It does seem when tuning for performance you lose a bit of the easy starting. The question is can some kind of help be added without upsetting the applecart. A block heater is simple but he would need to fit a second battery to run it.
About 20 years ago I got an education about Cummins pulling power, I borrowed a Dodge Cummins to pull a heavy load and so I could compare the power to my 454 Chevy as sometimes I would pull the same load with the Chevy, well that Dodge made my Chevy feel real lame, I was amazed at that Cummins. This truck is amazingly powerful once the turbo lites. We're hoping to get in on the track in the spring, it should run mid - high 11's in the quarter.
I'm working on a 97 cummins project, just stock, but I was wondering how much power the factory fuel lines will support, they look fairly small, any ideas?
350 - 400hp on the stock setup. We did a video on upgrading the fuel lines for more power ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YM2K7Op6dp4.html Good luck on your project and it's good hear from you it's been a long time -Ed
I Think u need to Put a New Starter in that Truck ! I Just Put a New Starter in My 1999 Dodge Ram cummins turbo diesel and Wow, What a Difference ! I Was Having Really Slow Turnovers Like u Have there With My Old Starter. installing a New Starter Made the Truck Like New Again. Fairly easy Job , Did it My self 2 hours done.Yea, I Know it's Colder there , But still i think truck would benefit from a New Starter.
It has one battery due to all the work we did. It would definitely turn faster with two batts in the engine bay, but that's not going to happen. Zach did replace the old single battery in this video with a new larger battery and it starts much easier now.
Yup 12 valves are not electronically controlled can make them pain to start sometimes in the cold if you advanced the timing....Had one few years ago and it was cold blooded as well
