I have Audio Research with a Ref 75 in for service now so I need one of these! I am just getting so mesmerized with the McIntosh look and led start up sequence, dealer told me minimum two months wait 😩 so I have been now also looking used but it’s time to try McIntosh for me, really enjoy your channel and content guys!👍

I like the look of the amp but I also find the green lights of the front row of tubes ruins the magic orange glow of the power tubes for me... Unfortunately.

Funny. Mine came tripple packed and the amp itself was in a white cotton bag (still wrapped in plastic below that). Also I got a shunyata power cord in addition to the stock one. I got mine from a dealer in Germany.

They're beginning to include the white cotton bag. A better power cord definitely is a must!

I have two of them as monoblocks (bridged). It sounds amazing, and I don't look for any other amp anymore.

not really supposed to turn on a tube amp if the speakers aren't hooked up I was told years ago by mac owner

That's correct. Most tube amps expect to see a load (speaker connected). This mc is probably fine with all the protection circuitry it has.

I’ve heard the “don’t touch tubes/bulbs with your fingers” argument my whole life. Seems like some believe this religiously but I’ve never heard of one exploding due to finger oils. I would be inclined to use cotton gloves but only to prevent seeing fingerprints on the glass. OTOH, one could always use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to wipe the glass clean instead of searching for cotton gloves.

It’s not necessarily exploding (that would be rare) it’s about tube longevity. Skin oil will heat up above the normal temperature of clean glass, thereby decreasing the life of the tube.

@@PanAmStyle Yes - the oils can change or increase temperature on the glass bottle. In the past, I've always wiped down the tubes after handling them.

The natural oils on your hands will cling to the tube. The part of the glass that has the olils on it will head up to a higher temperature than the part that you didn't touch. This uneveness will affect the life of the tube in an adverse manner.

I have a pair in monoblocks and they are simply amazing. Though I have to say they are a bitch to move because all of that weight is on one side and they want to flip!

I'd genuinely like to hear more, I'm interested in an upgrade from my 50 wpc kt88 amp. Been thinking about building my own from a kit that vta supplies. Have you compared your monos to the bigger amps from McIntosh? Do they sound different in mono than stereo?

@@jamesrobinson9176 I considered getting the mc452/462 amp but ended up grabbing the mc275 because the tube sounded amazing. It drove some Klipsch heritage speakers and focals just fine, but the “75wpc” wasn’t enough for B&W and later on the Sonus faber speakers I got. Decided to grab a second 275 to see if it would help with dynamics and I was blown away how great it sounds.

Since they’re a diagnostic indicator, I wouldn’t want to do that at all.

@@PanAmStyle I find the color quite ugly and the idea gimmicky. Reminds me of the purple, orange, etc. lights people put under their import cars. As for diagnostic purposes they could flash green then turn off and light up red if a problem occurs.

No - not on this amp. You can on some of the other McIntosh Tube amps. And you either like the green or not. It will still sound great.

you can use a stereo plug partially inserted in the power control jack to turn off the light show. They still light up as normal on startup IIRC. I use two MC 275s in mono.

Anyone out there running this amp as a mono with a twin? 75 watts isn't enough but, 150 is

@@vilipmak3973 thanks vilip🙂 budget is my main factor in this. What I'm trying to learn is whether the 275 changes sonically when bridged, some amps sound vastly different bridged, some don't

@@jamesrobinson9176 Bridging MC275 definitely improves the amp. If budget is your concerned, the MC1502 outperforms bridged MC275s.

Unboxing videos are "bush league" and not worthy of channel like this. It should be part of a review, or at least a full demo of all the controls.

@@PanAmStyle I didn't say that the title was misleading. I said that "unboxing" videos are bush league and not worthy of a reputable RU-vid channel. I don't mind if they included the unboxing with some additional content, at least a review of the specs and the controls.

@@mark9118 We've already reviewd the MC275 earlier. Don't be so lazy, actually look through our previous reviews. And if you think the unboxing videos do not deserve your attention, don't watch them. We have other content.
