Used Hyundai Sonata 2002 - 2005 Reliability | Most Common Problems Faults and Issues

Mine drives so smooth. I had a starter go bad a few months ago. It was the stock starter, so I can't really complain because it had lasted 17 years and 100,000 miles. The only current issue is a leaky trunk due to dry rotted brake light gaskets. Not really a manufacturing issue as much as it is just age.

I just bought my first car which is a 2005 Hyundai Sonata LX. So far it has been amazing. I think when this car came out it was when Hyundai started to build the reputation it has today, which is one of the more reliable brands and definitely the brand that gives you the most for your money. This thing had a 10 year 100k miles warranty and the carfax shows 29 service histories, most a a dealership, throughout it's lifetime. I love that I have great leather seats, power assist on driver seat, and both front seats are heated. There's some nice wood trim and a moonroof, it's like a light version of a luxury car. The space is big and the trunk space is huge. It has 135k miles on it right now and drives so smooth and strong. I've only had to do the following minor repairs: replace 1 brake light bulb, replace antenna grommet on trunk, replace passenger side window switch, get a new spare tire/wheel. Absolutely loving this car so far.

I have a 2004 basic model. 90,000 miles. Not many like it left here. Runs well. Needs a head gasket. Rattle somewhere around the serpentine belt.

Mine is a 2003 model. It is very reliable except immobilizer complaint. For the 2nd time my immobilizer went off. Now i gave my ECM for immo by-passing. No more immo-no more worries.

i got da blue 02 sonata with the 2.7L V6 with a solid 284k miles. currently needs new valve covers the way i drive it, oil leaks onto the alternator to the point where it shorts out. but when everything is working the car gets me from A to B without any issues and ive gone out of state on multiple occasions with no issues whatsoever. i will say the car has a lot of electrical problems. the car is also just plain loud usually from what ive seen and mine barely has an exhaust so its much worse lol

mine's 2003 at 210,000km - planning to get it to 300,000km. Just changed timing belt kit (including water pump) recently which looks like still the original since there is no record in the maintenance book about timing belt replacement. Also replaced starter which is still the original. Runs great but hopefully I won't get age-related issues soon.

Just bought one works great except it won't maintain high rpms. Runs so good at low rpm. Just cant figure out why it wont rev out.
