Team Honnas is back! Mental toughness and positive thinking in general have played a huge role in my life, and continue to do so. I remember the mental, emotional, and physical pain that IBD causes very well, and the desire to just give up after so many failed attempts to improve my health. I'm glad I didn't and I want to encourage you to continue taking steps to improve your health. This video is from Module 1 of our new Biome Optima™ online course that includes a 5 week sample meal plan. The majority of the information in the course can be found on the channel for free, the course is just nice and condensed and gives way more recipe ideas than what's featured in the boot camp series.

This is exactly what the IBD community needs. Even if the physical scars heal, the mental scars always take longer. I'm much more in control of my IBD these days, but I feel I have PTSD from experiencing the unbelievable pain of Colitis over the past few years. You're a serious leader and inspiration. Thank you.

The subscribers have a forum where they discuss symptoms, progress, and motivation. Such a powerful video in 5 minutes mate, you're absolutely spot on - many people approach IBD thinking that it's something that's part of them, something they have to overcome, something they have to heal from - they view this condition as very black and white; either you're well and can eat anything you want, or you suffer and find life very limiting. I remember reading a book on Buddhism that my brother introduced me to years ago and after that my outlook changed entirely towards IBD and other chronic illnesses. It emphasised 'being present in the moment' - it sounds simple, but when we evaluate our lives, how much do we love to rue all those missed opportunities, reminisce about our previous healthy self, feel envious of what those around us are able to achieve and express how bleak the future is likely to be? I've found that being self-critical is one of the biggest obstacles to overcome while living with IBD, but once you change from a 'I desperately need to heal at all costs and I just need someone to give me the answers right now' mindset, to 'I hope to re-condition my body gradually, and as long as I'm putting in the effort, I'm not going to beat myself up about it' mindset, you begin feeling proud of what you've endured up to this point and you start to recognise that setting timescales and having expectations over the direction the condition takes is ultimately just another burden you put on yourself; another barrier that keeps you in a mental prison. If your videos show anything Kenny, it's that you appreciate the complexity of the issues that this community of people are facing, and even with the struggles in mind, there's nothing stopping us from adopting a mindset that strives for better health. While many believe that freedom from IBD is an end goal, you acknowledge that health is a continuum and because of this, we shouldn't stress so much over 'resolving' something that's ultimately ongoing. I enjoy your food-related videos, but I must admit, your motivation and mentality ones are top notch and something that's desperately needed within this community!

I got diagnosed in January and still struggling to get it under control. I just got out of the hospital after spending 10 days in there and losing 22 pounds in 2 weeks prior. I went from being ripped and vascular to looking flat and lifeless. I’m glad I found your channel. I hope to get things under control. Right now I’m on mesalamine (4 pills a day) and beudeconide (3 pills a day) and I take Tylenol to help ease the pain Bc I feel like the other medicines aren’t even helping. I still go 15-18 times a day right now. I’m supposed to start humira in the next week or two. I don’t want to be on medication my whole life. However I feel like I need the help right now. I know with time and proper diet I’ll get under control and slowly get off the medications. Thanks for your videos Kenny. Glad to see you’re back. Also glad to be part of this UC community

Ate very little only fruits and boiled chicken. But slowly in months things started improving and by end of 2020 i was in complete remission and healed for good. Now i only avoid oily stuff and anything made of wheat. I kept praying to God. Iam thankful He saved me. I also thank you jonas for ur old videos. Love from pakistan. This ain't easy but thank you because i never thought people could get healed and the doctors brain wash us thinking medication is the only answer. my doctor gave my 4 mesalamine a day & humira shots, Im off the humira doing better with the diet! i dont rely on the mesalaine that much but not completely healed, thank you Kenny!

Great video Kenny! It is definitely a huge mental battle to overcome Colitis and Crohn's. Im really really curious how your faith played a role in all of this because right now Im finding that guidance from scripture is super powerful tools for dealing with the stress of gut issues in a healthily manner.
@team_honnas
@team_honnas 3 года назад
Thank you! And that’s awesome to hear, Mike. In regards to my faith, as a believer, I think it played a huge role. I had a very pivotal interaction with a fellow believer that really sparked a confidence that God was going to answer my prayers and allow my body to heal. At that time my mind and heart believed I was going to get healthy. And then there was this domino effect that seemed to happen as I began learning about the gut microbiome and I began to gain a small, rudimentary understanding- just mere glimpses- of how I think God designed the human body to function. And then my health began to improve. I really feel as if God dumped all of the information I needed to get healthy right into my lap and all I had to do was put it into practice. I’m very grateful that the path I’m currently on was part of His will for my life, however, I make no pretense to know how or why He chooses to heal or not heal people. I’m still wrestling and trying to wrap my mind around my own beliefs about this topic. Something that does make sense to me though is the idea that God is sovereign and that there are going to be things we don’t understand because His ways and thoughts are different and higher than ours. Isaiah 55:8-9 says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” This idea actually gives me quite a bit of peace because as a Christian I believe that while God may have a radically different plan for my life than I do, I can trust that His ways, thoughts, and thus His purpose, is higher than my own. Another piece of scripture that brings me peace is Philippians 4:4-7 which says, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” I find the last verse especially helpful and often pray that God will give me His peace that transcends all understanding.

I was feeling pretty low today; thanks Kenny needed to hear this. I have been watching all your videos: I have UC too and in a flare up- my specialist GI never told me any of the stuff you told me. I had no real ide what ulcerative colitis really was- I had a hard time understanding. I am back on Prednisone for 9 weeks to calm things down along with Mezavant 1.2g ( 3tabs) and now he added another drug called Azathiopine 50mg Starting at 1 tab for a week, then 2 for a week then 3 for 6 weeks along with weekly bloodwork to check for anemia. I had no idea about my Vitamin D or B12 as you mentioned; was never told to take supplements or vitamins or pro biotics as you talks about. This Dr. Is supposed to be the specialist and it is so discouraging; I guess this is why is searched online for answers because I don’t want to live this way. I know diet change is so true and when I would ask the dr. How change I change my diet he just would smirk and say diet doesn’t really matter. I thank God for finding your videos. I just bought a juicer and now I have to buy the organic cabbage and the probiotics and start drinking the cabbage juice with high hope and belief my ulcers will heal.

My next endoscopy in couple months, hope everything is good… Just little worried about it…

I started with symptoms of UC and it progressed pretty badly into 20 bowel movements a day. I just started drinking grapefruit and it actually went away. Awful thing to have. Thanks for these videos man, it actually gave me the initial motivation when I had UC to take control of my body and glad I did.

@@recepie-house so what I did was not eat anything and only drink grapefruit juice for 2 days. Make sure it’s a real grapefruit you are drinking and get as little pulp as possible. After that eat UNRIPE banana + grapefruit juice. UNRIPE banana is when banana is still green.at this stage you will 99% have solid stool. 1-2 days is enough. Then you can follow his diet or eat simple foods like eggs and beef. I used to crap blood as well and this completely cured it.

Im still waiting for a colonoscopy since the end of last year and wont get it until September so nurses can go make dance videos in hospitals. IN the mean time in pain just left to flap in the breeze with pain. glad someone told me about intermittent fasting,(none of the do nothing doctors did though thats for sure) but that only helps so much and is a right pain in the ass to consume your food in a 6hour period each day. 2 teaspoons of MCT oil after meals also seems to help.

Kenny I have a question… Have you ever have a flare up after you healed ulcerative colitis?still can you able to eat your favourite foods…
@mike0133
@mike0133 3 года назад
In my opinion thinking about future and about being able to tolerate your favorite foods is a great way of thinking but don't focus only on foods, think even about all the good things you will return to do with people you love. Stopping thinking about your favorite foods and stick on foods that make you feel good, the lifestyle is important, foods is only one of the way to enjoy the life with the people you love.
@team_honnas
@team_honnas 3 года назад
I've had random episodes of diarrhea (like anyone will have from time to time) that have made me nervous, but nothing I would consider a flare. Anytime my bowels do anything abnormal I get nervous about it and have to control my thinking. And yes, I'm still in clinical remission and am able to eat my favorite foods. My next video that will hopefully be posted in the next few days will discuss the 80-20 rule, which is what I follow, and it describes how I balance dietary discipline and dietary freedom. Hopefully that helps!

@@team_honnas thank you so much for your reply…I have searched in you tube for a person with complete reversal of IBD that who can eat all favourite food… I saw only you and heal the gut guy have achieved it… But now you people are also saying that only through food we cannot conquer IBD… ie stress is a factor… I wonder how can we control stress that is coming from our mind… we cannot control it … it’s like a reflex action of certain situation… if we tell our mind don’t be stress also it will happen in back ground… I have Crohn’s disease and I am a stress full person… still you have small episodes of diarrhoea and how can you judge its not a part of your IBD.. have you done a colonoscopy recently and confirmed it. Hope you are not taking any medicine….slightly I lost the hope of complete reversal of IBD… looks like a curse of entire life…Also please add the stories of people who achieved complete reversal of IBD if you know anyone…it will give confidence for people like me

crying atm, because i'm tired of having this, i've gained a lot of weight despite not eating any junk and eating moderate, i've tried carnivore so far n it gave me inflammation n joint pain all the time, now i'm trying fermented foods and adding little bit of cooked greens, bt still no change, i workout every day n also added yoga and meditation to my daily routine. i want to know when was the time u started seeing some changes in your health, how long should i stick to one diet in order to see wether it's good for me or i need to change it?

I think if some diet is good, you see it instantly. But I’ve been around the UC scene since 2012, by what I’ve seen, you can’t fix a flare-up with a diet. I’d go to a doctor and get a high enough dosage of prednisolon. By diet it’s best to aim for ”ancestor foods” which have no ingredients. But don’t ever go vegan.

@Jims H maybe a good supplements could be: vitamin D+K2(very important for rebuild gut and even for testosterone), Omega 3 and digestive enzymes. If you want add vitamin C. P. S.: I don't think focusing on testosterone is the best way to overcome an UC. First repair the gut, you will notice even that your testosterone is going to get better.

Hi Kenny! I was wondering if I could start reshaping my gut microbiome using what you've mentioned in your videos while still on a medication? Going through a flare-up and currently on lialda. Obviously the only thing I would change would be my diet by implementing what helped you heal, but it left me wondering if healing is still possible while on maintenance meds. What do you think?
@team_honnas
@team_honnas 3 года назад
While I'm definitely not a doctor and this should not be taken as medical advice, from what I've read and understand, the answer to your question in regards to reshaping the gut microbiome while still on medication is yes. I've read more than a few clinical studies where IBD patients saw positive results with probiotic therapy in combination with anti-inflammatory medications. I'd double check with your doctor to make sure I'm not missing anything, but again, from my understanding, the general answer to your question is yes. Hope that helps!
