Urolift - Preoperative Instructions and What to Expect Afterward the Procedure 

I had it done today with laughing gas. No problem. Drove myself home.

I had this procedure done three weeks ago. The first four days are uncomfortable. This is due to tissue healing. After that it's been great. I wish I had had it done sooner. I took a valium one hour before the procedure and used nitrous gas during the procedure. No pain. I would highly recommend anyone having this done. It's a vast improvement. I feel like I'm twenty years old again.

Had this done yesterday morning 4-29-21 @8:30 am with local anesthesia method ie.valum,oxycodone and lidocaine. I felt the staple firing while I watched on the monitor, the water injection into the bladder was the most intense discomfort. 8:45 am Its all done and get up from the table and hit the toilet peeing..blood and clotting but not bad. 9:15am walk out and head home (I live 1 mile from office). 10:00am-3:00pm still burning during urination with some blood and small clots BUT! I made Sure I drank lots of water to flush out. 7:00 pm No more blood in urine and flow was increasing with very minimal burning sensation. Bed time..I did get up every 2 hours to pee which is normal after procedure but the flow was getting stronger. Today 4-30-21 @3:00 pm Day two and I no longer have the feeling of having to pee all the time. So my experience is for 10 minutes of (discomfort/pain) it's well worth the gain of peeing like a racehorse!

I had my euro lift done on Oct 21. I’m sure the numbing jell helped but some form of laughing gas did the trick! I was almost all the way out and did feel alittle but very satisfied with the outcome. ( Oct 25 now) I was sent home with a cath but it didn’t bother me much, even removed it myself. Only minimal discomfort on day one. Feel 100% as of yesterday even tho I taking it easy. I have a very strong stream but will have to give it time for full results. I do believe the doctor you choose make a difference. My doctor had done over 600 procedures and is teaching others how to address the medium lobe ( which I had ). There is always risk. Choose A Good Doctor!

I had this done 10 days ago. I was knocked out in a hospital tho for just over an hour. Woke up a little sore down there. Blood in urine for about 4 days and had very little control at first - luckily I was wearing two pair of sweatpants - I did pee on myself 4xs - then I learned quickly. This is 10 days later - as I post this - still sore when I pee - overall though - about a 40-50% improvement. I still wake on some nights every two hours to pee, but on some nights - I’ve slept between 5/7 hours. For me this is and was a blessing to have done.

I had the UrolLift procedure done somewhere else and it was a total failure. Prostate size, lobe positions and bladder neck all met preoperative screening and I was considered an excellent candidate. I wasn't given a foley after the surgery and ended up in an ER from total urinary retention. I ended up having to wear that for a few weeks until a urodynamic test could be performed but the doctor told me I would likely have to self-cath. for the rest of my life. I never had to do that before the procedure but have relied on Flomax. Results of the urodynamic proved I did have bladder function even though the doctor said prior visualization of the bladder wall suggested it was stretched and "capacious". With no explanation of why the Urolift has made me worse he is suggesting TURP. While some of my urinary functioning slowly returned after a couple of months back on Flomax, I'm still worse than I was prior to surgery and I won't be seeing him again. I thought Urolift would be bullet proof. If placement of the "tethers" and anchors are correct and visualization shows the urethra is properly dilated, how can it not work? I'm reading more and more people who are not having any success with UroLift and not finding as many positive outcomes here on RU-vid. Not scientific for sure but something just doesn't add up.

just had mine done yesterday in Michigan. yesterday was hectic due to bladder spasms where u feel u always have to go although nothing is there. its about 16 hours later, it feels better i can tolerate it. i jump into my hot tub help tremendesly. i was given anxitey gas which id ok but if i was to do it again i would go genral.

Yes I had the procedure 3 years ago and It was one of the WORST decision I have ever made. I regret it. I am now suffering the consequences because the #Urolift procedure has made my condition worse than it was before.

I would not recommend this Urolift to anyone, My husband had it done a week ago and its been a nightmare. Emergency room 3times catheter clogged with clots. One week after surgery has to self cat. He wishes he just left it alone. He still gets up several times a night to pee. Even after self cat at bedtime. This is horrible. What was supposed to be a easy procedure with improved benefits has turn out to a complete nightmare. Praying for his healing and a solution. What should we do??

Your Prostate will continue to grow after this procedure, what happens to these hooks then?

If a redo is required, how do they retrieve the staples, especially the ones on the far side of the prostate? Or, do they leave them in place? If staples break, how to you find the broken pieces?

I am told I would have to self catheterize everyday possible for the rest of my life. My symptoms now are WORSE than before Urolift. Do I need glasses or is the camera not focused?

Had procedure 2 weeks ago. I am 59 years old. I was somewhat sedated but not as much as I wish. Expect burning and blood clots for couple days after. I wore a depends at night but didn’t need it. I still take tamsulosin at bedtime. Stream is much better. Urinating frequency has reduced. I am told it will improve. Go back to urologist in 6 weeks

Could someone please indicate EXACTLY what prostate characteristics qualifies, or disqualifies, a prospective patient for the Urolift procedure? I have a 140 mile trip to the closest trained physician in Oregon. Thanks.

When considering the Urolift verses the Green Light procedure, can this be determined at the time I show up for a procedure or does it require a scope inserted into my urethra for evaluation prior to showing up for the work?

I had the procedure last week with all the usual expected discomfort following. However is it normal for the stream to be bad in the beginning. I urinate immediately now, unlike before but the stream is slow, starts dribbly and sometimes the stream does straighten out for a moment during, but then dribbles again til the end. Is this normal for the first week? And yeah, it IS quite painful but calms down after I'm done.

Had Urolift done 2 days ago, doctor said everything went great, had it done in a surgery center in are local hospital. Was knocked out for the surgery, lasted 45 minutes or so went home same day. Worst part was i had a catheter for the night till the next morning when my doctor removed it. Day 2 still urinating a lot and is somewhat painful, hope like it has been told that all will go away after a couple of weeks.

It worked for me for only two years and then urgency returned. Tried to talk to the Urolift company but they refused to talk to me. Any ideas to extend the lifespan of the implant? Was hoping for it to last at least five or even ten years.

Mine was a local Anastasia and was told not to eat or drink anything after 12 am or 8 hours before procedure.

I had this done and the urologist I used had planned on doing it under general. The problem was no one told me not to eat. I was given nitrous and the procedure was excruciating. I jumped during the process and it nicked my urethra lining so I got a Foley catheter I had to leave in for 5 days. I would have rescheduled and done it under general if I could do it over again. I am hoping I get the results that they claim because so far it’s been a real ordeal. You are getting staples put in your prostate. I’m not sure how some guys say... ah no big deal. My urologist does all of his under general. That’s my advice but if you want to do it without anesthesia... be forewarned.

I'm having this done shortly. The doctor originally wanted to do it under sedation, but I convinced him to perform it with a local only. I'm not sure if that will be just the Lidocaine or something like an epidural. I am curious about the anxiety medication you mentioned. What is it, and does it leave the patient awake? I wouldn't mind something that relaxed me without putting me to sleep or giving me amnesia. I would like to recall the procedure.

I had the proceedure closer to home. IT HURT LIKE HELL,! Lidocaine and nitrous oxide might have helped but I felt all 4 poke and pinch as it was placed. Only bled a couple times after. Three weeks later I still apply lidocaine on my perineum sometimes to relieve the PINCHING SENSATION! Urination is getting better but it is still over ten times a day. My advice is to bring diapers.

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I had the procedure done on on the 10th of January. Went to see my Dr today 3 weeks later (PA saw me, not Dr.). She gave me the go ahead to stop my meds (Proscar and Flomax, both generic). I'm concerned about withdrawal side effects. Are there any and what are they?

Local! That’s crazy. I just had a scope to see if everything is ok. Drove me crazy it hurt. I asked about laughing gas and he doesn’t do that. Said I will be under anesthesia for procedure. Question: is it not common to do the first scope without anxiety meds? Of any kind?

Your urologist may recommend a re-do. Given my experience with my re-do, I'd advise you to think long and hard before agreeing to it. Have you had any luck with Flo-Max since your urolift?

I would love to see urologist undergoing this procedure himself under local anesthesia. Yes, it it cheaper ( translation : usually more money going to the pocket of the urologist ) , safer than general anesthesia , but always painful. Doctors should be honest about it. Discomfort / pressure are euphemisms substituting for one crucial world : pain. This procedure can be very safely performed with IV use of ketamine or propofol. No intubation neeeed, but a presence of CRNA is required.

Well, I just finished by second Urolift a few days ago. It was in office under valium and local anesthetic. Because it was a redo, a company rep from Urolift was present to observe. IT HURT LIKE HECK! That was on Tuesday. Today's Saturday and I still have significant blood in my urine and it still hurts a bit when I pee. The flow is a bit better, but not what I thought it should be by now. I assure you, this was my last Urolift. I read somewhere that the FDA shows Urolift has a 14% failure rate within 5 years. When I mentioned this to the company rep, she became defensive and corrected me indicating it was actually 13.5%. If this one fails at any point, they'll be hearing from my lawyer.

My urologist said I am a good candidate for the urolift. A year ago I had a mri and scope. If I wait until next winter is it customary to have another full evaluation before I would have it done? I am taking .4mg of flow max every 12 hrs and have very much less discomfort. What are the long term issues of the drug and the urolift?

I had the Urolift done two days ago, I only suggest you do this under general anesthesia, no way I would do it otherwise. The pressure afterwards is barible, I passed clots the first 24 hours and this is my third day and feeling slugish and just different down there. Sitting in one position is uncomfortable for a long period of time.

What is the ….. Long Term ….. prognosis of the Urolift procedure, 3, 5, 10 Years??:?????? The Rezum procedure is only about 3 years.

For me Urolift lasted for only two years. I was counting on FIVE or even TEN. Not happening

I had this done over a year ago. The procedure was painless but the results very disappointing.

A urologist said i had overactive bladder...i saw another urologist and he said i have an enlarged prostate with the possibility of thus procedure..hope i can drive home since ill be by myself

I had the procedure with a local anesthesia. It was fast and painless. The downside is that the procedure wasn’t as effective as I was hoping. I’d guess a ten to fifteen percent improvement. I was hoping for more. As a result I’m also now taking Cialis. The Cialis and the urolift together have improved my symptoms by about thirty to forty percent.

I had this procedure done 3 years ago came off my meds soon after,6 months ago had blood in my urine had internal examination, it was found the sutures had cut through the prostate and are now embedded in.dont know what happens next fortunately I live in England where the treatment is free

I had this done I Feb 2022 under general....no problems during or after EXCEPT...nothing changed Forsythe better...still up 4 times a night but now have ejaculation probs....I wanted iTIND but couldn't find anyone in USA. so opted for Urolift ...not a good decision!

I had 7 implants and they don't work. Bleeding 6 months later. Had to have C.T. Scan and Bladder Scope. Urologist says to me he thinks he put one of the Implants in too close to my Bladder. He tells me Good News, he can fix it! He tells Bad News, is I would need to be put under in the hospital. My question is "Should I have to pay for this? Since he made the mistake. I had the Urolift thinking I could get off taking Tamsulosin. That didn't happen. If I don't take it, I cannot Urinate at all. If I forget to take it, just one day, I pay for it! My Conclusion! Urolift Was A Big Mistake!

I don't recommend local anaesthesia. Forget the xanex or whatever they give you to relax. You are still going to feel pain during the procedure. I just had it done 2 days ago.

3 days ago. No pain during or after. Mild burn peeing thats it. I did work that afternoon. Dont be scared of this!!!! I was on nitrous and felt nothing--heard the 2 docs talking

....This is approaching the 2 year mark since this video was released, and about 7 years since the procedure was approved. There should be a substantial track- record by now with the bugs worked out......Who would have thought that a "grappling hook" shot to the other side of the gland would do the trick...

I had the urolift today. My bladder area is aching and the end of my penis feels like I have to pee incredibly bad. I have a Foley and it is working, there is urine going into the bag. I have to wear it two days. But like I said or tried to say, I am in misery. I have pain pills but it is not really pain, it is the sensation of having to go really bad. Anyone got any good suggestions?

I live in Orlando Florida. I'm having this procedure on April 16th. I'm 56 years old and in top physical condition. My prostate seemed to enlarge over night. I suddenly had difficulty urinating, emptying the bladder fully, weak stream, even pain. I've been on tamulosin and finasteride for a couple months. The tamulosin has helped but I still get up at night several times to urinate. The jury is out as to whether the finasteride is going to work. It takes a minimum 6 months for the prostate to shrink. My question is this. After the procedure is it recommended to still take the finasteride to keep the prostate from growing? I'm not having the sexual side effects some claim so I don't mind taking it. I just don't want to have to undergo another surgery in a couple years if the prostate grows over the urolift anchors.

Severe pain for 11 days, like trying to pass razor blades and blood. I did not have a catheter after surgery although my doctor said 80% of his patients have one for the first few days. It is several weeks now and the blood and pain have stopped but it still feels like burning when I urinate. Ultimately this is successful but if I had known just how painful it would be I probably would have passed on this surgery and tried something else. JMO

What about retrograde ejaculation with Urolift??

I Urolift late 2021. Not the result I was hoping for. Very light stream when peeing. I give it a 4 out of 10 for success.

Don't get your tail in a knot. One week out. Just had the Urolift done. As for pain after..... it's pretty minimal to NONE. I had a Percoset, Lidocaine, and Antibiotics for 7 days.They placed 6 stents. The whole procedure took maybe 10 minutes. NO PAIN, no catheter. The only thing I feel is some burning while peeing and that may take another week to resolve..... it gets better each day. I do have almost uncontrollable urges to pee and wear pee pads just in case. If I need to...... I just pee into the pad if I'm not home, they're abosorbante enough to hold whatever the load, no racing for a bathroom and no one knows I just had an accident. Positioned properly the don't leak or show leakage! This too is resolving as my prostate heals.... the poor thing just had 6 stents fired through it. I'm not using my flomax at the moment. I'm looking forward to next week as things resolve..

Had a Urolift 7 hours ago and still on the catheter/baggie. I thought I was being a wimp, but reading the comments, “hurt like hell” is the norm. The Doc was a John Henry wannabe, loved the sound of the gun followed by muffled oink on my end. (His surname was German.) When I can get around to pee, will all those spikes will sound like a xylophone?. TBD. Oh the indignities of old age. Cheers, D

Why are the doctors performing the procedure only with local anesthesia, this should be done under general anesthesia. When you have a colonoscopy you are under general anesthesia. Same principle inserting a tube into your body. It seems to me doctors don’t care about your comfort just how fast they can get it done.

The AMA and every Male yurologist needs to tell the TRUTH!!! Any time an instrument is being all. passed through a mans urethra its NIT minimally invasive at all.

Read all these comments there from end of the spectrum to the other! Do your research first, read, listen watch a lot of videos and comments then make your decision. I’m almost 70 had it done last week. Was put to Sleep felt nothing. Get serious there is going to be some pain with any treatment to your prostate! In my case the catheter was removed the next day to early I had to go back and have it put back in for a few more days. Yes it’s a bit painful and uncomfortable. Things need to awaken after being shut down by anesthesia don’t be dump. It takes a little time to heal and recover. 1-2 weeks.

There are many options for this and they all can have negative side effects. Instead of listening to the doctors who advertise various procedures, read the comments of people that went through the experience. Some are horrific...It is disappointing that in this day and age we still let old men suffer in agony. And the "best" solution is still the old TURP method, used for a century.

Do you have male nurses. I will not have female nurses or cnas seeing or touching my genitals again. Also want my spouse present for any procedures. Many men feel as I do and suffer because of this. I have been humiliated to many times by female scrub techs, nurses and cnas for private area care. Won't even have another colonoscopy. Definitely no more prostate procedures again unless I can have all male team. Men want same respect as women do. We just don't go get treatment because of the way we are treated without dignity and respect for our modesty.

Sure you have a female nurse inject lidocaine. Hire male nurses fo those men who do not want females staff for intimate care.
