Hopefully Sony won't allow them to do that, their policy's are fairly strict for that kind of thing.

Yup because the keep doing online games even in single player and this will cause more of this. They claim to do it for anti piracy but with the market being so split up that is mainly only for PC games anyway. And since emulations aren't current gen it's not like the consoles should be following that logic.

They did the same with AC: Identity. I bought the game while it was on sale then I don't even think it was even a full year later when they shut down the servers

I put like 5 years in ac multiplayer just to hear “can’t play multiplayer just buy ezio collection or ac3 remaster” well guess what they didn’t even BOTHER ADDING IT BACK. Well I’m never buying an Ubisoft game ever again after I finish far cry 6.

Damn I was thinking about hopping into Spies vs Mercs in Splinter Cell Blacklist on PC, but looks like its being shut down. That’s a shame, but if it doesn’t make them money, they don’t care. That’s why its hard to invest into online games because they all have an expiration date.

This is why I have ignored 99% of their games for the past several years. With the watch dogs text hiding making fun of the PC platform as they intentionally kneecapped it for "console parity", I've had no reason to do anything but boycott them.

it has to be known that after ubisoft has failed so game launches in the recent years that they are losing so much money and they are now trying make sure they don't shut down and close all their studios. they are trying to hold it together but not so sure how long it will last

I bought the Ezio Collection for PC so I could make content on it and there is so much shit I can’t do. I bought it before I knew about this on September 28 2022. :( I just want Altaïr Robes and Armor. I have to download mods to do so which sometimes is hard. wtf.

Whats more, the ONLY reason they are doing this is because of their stupid Ubisoft launcher, that has to. HAS TO check to make sure you actually own the item even though its been on your system forever. And because their launcher has to do this, it takes server space. IF they literally just stopped that requirement, this wouldnt be an issue, fuck ubisoft

Just bought abunch of single player games that ubisoft made on xbox and I cant even play them. I thought it was only online but ghost recon doesnt even work when u boot it up because it says the servers dont work.

Looking at the details, it seems like access to playing DLC will only affect PC versions. PS3 and Xbox versions of Assassin's Creed seem safe. This honestly makes me curious if it's somehow related to the drm in the PC versions.

This is why I like normal office software. The company behind the software stop selling a version(Microsoft office as an example) long before extended support has passed. And you can still use the software but you will not receive new content or security updates. Or that the license if lifelong and can be used for all new versions. The same for operating systems. You can still use your Windows XP operating system, but you know of the security risks. Actually most of software that are not for gaming works like this. But gaming software is totally different. The publisher still sells the software long past last content update or security update. Usually within 1 year of last DLC no more patches for bugs. Even removing the option to play online in some cases due to low amount of players. And the game are still be sold for full price. But would this in theory mean that these titles are to be considered abandonware the 2nd of September? Gog is the exception. You can download the actual installation files and keep them for all eternity. Even if the company behind gog goes bankrupt you still have your downloaded installers.

I'm not even surprised at this point, eventually all digital media will be removed and placed on the market for newer consoles for repurchase.

I wanted to buy Assasins Creed Origins and Odyssey because a lot of my friends recomended them to me and they are now on discount on steam...but then i got aware of this and now i am not buying shit because i cannot trust that they won't do the same to this titles eventualy. I will not put my money on an enterprise who is literally scamming it's customers no matter how good the game is. Keep up the good content dude, you are legal.

I bought a collection...it was cheap but still. Didn't have it for a year. Saw it on sale for PS Plus. Was a mild AC fan. Guess this goes for updates too? I'm a bit confused. I know how everyone feels though after Sonic Origins and GTA Trilogy.

I don't want to think about the Ezio collection doing this one day since it treats the entirety of Brotherhood and Revelations as DLC on Switch at least. I already hate the fact that I can't archive or redownload any one of the games individually. The Switch just downloads ALL 20+ GB of the three games automatically. Geniusoft!

Alright you’ve made your decision then I will never buy another Ubisoft game, you’ve stolen content from me to save a buck…I have no confidence you will respect my purchases into the future and therefore find your products an ill advised investment into my own entertainment. I hope you reconsider your foolish decisions as a company but have no confidence in your ability to think of your customers as anything more then pay pigs.
