Beyoncé is actually a better singer than her for example and the quality of the music is not worse by any means - the lyrics of "Save The Best For Last" actually are quite cheesy (though I still like the song and the singer).

she's not whitney indeed, but i prefer vanessa to whitney for a simple reason : she has an amazing CRYSTAL clear Tone in her voice, something very rare. she's not playing the run of the singer who has the "biggest voice" , the "strongest one", the "all by myself + 130db voice"... I like and Love amazing voice (whitney, mariah, Lara Fabian, Michael bolton, Gino Vannelli), but Vanessa is in her own league. Save the best for last, colors of the wind and some other tunes are just perfect. Love the arrangement of Keith thomas on this one (despite the "issue" with "The Best of Me" (from D. foster), and Thomas Arrangment on Menken's Colors of the wind too. Perfect voice for perfect production and tunes.

Vanessa could have chosen a career of screaming too, have you heard her other hits like "Darlin I" or "Go Tell it on the Mountain" but screaming isnt always singing. Vanessa's idols didn't scream, Babs and Bette sung beautifully.

Whitney had 'the voice' but having seen her perform live several times, I was disappointed and reverted back to her produced albums. Most of this can be attributed to deportment. In the live shows with Whitney, she was often late and when on the stage acted as if she did not want to be there. Clive Davis had an idea on how he wanted to market/brand Whitney for the public and Whitney had her own ideas. Would Whitney ever consider performing with the Boston Pops Orchestra? Whitney had her own ideas and she ultimately made her choices. Vanessa seems comfortable in her recordings, live, and in more formal gatherings. As a contestant in pageants, she had a lot of opportunity to refine her total public package. Vanessa simply made different choices and it shows. Today, she does not try to look younger and is at peace with her life and career choices. I respect Vanessa's character as a person.
