In this video I cut a Keep JKU painted fender flares. This method is free and leaves a professional looking finish to your Jeep JKU. It also gives you about 2' of free lift. This method does not require you to buy the plastic door trim to hide the cuts, be careful not to break any OEM fender clips as you follow along.
Watch this 'how to' video for an easy upgrade to your Jeep.

By far the best stock fender snip I've ever seen. I just put 35" Baja MTZs on my JKU and am going to go by this to chop mine. Good to see other AB Jeepers out there, I live in Calgary.

very nice. as stated before, best cut on the tube. i don' have painted fenders but the rears turned out great, after spraying with textured bed-liner paint. might try the door trim to see how it looks. wondering how you marked such a straight line.

It’s really not too difficult with a little confidence and careful marking/cutting. I though, I could always replace the parts I cut should I not be happy with the results. Or fit an aftermarket set of fenders. Good luck with your new Jeep build
@kevinm605
@kevinm605 2 года назад
I’m new here, I liked the easy simple way you showed it. My question is what did you do with the pinch seam in the front of the rear tire ? Bend ? Cut ? Ignore ? And what size tire is possible with no lift, except a 3/4” leveling puck in the front. I guess that’s 2 questions.
@OTBT_Canada
@OTBT_Canada 2 года назад
I didn’t need to touch the pinch seem, my lift (2.5”) gives me enough clearance for my 35” tires. From my experience, if you put a bigger tire on without lift you will start to experience rub. I believe you may get away with 33” but please do more research. You will start to limit what you can do on the trails if you put bigger tires on without any lift.

Not a fan of these types of fenders, they expose more of the ugly fender wells. I would have to buy custom fender wells to hide them. That said, you guys did an excellent job cutting.

@OTBT_Canada

Hi Bryan, Curtis did not t freehand, he used a finger against the underside of the fender flare and used that as a guide whilst drawing it. I probably didn’t explain that very well did I 🤦🏼‍♂️

I am running stock rims with Mickey Thompson Baja Boss 33x12.5x18 tires. No lift so I have 2 inch spacers. This pushes my tires out about an inch and a half. I like to run with my doors off so I have mud guards on my front fenders. Do you think there would be a way to attach mud guards once the fenders are cut? Thanks.
@OTBT_Canada
@OTBT_Canada Год назад
Good question, I understand where you’re coming from, skinny fenders always allow for mud flying up the sides of the Jeep. You can definitely fit them to the rear but that doesn’t solve your dilemma. There’s not much taken off the front fender at the side, but when you lose most of the inner liner, there’s a lot of structural integrity lost in that area. If you could find some that would fit to your frame maybe?
@russdesomer5684
@russdesomer5684 Год назад
@@OTBT_Canada I have an idea. I just bought some big rig mud guards that I was going to use to make a bigger set. Maybe I can stack them and create some structure. I will let you know hos it goes. Thanks.

@6:15 what saw blade are you using on the angle grinder?
@OTBT_Canada
@OTBT_Canada 3 года назад
Hey, it’s a regular 4.5” blade for steel, one of the thinner ones. Though it’s well used, hence the smaller looking size. I’m not too sure of the brand as it’s worn off, Diablo maybe

@@OTBT_Canada Thanks for your response, question since you did this already and have experience on it...I bought a new Bosch angle grinder and it comes with a type 27 metal cutter in the box and then I also bought a 40 tooth carbide tip general purpose hard and soft wood cutting saw blade for the grinder. Should I use the type 27 that came with the grinder or the carbide tip for the cutting of the flare? www.amazon.com/Bosch-CG27M450-Grinding-Cutting-Abrasive/dp/B000MRQE60/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3ITKEHX2ZEEKW&dchild=1&keywords=bosch+type+27+grinding+wheel&qid=1618396759&sprefix=bosch+type+27%2Ctools%2C180&sr=8-3 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GBTJ448/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004SUOU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

@@Chitown9969 id be inclined to suggest to not go with the carbide tipped steel saw blade as your first choice. But I’m not a professional and it’s my own opinion. I would definitely suggest doing a couple of samples cuts with both, ensure you’re below the cut line and all that plastic is then sacrificial. You’re just cutting away excess, it’s the finer finish that matters most. Be careful when cutting that the blade doesn’t dig in and drag you, it could take you over the cut line. Especially on the bends, do those lightly at first and slowly go deeper. Remember the plastic is going to melt onto the cutting blade and you may need to periodically pull away the debris from your cutter. I hope that helps, good luck, and take your time, you’ll be surprised how easy it is 👍🏼
