Faculty from the UCLA History Department posted two letters condemning the leadership for not protecting students in the encampment and how it was dismantled. Tom Wait reports.
Protests aren't protests when you break into buildings and deface property. That history professor has lost track of logic. Besides protestors were given multiple opportunities to leave. So FAFO.
I don't know why these extremists are hired on campuses. Instead of focusing on STEM subjects, this nonsense continues. These institutions need to be closed down and reorganized.
A quick read of the UCLA Code of Conduct says that both the protestors and faculty violated it. But it takes balls to enforce it and all I see are steers.
Okay, but with respect; the prophet Muhammad made it clear that he didn't want anything created to represent him/his image; I understand that he didn't want to draw any attention from God. So, these Muslim, in Gaza, are praising a big rock?.
@@HumanBeingsRThinkingBeings i think we are talking about qatar giving 4 billion to our universities. AIPAC is only scary if you have a hatred of Israel.
@@HumanBeingsRThinkingBeings Where is the apartheid? South Africa? Israel is the most diverse country in the Middle East. They have people from Philippines, India, China, Kenya, Nepal, Brazil and many other countries who live and work there. It is a melting pot.
Why? Is Israel so weak that it can't handle 15,000 infantry? Don't they have enough F-15's F-16's F-35's, 155mm howitzers, Attack Helicopters, Tanks? Is it's 500,000+ person strong army that weak?
They need to close down these cesspools of Marxist and Islamic hate as a matter of national security. The Faculty should be held accountable for their roll in indoctrination vs. teaching and the administration needs to do a better job of hiring teachers and not activists.
@xidada666 you also need to understand that the United States is the poorest country in the world. We need to stop the funding that goes all over the world, trying to solve their problems.
Let's be logical. Students live in dorms and in campus housing. They don't need tent encampments to be in. How many Palestinians are students at each one of these universities? Two, ten? These are paid actors just like at the previous protests. 1968---??? THAT is a BOOMER reference. Specifically, what we already know: Steve Bannon paid Milo Yiannopoulos $1million to start the last campus riots; funded by Breitbart News. Trump paid actors to fake a union meeting with American Auto Industry workers; when they had already publicly endorced Biden. He is now recruiting 100,000 paid actors to cause violence on election day.
so tell me then how was this supposed to be handled? Theres countless videos of the violence that took place BEFORE police arrived. Police arrived to disperse the protesters and at this point rioters, they gave them ample opportunities to leave and even still a lot stayed. So then they moved in and cleared the area.
Do you not consider that there are tactics employed by those in power and the security establishment, to delegitimize any protests and acts it does not like? Don't think for one nano-second some of this "violence" is not instigated by people planted their by the very "authorities". Read US history. It is nothing new!
The UCLA administration let it get out of hand. By the time they realized their error, the protestors had already built a mini-city in front of Royce hall. My son is accepted to UCLA for the fall, ironically in History, but he’s having second thoughts now about going to a school with far left ideology, so he’s probably going to Cal Poly Pomona now for mechanical engineering.
The priority should be the security of the students who are seriously trying to get their education and paid for it The professors should be held accountable for inciting these protests and ignoring the interests of the students who paid to get an education in a safe environment Lawsuits against the schools for allowing disorder, danger, and chaos.
@@linusa2996faculty are still required to enforce campus policy and report things. So why no disciplinary action here? Because of a bad “rate my teacher online” rating that could have them loose thier job and be unable to get another ? I’m sure destroying campus property and non student involvement in campus affairs is probably covered and are beyond free speech. I would hope the faculty would at least respect thier job enough to see why the handbook should probably be followed.
Students need to sue these colleges and administrators who allowed danger onto the campuses, as well a tuition refunds. ********************************************************
There must be thousands of Asian parents with high school seniors who watched the admin cater to every whim of the useful id iots, and are now saying "Yeahhhh, sorry kid, change of plans, choose another UC campus or another school, because we're not paying for that circus." Even if their SIRs were already sent in, a lot parents are still going to say no way.
College admissions officers and their professors at UC want to limit Asian populations. That's why they are not accepting SAT scores. If they want the students to learn in a peaceful environment, there are no other safe UC schools. Universities in Florida are the only safe ones now.
@@paulstallings1177 Let's see ... harassing Jewish students and preventing them from moving around campus - CHECK! Vandalizing and occupying university buildings for no reason - CHECK! Disrupting finals week for tens of thousands of students - CHECK! Disrupting commencement - CHECK! Looks like you pro-Hamas zombies fit the bill as terrorists.
James Gelvin is a groomer. Those weren't all students and they broke the law, attacked police and vandalized school property. Arrest the perpetrators of these crimes.
Outrage by faculty claiming that (people breaking the law for activist ideals) criminals need to be protected from the police (aiding and abetting). These are the ones you PAY to teach your kids. Outraged that the school did not commit crime to protect criminals. Fire them and hire professors that know what a thought process is.
Actually the UCLA admin is probably going to get sued (and lose) by the student protesters, for allowing Zionist counter-protesters to violently assault the university's students while they sat by and watched on Wednesday; only then to use the excuse of "violence" as a pretense to use riot police to force the student protester to vacate the quad on Thursday, thus trampling all over the student's 1st Amendment rights to peaceful assembly.
That's like saying the old wise elders of a society are subverting the next generation. These are literally one of the few groups of people we SHOULD listen to. Indoctrination, gimme a break, it's called education. This isn't a social science or gender studies professor, he's a damn History professor.
Who are the cowards? The Cops? Because the students are quite aware that the conditions in Gaza are unlivable. Would you care to elaborate on the incredibly dumb point you were trying to make?
They should discipline all students involved in this protest that broke the law or refused to leave once the encampment was deemed unlawful. We must teach our youth that decisions have consequences. Shame on the UCLA professors that are supporting this bad behavior.
They can resign if they don’t like how the police and school handled this. We don’t need the liberal professors. Many of the people there were not even students. Understand that people are concerned for Gaza. They should be more concerned with what is happening here in the USA. There of free speech and then there is violence. A lot of violence to place there at my Alma Mater. It was an embarrassment.
everyone has right to free speech in America, but they have no right to intimidate Jewish student in the US for their beliefs. If protestors have a problem with Israeli military actions, they should book a flight to Israel to protest, that takes real courage. If they don't like actions the universities are taking, they are free to protest in peace without causing disturbances.
Defund Higher Indoctrination. We need STEM and vocational specialists more than we need more "journalists" and "political science" and "history" and other Fuzzy Studies majors anyway.
It's insane how you nonchalantly lumped History among those other subjects. Have you ever taken a college history class? This is coming from a stem major, every American should take US and foreign history. The amount of ignorance in these comments... History must be taught, the lessons are there to learn from
@@AbernathyDonovanDunlap I majored in German, minored in Math and went on to the MS in CSc. I did Liberal Arts too. But the leftists took over History and Journalism German and everything else you can't express rigorously in symbols. End the government money, let's see if they stand on their own.
If you don't know history you don't know when not to repeat it. But then the only history you want taught is probably the one in the bible and the one you approve off. And that makes you no different from the Mullah's, the Taliban or Vladimir Putin
I agree. Studying history and political sciences only serves to propagate hatred and intolerance. What happened can not be unhappened. Focus on moving forward with logic, reasonableness, forgiveness, and kindness. A good start is to please don't be condescending in one's comments as it is not conducive to civil discussions.
seems like ur the stupid one, even those who dont like the protests happening at least know that the US provides all the military, financial and political coverfor israel, not to mention protecting them from the ICC and the ICJ. america is whats keeping israel going.with your tax money
People like you can never influence people. Zero understanding of global affairs. Zero understanding of how your president, the administaration and the police are only going to accelerate the decline of the US.
You people keep repeating this lie, there is zero proof to this assertion. It's just a BS false talking point that has been repeated ad nauseam. Provide proof or STFU.
How many classes are taught in the quad? Other students having to walk a few dozen yards extra to go around the protest is hardly a provocation that should warrant the suspension of the protester's right to peaceful assembly as guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States. Or do you not value the rights of others whom you happen to disagree with?
Those students who chosen to protest knew that their protection is voided. The should have not encamped. Does who did nit join yes! You should have protected them.
Losing sight of the issue? The issue is that they are students and they aren't changing anything in the ME with their antics. Were talking about the same group that thinks petitions will effect change in another country.
He is not a historian. Were there agitators in the encampment? Were there professionals? Were there outside sources paying for the plywood? These campuses always had hate week. Who made this inorganic event? A true historian would want to know. A true journalist would have asked him.
What a terrible decision from administration and authorities to carry that out instead of acknowledging the humanitarian crisis, if not the potentially unfolding genocide, and divesting.
@@Method9most of protestors are not well informed about the conflict.the same pro palestinien protests in the seventies destroyed lebanon.calm down.many don't want the conflict to be solved.they are making money out of it.
@@willbusn5683 I wouldn't say that the American public is making money out of it. But yes I hear you about the military industrial complex and its influence. In my personal opinion, we're selling little pieces of our souls, if such a thing exists, while they break so many commandments with the tools we gave them.
Look "Genius" by attacking these protestors, it now spreading like wildfire across the world. You made the student journalist at Colombia University famous around world for their reporting on police brutality on Colombia's campus. Stop attacking protestors.
New York Times review of police records and interviews with dozens of people involved in the protest at Columbia found that a small handful of the nearly three dozen arrestees who lacked ties to the university had also participated in other protests around the country. One man who was taken into custody inside Hamilton Hall, the occupied campus building, had been charged with rioting and wearing a disguise to evade the police during a demonstration in California nearly a decade earlier. But the examination also revealed that far more of the unaffiliated protesters had no such histories. Rather, they said, they arrived at Columbia in response to word of mouth or social media posts to join the demonstration out of some combination of solidarity and curiosity.
No need for encampment , go down to public streets and put an official request to the mayor for peaceful demonstration and protection from the other side intruders and let us see how the mayor will respond. Let us see if the 1st Amendment and human rights are something real!
What makes America the beautiful is that we all have the privilege and the right to freedom of speech. Freedom is the right that we are all born with. We are all free to be and act free as long as during the process, we don't hurt anyone. Respecting the essence of human dignity in order for all to get along is paramount. Seek peace and always be free!
@willbusn5683 If you happened to be part of 1000 protesters, things can get out of control quickly. During the Rodney King riots, trucker Reginal Denny's skull and face was damaged with a heavy rock by one of the violent protesters. Additionally, a Latino man was grabbed and had paint from a gallon poured into his throat. He had nothing to do with root cause. Obviously, the root cause was police brutality. This is when the Rampart police bunch were abusing the law and people's civil rights. The root cause of the riots happened to be thousands of miles from America. But genocidal intent from either side is wrong. Your thinking is right on the money. But try telling that to thousands of individuals.
So much diversity hiring going on in big blue city news channels. Pathetic. Same with their city, county, state police and sheriff depts. You think we don't notice?? FFS.
Lol. They were told to leave by a certain time. They stayed, vandalized and fought the law. Ya gotta have rocks for brains to have stayed to get arrested.
@@paulstallings1177so if this country is so bad, why aren't you leaving?? If Islam is wonderful, just join. Oh Wait! You can't do this crap in those countries. Free speech doesn't include blocking others ability for movement, violence, intimidation, and destroying property 😂 but I see that you believe in borders and border patrol vetting entrance
History absolutely has credibility in many things; Professional Historians are supposed to be trained in research and relaying said research in an unbias manner to others so that they may form their own opinions. The problem is them not hiring actual professional historians if they take sides in active events.
Your attitude is just a symptom of ST3M indoctrination. One day all your robots will replace you too and you will have no way to pay the financial aid bill. “You will own nothing and you will be happy” That’s right, YT sensors negative opinions on ST3M education, an unbalanced approach to learning. The writing’s on the wall. Sorry we don’t need to write anymore, I forgot we live in 1984 now thanks to ST3M -“do the math”
The responsibility of faculty are to prepare themselves to teach without bias. It’s NOT to allow lawlessness or antisemitism. We have decided that we are going to ensure all students feel a sense of safety. Btw it’s comical that some faculty state that they want a chancellor committed to free speech. Does that include when I say that there are only two genders and they correspond to your genome?
“Jewish students were incredibly intimidated” says Bruins for Israel VP. Her gall! How does she think Gazan students, whose universities and schools, hospitals and homes, have been flattened by Israel, feel? How do the Gazans who’ve been displaced and lost dozens of family members feel? And excuse me, but “feeling” intimidated doesn’t trump the freedom of speech.
So is bullying Jews in another country with freedom of speech, at college universities, solving the problem? Everyone there is supposed to be equal as studying academics. The anger seems displaced to me. Gazans probably realized before they enrolled that they would have Jewish classmates at an American university. In enrolling in the university, they agreed to that. -they AGREED to respect their peers to be there. This is a matter of self discipline and personal responsibility in exercising emotions. As a student your job is not to start a secondary war between civilian cultural groups, it is to study. I for one am grieved to see the destruction to Gaza and for everyone living there that could not leave but spreading hate of Jews is not the solution.
There are proper and civil ways to exercise Free Speech. If I have a disagreement with UCLA, I have no right to set up an encampment on campus. All have learned there are rules to be followed and respected.

Wait, I'm sorry, you kind of played down the hours long assualt on students by pro israeli protestors and how the school used that as pretext to have police march into the encampment using more violance than any of the protestors. That's what's in the letter you edited around. There are dozens of videos, student journalists, faculty, and the LA Times all on the same page. Had this been in reverse... had pro palistinian protestors attacked counter protestors with fireworks and sticks and sent 12 to the hospital.... Also, all those pro palistinian protestors arrested and not one pro israeli counter protestor has been charged. I feel like that's an important story, and I doubt the audiance even understood what has actually happened there. This story is unfotunate because there is plenty of media out there showing exactly what happened, no soeculation needed. Someday, they will investigate this whole crap show and I hope history holds these people to account. Not like we hold anything against Bernie and Samuel L Jackson, and they took hostages. If these kids did, they would be called hamas and probably drone bombed. Sick world.
Both the network and cable "news" coverage of these protests have been overwhelmingly biased against the students, bordering on journalistic malpractice.
Divestment was just an excuse to bring out the megaphones and make a lot of noise. So-called "activists" will always find some excuse to make a nuisance of themselves. These tent encampments are ultimately social events for the granola eaters among us.
Every time there’s a claim of “antisemitism” you really need to elaborate because that word has lost all meaning… Also the ADL is a joke, you probably shouldn’t promote them if you want anyone to take your coverage seriously.
