Pretty crazy how they’re so different. We had an old guy that worked on all sorts of bikes that lived up the road. He was grumpy all the time. I worked on some bikes over the years and now I know why he was always grumpy. Glad there are patient people out there
Back in the 70's fuel prices skyrocketed too unreal money, our government said there was a fuel shortage and people started looking for more fuel efficient transportation, this was an opportunity for increasing tariff taxes and Japan responded to that demand with cheap fuel efficient cars, and trucks. Motorcycle sales went way up during that time as people just needed a person mover back and forth to work. Japanese cycles were the lowest cost and that kept the price reasonable as far as the tariff tax involved. they were about 1/2 the price of the European cycles even without the tax on them. again, this was a time were people took advantage of investments, stocks, and interest in Japan. BMW lost sales to the point where they changed their management, overhauled their mission and manufacturing practices as well. overall they still made one of the best motorcycles available on the market, however, BMW changed (I feel) for the worse. Hey Dave, as we talked before ethanol gas destroys engines and carburetors. It plays havoc on anything that is aluminum and very corrosive. Shut off the fuel and run the engine till carburetor is dry and run some non-ethanol fuel through for long term storage it is the best advise I can give people. Glad your getting back to riding.
