I can't stand 15 minutes watching television, but I watched without excitation for two hours your explanation... AMAZING!! super clear, easy to understand, just loved it!!
Oh, me neither, I don't watch television anymore. I am glad you liked it, I really put myself to work on these guides, planning, editing, etc. Now, does watching YT counts as watching TV ?
Wow, thanks a lot for this extensive in-depth coverage! Behringer should send you a synth, not just for the efforts but rather because you really showcasing the potential/possibilities of using this synth. 😎👍
Thanks !!! I don't think they will provide anything anytime soon, but I would be cool to get demo version to cover them and then maybe give the synth back to someone who need's. Don't think that is going to happen, so far everything comes out of my pocket and patreons.
Wow. I was searching and found this video, to learn how operate the the deep mind 6 I just bought. Thanks to your very informative hand -on teaching of synthesizer fundamentals, I no longer feel lost on how use the many buttons on the deep mind 6. Thank you Sir.
Thanks. It is a good synth. Of all the behringer lineup this is the monster, the one that can get you to many places. The other ones are good, but the have a very specific vibe. For example if I need to do 90's or synthwave , MonoPoly is my first choice and then the DM will take care of other parts. If I need good bass, MODEL D. If I want that gritty classic sound, K2. If I am connecting modules, Neutron and Crave are my central pieces. They all have their purpose, but with the deepmind you can make a full record, it can do it almost all.
Learnt 3 new tricks in the first 10 minutes. I will be back when I have some more time! Thanks for all you efforts. Love the way you pronounce categories😀😀🇬🇧
Hey, thanks !! Yeah, sure, I planned this so people can come back later and watch it in parts. I speak a few languages and need to switch constantly, so it's hard sometimes. When a pronunciation sticks it is very hard to make it right. Besides, I am following the script, talking, thinking, monitoring the camera, those things don't help to keep my pronunciation in the right place. But, I don't know, I think the video turned out to be good despite all of that. Thanks for the support, it really helps.
I haven't even got a DM 12 and I watched your in depth guide. Thinking of getting one for my first synth as I love the way it sounds. Thank you for your time.
This as your first synth is a luxury !! this can make bass, keys, pads, strings. It's a very complete instrument. If you have the money, yeah, pull the trigger.
This is a great walkthrough, like sitting with a mate who's showing you the basics of how these machines work. Thanks so much, looking forward to the next instalment.
Thanks !! Yes, that the idea. I want whoever is watching to feel like there is someone next to him/her explaining how it works. Not reading a full script like a robot, just talking like a normal person. I do follow a plan, but I am just being myself. Thanks for the comment
I'm a pianist and have been thinking about getting a synth - this video has been a superb introduction to understanding synth controls and techniques - THANK YOU :)
Thanks man. It is a great synth. If you are a pianist I can recommend this, specially with 12 voices, ASM Hydrasynth as well, the keyboard is great and finally if you are looking for something different kORG Wavestate.
i endorse XNB's recommendations. the DM12 is the poor man's roland juno, except it has hi-powered digital controls and effects and since you watched the video you see how versatile it is. just the factory patches are mind blowing and there are a lot of them. the wavestate is unique. it makes time based sequences of sequences of wave samples. and it has 4 layers like a baby workstation. i wanted to get a hydrasynth due to the poly aftertouch keyboard and ribbon controller, but i dont like the sound, so i'm waiting for the next generation hydra synth. a 4th synth that is really versatile is the arturia microfreak. now after several firmware upgrades this thing is a beast. watch some vids on it. finally i highly recommend that you download the PDF user's manuals on all 4 of these synths. you will be impressed. happy hunting. synths are great. also consider getting a large keyboard as a controller if you prefer having the full spread of a piano vs crunching arrangements to fit on a 2 or 3 octave synth keyboard with different sized and feel keys. FWIW, i prefer controlling from my 73 or 88 key and i dont like the keyboards that my couple of synths have (i got the DM12 module like he has in this video. it is actually easy to see while live performing because all the controls are stacked vs spread in a long line along a keyboard and i cant be looking for things while playing, no time for it.)
Thanks Jim, i'll try to keep it up. There are a few more videos coming about this one, the synth is just too big to cover on a single video and 3hrs video it's just a bit too much. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks !! Glad to hear that. There is a part two coming, is delayed because my son started school an he bring home every single pest he can find, so I've been sick for 20 days now, but my voice is almost healed.
@@XNBeatsMusic I look forward to the next episode, I was getting a bit bored with mine as I was struggling to get certain sounds but your first vid has given me lots to practice. Thanks again 👍
@@Fraudemusic I bought the D because i have no space. i've got a lot of keyboards so desktop versions are really helpful to me. But if you don't have a good keyboard, and got space, get the keyboard one. You can use it as a midi controller. But remember using analog gear as a cheap midi controller will shorten the life of the synth. So i always prefer to use something cheap as a controller and use the expensive things when required.
@@XNBeatsMusicThanks heaps, you’ve made this an easy choice. Although I like the size of the desktop version I’ll have to pickup the keyboard version as I have the space, won’t be using it as a controller, and it’s as close to an authentic 106 experience that I’ll probably get 👍🏻
Hello, Your channel is a place to really learn, term "in deep" is not stollen in every single tutorial you do. I really thank you for all your work and everything you share with us. Cheers from France.
I bought a 2nd hand DeepMind 12 today, the first synth I ever bought... So, I was looking for a tutorial, and, this is great stuff. Liked & subscribed for obvious reasons!
Great video - the best I've found on the DeepMind 12 for a fairly recent newbie like me. Very clear, well explained and set just at the right pace. Thanks very much !
Thanks !! Glad I could help. And yeah, the synth is a beast...once you take the time to learn what it can do, you can make a whole record just using this one synth.
Oh, I am sorry I just ruined the almost 2 hours of video trying to help you out by mispronouncing "categories". Thank you Steven for you awesome comment. I am sure everybody here will appreciate what you did for us and the community. Let's see your channel and see what your favorite videos so I can learn more from you and be more like you.
Great video! I purchased a DM12 a few months ago and have enjoyed it very much! I learned quite a few things from you that I was unaware of with the DM. I am looking forward to your follow up videos . Looking some of your other videos to maybe see if I want to pick up something else to play with. Liked and subbed. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, it took a lot of time. But it was a pleasure, I really like doing this. Thanks for the support and the comment. It depresses me when I upload and I see no comments.
I have the excellent TAL UNO-LX, and use it a lot. I used to own a Juno 106, so I know the real thing is slightly different, perhaps more alive, gritty etc. I am considering upgrading to a Deepmind, as Juno prices are ridiculous now, and the Deepmind appeals both as a source of genuine analog sound, but also those wonderful hardware sliders and knobs!
For those looking for global tuning: poly section, edit button under "detune," 2nd page, last parameter. "-100" = 432hz A4 ...Man, You're a godsend on this one, the Neutron, and Roland S1, and by this point you could probably teach a college course on synthesis, using allll the toys
This is an amazing tutorial thank you very much for putting the time in to explain it from the ground up. I have just finished the basic section and it was a brilliant recap on things I wasn't 100% sure on. Looking forward to the rest
Yo man, I really enjoyed this "family show", as you call it :D I have been exploring the depths of DM12 for a few years now, but still learned a trick or two! Thank you!
Thanks !! Yeah, I love the expression "Family show", for everyone, no exceptions. The DM is a great instrument, in a few days I'll be releasing the remaining part I couldn't cover because it was too long. Like poly chords, patterns, sequencer, compare etc.
Hahaha, I don't like to read them, but on my other profession I had to read documentation all the time, so reading the manual for me is super normal, business as usual.
I can not express how good you were here. I thank you from the heart and wish you good continuation. It’s helpful and your way of speaking just fits perfectly. Thanks!!!
Thanks !!! Some brand do, but they put musicians to teach. I am musician/producer but just to survive I had to learn to do other things. Teaching is a skill you learn, the planning, the organization, structure, be clear and right to the point. It takes a few years to master.
Brilliant job.. Thank you for your valuable time and deep understanding and translating that to Deepmind fans (Really hope your feeling better 👍🏼) 🇮🇪👏🏼🎶
This is the easiest sub ever!! Huge thanks! :) As a matter of interest, would it be better for your channel if you split this video into three separate videos, say: 1. Part 1 of 3 - Basic 2. Part 2 of 3 - Modulation 3. Part 3 of 3 - Advanced Sorry, I don't know how channel management works so just an ignorant question. Huge thanks again. Loved every minute of it :)
I wish there was a binaural voice stacking mode that uses 2 voices per note panned left and right. Unfortunately I don't think Behringer will release any further firmware updates. All development will go into the DeepMind successor.
Yeah, I don't think the DeepMind will improve. In my opinion, it is already great. Sometimes when the update the firmware to make the synth do more things, the Fuxx up. Like Korg and the update of Opsix, great update, but it has a few annoying bugs.
Thanks for the video, I just bought the Deepmind 12. I was looking for transpose and the manual on page 77 was misleading.. some of the bands I work with like to tune down a step for the sake of their singer.. I subscribed to your channel because you do a great job explaining .. thanks again..
I just got my DM12D and had to send it back for a replacement - I had the problem of a constant tone at 6k/12k. This is really helping pass the time until I get it back. Thanks so much for this video!
I read Juno, analog and then saw the Prince tag and bought it as soon as I could get the money but if I had seen this video beforehand I would have bought it even faster lol.
Thanks, I got sick and I am still recovering, but I already planned it and did the "behind the scenes" work. As soon as my voice is up and running I'll shoot, edit and upload :)
thanks !!! I'll try to keep it up, but yeah, I can only cover the synths I own. Maybe in the future the can contact me and provide the ones I don't own, not to keep them of course.
@@fabiosantoriell0 hhaha, it takes a while. I write and plan the material. Already wrote for deepmind ( seq, poly chords, compare and other things),, neutron k2. All planned and written...but i've got sick, I still am recovering and my voice is still weird. So I cannot start recording until my voice is OK..... it takes a whole day, depends on the synth and the editing takes two days. Also, wrote the script for Minilogue XD, Opsix and in a while I will start with Hydra, Arp oddysey, crave. But right now, I am waiting for my voice to be in good shape.
This has to be one of the best if not THE best tutorial on this platform not only just for the Deepmind but for synthesis in general. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this, truly appreciated!
Are you still planning on a part 2? Reading manuals is not the best way for me to learn so I rely on these wonderful videos. I am trying to figure out how many user patches are allowed, how to save created patches, if there's a way to create a user bank. For example a "Bank I" or "Bank J" for me to have my custom patches stored rather than saving over existing presets in other banks etc. Thank you!
These guides are great and give a lot more info than these cheap reviews... you can actually see what the synth can do and what can't! Definietly better than some wanky-youtubers babbling about how "warm", "organic" and cool-shyiet the synth is...
Yes, still planning that one. Neutron is pretty complete for a small modular synth, son it takes time to order thing and try not to miss too much. But yeah, I am planning it.
@@astrarivm I don't think I will do that :S . I like to show you what you can do with something, gear or plugin. You learn nothing from watching a dude showing his expensive instruments or his setup....I've started this because there are a lot of videos out there with people showing off their gear and teaching you nothing. I could show you my expensive guitar collection.....what will you learn from that ? Nothing. Much prefer to show you how to change pickups, or add a treble bleed or how to tune your synth. That is helpful. That is why I don't show my face, it takes more work and it's doesn't make the video about me, it's about the synth and you learning something new :)
@@XNBeatsMusic I feel you. I have my own recording studio. Showing your setup for me is more about vibe, atmosphere and how you use it. Kind of exploration :) I've bought some devices in my studio after watching such videos and very happy with it. Because often I don't even know something exist. But of course I understand your opinion. Thanks for the answer.
Hello XNB, great work, great help. Maybe you could help me because I'm struggling. I can't get it to work in Ableton 11, do you have any ideas on how to proceed? Thank you in advance even if you can't help me. Good luck and more great work.
How would I connect this? I have an iMac running logic, using a Behringer U-Phoria UMC1820 as my AI. I want to be able to use my midi keyboard (Yamaha CBX-K 1 XG) as an input to write midi with the D12 in Logic. But I also want to be able to run other sounds from logic --> D12 ---> back into logic. And to use the D12s LFO, ENV... etc. on sounds i make in logic. Maybe through a patchbay too if possible so I could patch it through my other analog gear before going back into logic? Idk if any of that's possible. Can't seem to wrap my head around how to achieve any of it. I dont want to buy the wrong cables either.
WOOOW...thanks !! You are the first person to buy me a nice coffee :), I actually didn't even noticed this feature was available, haha. So, thank you really, it helps to keep doing theses guides and some other content :)
Great tutorial! I've already got a Roland XP-30. Should I just get the 12D and use the keys on the XP-30, or get the DM12 with the keyboard built in? Which would you do?
Oh !!....what a dilemma. When I bought this I had the same issue. I already have good midi controllers and other synths. So the Keyboard version was a problem, because of space. In my case, I prefer the desktop because I can put it wherever I want. But if you don't have a space issue, the keys are nice and having the mod wheel right there is a plus.
@@XNBeatsMusic Thanks for the reply. For me, I definitely have a space issue. As nice as the all-in-one would be, my setup pretty much dictates that I should get the 12D desktop version. I'm watching this tutorial again because it's so thorough. Seriously excellent.
I'm going to ask what might sound a stupidly easy question to answer. I've not had my DM12 for very long; somy question is: I've mad a nice sounding ambient pad. But, how the hell do I name it, and save it? I've trawled through hours of videos and a I've found nothing. So if anyone knows the secret, please tell me; I'd be so grateful to you! Thanks in advance! Glen (The Wavestate mk2 is a doddle in comparison).
Hey !! I don't use the effect that much, I use it with the daw, so I don't need the effect to record. But, time based effects can be synced. On the delay, when you select the time of the delay...if you go all the way down, it let's you do subdivisions. This will follow the internal clock or whatever you are using to sync the unit, for example the DAW.
