What an immaculate set. Ending up dloing a full 4W output (was 3.1W) & much more semsitive receive than normally achieved with this chassis (around 0,5uV on this one)
It's vital to change the two 470uF & two 220uF capacitors whenever these sets come in for service. Those capacitors started failing wholesale around 15 years ago now & the 220uF once can take out the irreplaceble TC9119 PLL chip & the failure of the 470uF ones can kill the MB3712 audio IC which can be very expensive.

Whilst it's always uplifting to see the everyday 'daily driver' radios maintained for use, the occasional timewarp classic such as this is always such a treat to watch at as they go through the system. You can almost put yourself in the shoes of the excited new CB user back in 1981 or thereabouts eagerly extracting the shiny new wonder of the age from its box prior to getting on air.. 😁

What a fine looking radio. Very similar but with more controls to my first CB which was a President AR 14 AM set I bought new back in the day.

Sweet looking radio love unadin the most but sibernet are my second favorite I know there different here in the USA it all ways a treat see the difference of whut ya'll have over the pond great video As always

Despite the apparent sensitivity 'issue' I find these to work superbly.

Like all products they differ from sample to sample. This particular set was far more sensitive than most I see; perhaps yours is the same. Furthermore, the noise floor in actual use is such that a radio needs to be working at luV or greater to start noticing a difference. In other words, whilst it's great having a sensitivity of 0.2uV on laboratory instruments, it's unlikely to give greater range. Now on UHF with it's quieter noise floor, it would make a noticeable difference. Richard, G0OJF, UK

So why is the Uniden chassis hard on capacitors ?

Not the best make of capacitor used at the time. That sais they were 25 years old before playing up. In contrast Maxon & Cybernet sets I end up changing one capacitor is a set about every 20 sets. With Great, it's more like 1 in every 50 sets. Much of the time they need replacing because of been connected to power above 16V. The difference is that they leak the gunk when that happens rather than just go leaky electrically like the Unidens do. Richard, G0OJF, UK

It's not, they're just low quality parts, I've replaced shorted caps in all sorts of Uniden radios, all sorts of values, that said they do have some design faults on some of the radios, they screwed up with a non polarised cap in one of the 'legendary' radios by putting a DC bias on it for instance. Uniden just isn't as good as people think it is.
