Hi. Thank you for your videos. I've been using Loco Translate for month, but still can't find how to translate some of the phrases. For example images lightbox and sign "Close" or js tabs selection and sign "All". Is it possible via Loco Translate or there are some other options to do so?

I think that Glot comes from the word polyglot which means speaking several languages. Great tutorials :)

Thank you for this amazing video. I have one question, I'm using LearnDash and the Social Learner theme (I purchased both after watching your AMAZING video, and of course I used the links on your website as referral) and now I'm wondering if I can translate the theme buttons and pre-defined text when users switch from one language to another from the front-end. I'm using Polygram and so far the only translation I can control is the content of the website and the menus, but I'm not sure how to change the predefined text that comes with the Social Learner theme, for example the button "Take this course" or the tags on the cover of the courses "Completed", "Enrolled", "Free", etc... would you advise?

No you can use the plugins talked about to create your own translation. However I would think that very outdated plugins and themes, from years ago, may not work. I am not positive on this though, but you wouldn't want to run outdated code like that anyway.

This would depend on if your theme gives you the option to add a widget to the above header and location.

That's a good question, I would contact the team over at WPML to see how best to handle that. To see if you need direct integration or if you are going to need to create a separate slider that is already been translated.

Thanks for the video Adam. So basically what I got from this is that if we use the Polylang plugin, the plugin itself is not actively doing any translations at all. It is simply a “switch” of sorts that takes you from one page to another. We still need to create the pages, etc. from scratch in each language. Am I on the right track or did I miss something?

Hey, you do great tutorial. Thank you very much. May I ask few questions: 1. If I am fine with the back-end in English, but I need the front-end in another language, is it OK to keep the back-end in English? 2. If I keep the back-end in English, while the front end is on another language, will some areas (which you said affect the the front-end) show up for the users in English? 3. If I use Polylang or WPML, do I need to use Loco at all or Polylang and WPML provide the back-end translation, too? Thank you!

The front-end and the backend language settings can be completely. different and though be no problem with that.

Well it typically boils down unfortunately to money. WPML is kind of expensive in my opinion. However it probably does the best job and they have been further developing it lately to work with all the various page builders.

glot comes from the ancient greek word "γλώττα" (glota), in modern greek "γλώσσα" (glosa), that means tongue and language

Great video! Thanks! I have a problem I can't find the solution to, I want the back end in English and front end in another language (ES). My pages is only Spanish and if I change WP language to Spanish it works ok, However then I get the back end in Spanish as well, and I would prefer to keep it in English but then I get some parts of the plug ins like LifterLMS front end in English... Anyone knows how to solve this?? I could maybe do it with Polylang but it seems a overkill as I don't wanna have to create two versions of every page. Thanks!

Great video with good explanation. One quick question I have created like you did one page on another language which is linked with the English page. Thanks for the excellent video! I was wondering if there's a way to prevent Beaver Builder from automatically changing to the language of the front end of the page. In other words, my default language is English, but whenever I add a page in another language through Polylang, Beaver Builder automatically translates to the respective language. This in itself is not a major problem, but for some reason, the Hebrew version of Beaver Builder has a bug and doesn't allow full width pages.

However I have 2 quick questions: 1) would it be better to have a new language for your website created in a subdomain, for example "www.es.mydomain.com"? or as you say using a plugin so that the website ends up bein "www.mydomain.com/es/? 2) I tried using polylang plugin but the language option (flags) seems to not be appearing in the new compressed menu when I view my website in tablet or phone.. Thank you so much, this is a very simple explanation and so handy! But I'm experiencing a problem with the Polylang plugin. I'd like to ask for your opinion, what could be done to fix that. When I activate the plugin, the website visitor can't visit the site, because they see an error which says that there are too many redirects. This happens only with this plugin, any ideas how to resolve that?

This is very strange, I haven't heard of this problem before. You can contact the support for the plug-in and asked them, I'm sure someone would have experienced the same thing and would know how to resolve it.

Thank you for replying, but, unless I install the plugin and purchase their Pro subscription, they won't let me contact them. Problem is, that if I install the plugin, it will crash my website, and I can't wait for them to resolve this. Only option is the community forum, where I couldn't find a solution.

Hello, I am using Polylang to make my website bilingual and everything is working fine but I am having issues when I publish posts. After publishing my posts both the English and the Spanish posts will appear on my "blog" section in my English menu even though I have a Spanish translation for that Page... When I go to my Spanish menu and then check on my Blog section, both the English and the Spanish content appears there... Any Idea what am I doing wrong that is making my posts not organize in their determined language menus?

Hi, i'm currently working on a client's website with a previously installed WPML plugin. However the subscription had already expired when I got my hands on the site, and the plugin won't update anymore unless I renew it. I'd like to switch to the free Polylang not to charge extra money to my client, but I have a few doubts about it: 1)is there a way with Polylang to automatically clone a page template when I create a new translation, or do I have to manually copy the template? 2)Do the changes made on a page template reflect on the translated version of that page, or I have to copy everything manually? With WPML this process is automated, is it the same with Polylang?

I would suggest testing it out. But I don't think it duplicates the page for you, which would be nice.

WPCrafter.com WordPress For Non-Techies Hi. I found a nice plugin named WPML to Polylang which automatically transfers all wpml settings to polylang. It just needed some additional adjustments after the transition but i worked pretty good. Otherwise there's another plugin named Duplicate Post which can be used to clone pages, so you can clone a page and then assign it as its clone translation.

Hi Adam, perfect video, was able to fallow and set up my homepage with polylang! But at 31:34min .... I do not have this Language switcher! I did every thing like you said (but with 4languages) but I definitely don't find that Language switcher. Can you imagine how that could be?

That's very strange that you wouldn't have it. I wonder if there something in your WordPress theme that is preventing from that option to be added. What you can do is activate a different theme, see and then see if it's there. If it is you know it's a problem with your theme.

Hello Adam, I appreciate this video all thought I am aware of Polylang but wasn't aware of other plugins available. I think you should do another video more in depth using Polylang. I'm currently building a multi language authority site using a simple free theme and Polylang. But I am having issues with not having all the categories, tags, plugins features etc.. translated as well. Is this still possible with the Free version of Polylang. I also know SEO features doesn't come with the free version, but is there a free alternative method or a plugin to be able to SEO optimize my site in both languages? I am also using Yoast SEO. My website is English and Spanish, I am fluently in both.

I don't see why Polylang doesn't have SEO features since each page is independent and can have their own separate SEO settings. I think you should also be pairing it with Loco Translate to get translations for those "strings" like categories, etc.

Maybe you should reset your personal links? Just go to settings then permanent links and click the save button. Other than that you can contact their support.

glot comes from the word polyglot: "knowing or using several languages."

Sorry to be pedantic but 'glot' does not 'come from' polyglot. '-glot' is a combining form with the meanings “having a tongue,” “speaking, writing, or written in a language” of the kind or number specified by the initial element. The 'number' poly (the initial element), simply means much or many. Ultimately it comes from Greek -glottos -tongued, adj. derivative of glôtta tongue. If someone speaks/writes two languages they would be bilingual. Three languages - trilingual. Four or more - multilingual, plurilingual or polyglot. But none of this is set in stone so this reply is not important. I just wanted to let you know that I speak English, Russian, German, Italian, Spanish, and am learning Romanian and Turkish. It's a sad life, but somebody has to do it :))) (Adam will kill me for writing this!!)

It should be compatible with the Astra Theme. I would encourage you to send a ticket into Astra just to make sure. Also you can ask in the Astra Facebook group.

Great video, thanks for your work. Dear, i have this issue and can't fix it, tried everything, at least i don't know enough in wordpress to fix it. The issue is that my theme has options and these options are inserted by admin, i mean you have to introduce the text you want to show it in the front, so these options Polylang doesn't give me the option to translate. So i googled and found out that i have to use wpm-config.xml file. Great, now i know this is the solution, but here we go again i don't know what to code inside it and where to put this file, i mean in database. So please please please, if you have an idea, please could you help with it? Appreciate your help.

i installed polylang. my website got displaced and the content went to the left (including images gone behind the left side of the screen and became hidden). is there any solution for that? thanks

Loco translate is not for language switching where people have the option of using one language or another language. What you are asking for is a multilingual feature.

Hello Adam, could you help me fix a little problem I have with Polylang please ? My problem is the following one : I can switch between languages without any problem (page changes, flag changes). However, when I enter another page it will go back to default, which in my case is English. How do I prevent this from happening? Thank you!
