I battled for ages to get to my Sunsynk-5K-SG01LP1 inverter to start my generator. I followed the instructions in the manual (with the generator remote start circuit connected to the "G-S" terminals under the inverter front panel) and followed the advice in this video. Long story short, on my model inverter the normally open contacts of the generator start relay are connected to the adjacent terminals labelled "G-V", not "G-S" as stated in the manual. Keith, I have said this before. You have a great product, but the manual that comes with it is utterly riddled with errors and omissions. One of my biggest complaints is the size of the text in the diagrams that is too small and of too low resolution to read. I would further recommend that you split the manual in two, one half labelled installation, the other half labelled operation.

I’d like to see you redo this video with a real generator (maybe a 7.5 kva petrol) to show how that works because very few people are able to make that work. Your generator used here is not a true reflection of a real world example.

Hi Keith. Good info as always. Just bought my first 2 Sunsynk inverters from Tom this week. Questions if i may ? Under what circumstances would we connect a CT coil to the output of a generator / genset? Also, if we are off grid (but tied in with grid backup) should we be able to use current control elements of more than 1 CT coil at the same time, on these Hybrid inverters ? ( genset , grid and separate PV AC source) For example, i have an "Immersun" proportional load-diversion controller that i initially used to divert spare PV energy into my hot water heating element ... and that device has both a CT coil for generation(PV) monitoring, and a second CT coil for Grid monitoring. The excess produced by my solar gets diverted as a resistive load, or relay switching if needed. But no zero export feature otherwise ... I wouldn't like a generator or other AC source to be back fed if the grid or AC my coupled PV were to be energised at the same time ? Cheers Simon

One question still arises - you say the Generator supplies the load when it kicks in. Why is the battery not supplying the load and the generator then just charges the battery ? Also - why don't you grey out the AUX GEN setting totally, so it cannot be adjusted if the timer is in use or ticked for GEN ?

Hi I am an elect -security contractor in ireland & have just registered for pv solar! Just starting my first install & don’t know what inverter to use! I like your SUNSYNK ! I am doing my own system first & I have 2 arrays! 1 has 14 panels @ 430 w & other has 9 panels @ 430w? Can I use your 5 or 6 kw hybrid inverter for my job? What ratio do your inverters work on? I have seen myenergy Libbi inverters but still think that your are better! I am in ireland & whatever inverter I start with I will keep using! Only problems are sizes of arrays! Thank you for your always informative video Keith. I have been trying to connect my 5.5kva petrol generator to my 8kw Sunsynk inverter but have been struggling and am hoping you can assist. When connected to the grid side of the inverter (I have a mnaul bypass for switching between the grid and the generator) I can hear the inverter trying to connect to the generator as it tries to apply load but then drops out. If I connect the generator to the Aux side it doesn't seem to try connect at all. I have checked the HZ and voltage on the generator and both seem within range at 230Volts and 50hz. I have also tried setting the max load very low but does not seem to make any difference connecting to the Aux port. Do the Hz & Voltage Min/Max settings in the grid menu apply to the generator when connected to the Aux input as well? Any suggestions, I have emailed to the support email address as well.

I'm in the UK and would like to use the system as an UPS running off its Sunsynk battery. I have a number of questions about that so firstly can someone point me to any document that explicitly covers all the required settings and connections? I'd specifically like to know:- A. Do I need to use e.g. my 2kVA gene to energize the inverter for off-grid use? I have a (4PDT) changeover switch that I can mount in the Consumer unit that can isolate the grid (manually) in the event of an extended grid outage and connect the gene in 1 throw. B Is it better to connect the gene direct to the inverter up in the loft or just isolate the grid and feed the gene power into the Consumer Unit downstairs? C. I have a big (3000VA) APC Smart UPS. If I just need to energize the inverter can I use this Line Interactive unit which outputs a Modified Sine Wave or could that cause any damage? Thanks in advance. Andrew.

Hello, if i have a 3 phase 12K invertor will i be able to run a 1 phase generator to charge it ( two methods - 1) if connected to Gen port and bridged phases (all 3 phases have 220Volts 2) Inverter is tied to the grid, when the grid goes away and the generator will fire up giving same bridged 1 phase spilt to 3 phases 220v on each

I have a situation where I have 2x 8kW 1Ph Sun Synk Inverrters - no grid available and have just installed a 20kVA 1Ph generator with a Smart Gen Controller. We have connected as mentioned in the video but the issue is the inverters to send the auto-on command/signal to the generator to start. My problem is that when the batteries reach the charge voltage set, the inverters do not send the uato-off signal to the generator. What are the possible issues? As mentioned grid is not available.

Is it possible to use a cheap (£150, 900W) diesel generator a different way? Ie. Use the generator's 900W being fed in all the time, and the inverter's batteries powering the rest above 900W? (And maybe charging the batteries if the load drops below 900W) Kind of like the same way as the solar inputs work....

Hi Keith I intend to use the generator purely to charge the batteries during prolonged power outages and should we have a week long rainy spell. So it will be on an adhoc basis when required. The generator is a 6.6kW unit without a automatic start feature. Should I then set the timer to charge from the generator for that specific time period?

Hi guys, so I'm trying to hookup my auto start, my gen requires a bat negative (not a problem) switching through a relay. I need to know what supply comes ot of ports 7 and 8 (gen start) so I can fit the relay advice much appreciated.

(because the automatic start as well as other connections). When i run municipality the 12kw 3ph Hybrid see the grid and charge the baterries. But when i run the Gen its sees the gen power coming in but the battery does not charge and my load runs from the battery. please help me with some solutions

Hi Keith, thank you for the videos. We have a 100kw setup, 2 X 50kw Sunsynk Inverters and 2 X 60kw Freedwon batteries, and another 50KW setup with one 60kw battery. At both installations the generator is about 50m away from the inverters and it is therefore not feasible to install a separate cable to make use of the gen port. Our generator is connected to the main grid supply. The generator will start after receiving the instruction from the inverter, but the inverter will then immediately tell the generator to stop because the supply from the generator is being confused for a grid supply. Is there a built in solution for this ? We are using a seperate relay timer at the moment to keep the gen signal closed for a specific period, this is not ideal.

Hi support please help. Installed a 8kva sunsync 10 months ago. Generator connected to the inverter dry contacts. Dry contact battery level set 46V start gen, 52V switch gen set off. Worked well until Aug. Now when grid is off the inv dry contact activates the dry contact and start gen switch gen off when grid is restored. Checked battery levels and is stable. Thanks in advance
