I have two Springfield Range Officer 1911's (9mm black & 45acp stainless). Both are full size (5") & work great, with not much recoil. While the price is great, the main selling point for me was that these are series 70 pistols (like the originals), which is why the triggers are so good (no stupid internal safety crap, like the series 80's in most modern 1911's).

Bruce, people don't realize that John Browning was a smart guy. those pistols were designed with a disconnect safety, an out of battery safety, a grip safety, a manual safety, a half-cock safety. I buy only pistols that are the original 1911 pattern because they don't need any more idiot-proofing. Thanks for watching dude-Dave

Yeah and Springfield uses forged steel and Forge stainless steel frames and slides which companies like Kimber don't do. I've actually worn out 2 Kimber 1911 5-inch models firing quite a bit of ham of through them but still. I have a good friend who builds custom 1911's and he uses Springfield slides and grip frames. He hand fits them. That's a nice pistol you have their brother. Echo

Check out the Metro Arms American Classic 1911s. Just picked up a compact commander: chrome plated, hammer forged slide and frame, Novak sights, skeletonized hammer and trigger with over travel stop, fish scale walnut grips, 70 series. Trigger is smooth but not the lightest. The lockup is very tight (ZERO shake) and that may be due to the chrome plating. Out of the box it ran several different types of hollow points out of all five mags I tested with. Most ammo was one ragged hole at 15yds and the gun shoots better than I do. The chrome compact commander is going for around $640 right now but I have seen the blued(beautiful bluing) full size models, the American Classic II, going for less than $500. They also make higher end models with double stack mags and more machining. Go to eagle imports website to see everything. Same company imports Bersa and MAC.

Wore out the MIM sear and hammer on my SA Range Officer 45 compact. Installed replacement hardened steel parts and many more thousands of rounds down the barrel!

I’m happy with my Range Officer, did have a few minor problems but nothing I couldn’t handle. This gun will out shoot me but I do pretty well with it. A good value and fit my budget.
