The reason I plan to use this is because it offers water proofing layer so if something crazy happens I won't have to redo all that plywood subfloor.

Great video thanks for the info, Quick question :Did you level the floor or did the lifeproof pad make it to where you don’t need to level the subfloor? Thank you for your time
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
This house is fairly new. And the subfloor was Advantech plywood. In flooring level is not so much as important as flat. Some times leveler is our best friend but in this case the subfloor was super flat. So not a lot of prep was needed. Thanks for the question

@@YOUFLOOR thank you for the reply I appreciate your help. I just pulled up the old vinyl flooring . There’s a few spots with dips humps not too drastic .do you recommend I use the Henry feather finish or just lay the life proof padding and let them fill areas where needed ?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
If you're using lifeproof, that is an end tap down method of installation . With that being said small dips ore ok but if you have dips bigger than. 1/8inch in 6 ft. I would fill them in. It's been my experience when a seam lands on a dip the plank under the clip system can fail making it slightly pull away from the top. With a flat floor this is impossible. If your concerned at all about a dip, I would fill it in with floor leveler, floor patch or some thin set and a screed. Hope that helps. Good luck with your project.

Are those seams not to be perpendicular to the floor?

hi After I removed the carpet and padding from my 3 upstairs rooms, I noticed a dime sized hole that was drilled in the wood subfloors of two of the rooms. Inside the hole is a very narrow wire (equivalent to wired earplugs) that extend from one of the rooms, down the hall and into a hole of one of other rooms. I'm afraid to cut it because I believe that it is supplying or receiving some sort of power to something on the 1st level of the home. Any suggestion on how to apply the life proof vinyl floors around? Thank you
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
Well if it is not accessible. And it is down below the subfloor, and you don't want to cut it, then just floor right over it. I would measure off 2 walls to get the exact location and put the numbers In My phone just in case I need to find those holes later. Never had this before. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

After I contacted you I had an electrician remove some dated light fixture and install new ones... I asked him about the wires and he said they were used for an alarm system that was installed by previous owners and it can be removed if I did not use the previously installed alarm system... Therefore, I simply removed the wire and installed my floors.. and Thanks to your tips, detailed explanation for beginners, I installed 3 rooms if flooring like a PROFESSIONAL!!!! Do you have have any videos on installing planks for hallways? Again, thanks!!!

Thanks for your informative videos! I had a question for you regarding Lifeproof flooring I bought for my own house. I am a Redseal journeyman carpenter, and have done some flooring in my career but... I have been planning on laying Lifeproof over high density 1/2" ridged foam board over a concrete floor. Yes I understand that I will void any warranty. I'm try to create a thermal break from the concrete floor which is only about 18" below grade (which is not below the frost line here in Canada). What do you think? Will the joints fail? Would it be worth the risk in your opinion? Have you seen Lifeproof laid over underlay and has it been a real issue? This 1/2" foam board is quite hard. I'm not sure of the PSI rating.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
Yeah I have never heard of this being tried. It's sounds risky . This product has been good to install in the past. But I've had some (like the whiteish grey in this video) that did n t want to sit all the way down and stay down. Especially if there were any slight dips. If there is any way you could test it out on a small section before you did the whole floor that would be beneficial. I would hat for the foam. To start breaking down over time and create soft spots . That will definitely cause issues. But I am not sure about foam underneath unless it is thin and very stiff. Hope that helps at. Just haven't ever tried this . So that all I can ho on Thanks for the question and the view

Heya, just thought I'd give you a LONG overdue update - I layed down a row of the foam board and installed a few rows of the flooring and walked on it as a test while I did other work in the room... I think it may have worked, but it was the install that was really tricky - to get the joints to snap together without breaking- having that cushion underneath made the install nearly impossible It went together so much easier and properly layed directly on the concrete Just thought I'd let you know Thanks for your input I'm glad I did a test as you suggested. I was able to return all the sm board for a full refund, not having cut any of it

@Rob-er6ld Ride on I do not blame you. Yes, I never understood that myself. It seems like it would make it squishy especially being l v p. I didn't think it made any difference in my opinion. So I'm like you. I would not spend the extra money. Glad you got it figured out man and thanks for checking back in with me👍

Does the underlayment need a expansion gap? Or does it go straight all the way to the wall. In the video it looked like you put it against the wall without a gap? I wanted to double check since I couldn’t find any info regarding this topic. Thanks
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
There is no specific guide lines for installing it with expansion gaps. Generally the expansion gap is there to allow the flooring and the part of your house to move and settle together. Over time things shrink and expand. You just want to worry about two hard pieces of material won't ever bind each other up. You can run the pad all the way to the wall or just under the flooring. Either way is fine. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

@@YOUFLOOR is it best to use life proofs additional underlayment to add moisture protection and prevent mold?
@YOUFLOOR

You can, but it is definitely not necessary. I have found that they foil tape on the purgo.Underlayment can sometimes make a crinkly sound underneath.I usually tear that off and use my own ssealant tape

Can i put sticky floor 12 x 12 tiles on that for bathroom project?
@YOUFLOOR

I wouldn't do that. Sticky tiles are ment for sticking straight to the floor. If you try to stick it to foam pad , your flooring may move around. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

I thought Lifeproof came with its own underlayment already on the underside of each plank? In fact it says so on the box.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
Well sir. I'm gonna assume you only read the title and didn't make it to the video. So to summarize, Life proof does come with its own pad. And if you lay a regular floor muffler under it it will cause stress in the joints. This could cause piece of the locking g system to fail and planks will start to come apart. It will void the warranty and really is not needed. My customer wanted to know if there was a product that could go under the flooring g to cut down on the noise. We did a lot of research to see if there was an approved underlayment for extra quietness that can be installed under lifeproof. This product was the only approved product. In my opinion it didn't help but it didn't make it any more squishy either. Hope that answered your question. Thanks for the comment

I wish I had watched this video before I started putting down that underlayment. The reviews are good on Home Depot’s site but when I opened it, yikes! It’s thinner than the padding in a padded envelope. Oh well next time I’ll skip it. Helpful video though!
