Imagine you're introduced to Super Mario Bros as a kid. You love it, your eyes are opened to the world of video games. You dream of becoming a video game maker some day. You grow up, you study, you go to college. You get hired by a video game developer, you finally get to live your dream. Your entire life has culminated to this moment. You gleefully come to work and start your first day. Your heart sinks into your stomach as you are tasked with the creation of Care Bears for the Game Boy Advance. This is your life now. You work on shovelware title after shovelware title with no budget and tight deadlines for the next decade. Your passion for video games is lost and you wonder why you wanted this job in the first place. You eventually quit and spend the rest of your days doing IT work for some car dealership in Arizona.
Fun fact: That Hot Wheels game could’ve been A LOT worse. I was partially responsible for sending the games in this pack to Vinny, and in that pack I included two Hot Wheels games, and Vinny’s vetting team deleted the wrong one, so Vinny got super lucky that he played the one he did.
What was the other one? I remember the Hot Wheels games on the GBA to be p solid. Dead ass Hot Wheels World Race was one of my favorite game of all time as a kid
Oh no, I remember this stream now. Those MONSTER TRUCKS ARE THE BANE OF ALL EARS. The guitar is crying, the tires are scraping against the pixelated floor likes nails on a chalkboard, this... would make for a great interrogation tool.
@Recycle Zinns Same. I ended up with that game as part of a 2-in-1 cartridge I won from a school book fair jar guessing game (or was it a raffle? I can't entirely recall) The other game on that cart was called Quad Desert Fury, and it wasn't all that better; framerate was a little more bearable, but the audio was equally bad.
"Right now, I'm helping the audience fall asleep" He doesn't know how right he is, given that I've been watching Vinesauce in bed to go to sleep recently
@@CaptainFrisby He should narrate an Audiobook at some point. He has even said at one point that he wants to narrate for "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?".
some people in the keygen and demo scene would go on to work in the video game industry in some form, so it wouldn't be too surprising. I know a few other Gameboy games had music from demo scene artists.
Is it just me, or does that Hot Wheels game actually look pretty solid? Outdated most certainly, but it does look like a competent racing game for its time.
I played it recently and it's actually not that bad at all. The console/PC version is much better in comparison, but the GBA version still holds up in my opinion.
Owner of a cartridge here, it very well could be. I played this game pretty often on my Advance when I was a mindless kid without any concept of video games not always being fun. I'm pretty sure it's just a standard GBC cartridge, but it still looks a bit off. The one I have is a clear cartridge that lets you see the inside. I'll have to get a better look at it later to compare.
I love how that cartoon network racing game has Sheep In The Big City represented. Even now, despite going for allegedly two seasons it feels more like something that ran for like ten episodes and then was never spoken of again. It took Team Four Star mentioning it in (I think) one of their Pokémon videos for me to even realize it was a real show and not some fever dream I had.
1:18 It's best to start a garbage game pack with a game that seems like trash or shovelware but is actually good/competent. It gives you a baseline to measure just how trash everything else is, and shows that they have no excuses for pumping this trite out. After all If a different shoestring budget licensed game can be good or even impressive, why can't shit like 1:29 or anything else here also be good? Because one dev cared and the others didn't. We go from a sold 32-bit polygonal racer that wouldn't look half bad next to Virtua Racing or Ridge Racer (especially for fucking GBA tbh. Genuinely impressed) to voxel & sprite hell that somehow manages to look AND run worse than the previous game. Set the bar high so we realize just how low we've stooped.
@@sirthanksalot97 Agreed. I've seen a lot of 3D on GBA and that's easily up their with some of the best. You could have told me it was a 32X or early PSX game and I would have bought it. The only thing lesser than those here is resolution, because obviously GBA screen =/= TV.
There's GBA versions of Need for Speed: Underground 1 and 2, which both are really good games and have full 3D, too. EA paid me to tell you to go look them up. Probably the best 3D the gba actually has.
@@some-say-gregms Metroid Fusion is great, Zero mission plays better though. Neither are as good as Super Metroid. I have them all on my 3DS. I have a few GBA games on my 3DS but I don't play them as often as NES and SNES because the sound is so bad.
There were subliminal messages in that wrestling game, I swear. Somebody’s in some sort of peril and they’re trying to communicate through strange, crusty gifs.
For a brief time in my youth, I went through a "horse phase" and owned several horse games, including that Barbie one on the GBA. I remember thinking it was boring crud even back then, which is saying something because I was pretty easily amused as a kid. The music also had an eerie quality that rubbed me the wrong way, so it's good to know that it sounds off to other people too.
I see Ed boy and the Red Guy in the thumbnail, so I'm already interested. Sidenote: So weird to see EEnE slowly getting attention and relevancy recently
I think it's people who grew up with it are kinda rediscovering it. At least that's the case with me. I love that show even more as an adult that I did as a kid.
I loved that Cartoon Network racing game as a kid. One time i was messing around in the password screen and accidentally managed to do the unlock everything code. I was forever mad that I couldn’t remember what the code was
As a hardcore Stone Cold Steve Austin fan for my whole life, I can confirm that 3:16 is actually a reference to the time he punched a midget in the face.
I loved playing Hot Wheels Stunt Track Challenge and Cartoon Network Speedway when i was younger, they were fun trash and i'm glad i got to see Vinny play them
We used to have that Barbie Horse Adventures game, I do not remember the sound being so fuckin creepy tho The "Bynasty Warriors" was hilarious tho, my favorite Three Kingdoms rendition yes with my favorite characters Biu Bei, Bao Bao, and Bun Quan
Shrek Fairy Tale Freakdown is one of the most traumatizing games I've ever subjected myself to. I rented it as a kid and hated it and regretted my choice, and then years later I found a copy of it in a couch somewhere I had just moved. I don't even like Shrek.
I came here straight after watching the AI generated RU-vid poop video and the intro cutscene with Vince made me question if I had actually changed videos for a second.
I had that Garfield game as a kid, probably got it at a flea market. The first game I ever rage quit, I can still hear the death sound effect in my head to this day.
I hope one day, someone will look at me the same way Vince McMahon looked in that opening cutscene. Because then I'll know I'll be dead in ten seconds. We could all use a ten second friendly warning before imminent death.
Is it just me or does Garfield have two right feet when he taps his foot as an idle animation? When Vinny zooms in around 12:15 it looks like he had one foot in place and the other was animated.
I said this before on the original stream archive, and I'll say it again here: I unironically loved Monster Trucks as a kid and I'm absolutely baffled by that fact.
I actually had some of these games, since as a kid I'd just often get a barrel of the cheapest gameboy games I could find often. The Nostalgia Stream is real
I feel so strange remembering my childhood with some of this games. Like, I don't know if I felt bored or had fun, but besides the good games this is all there was to play
You look at the maclanky and think of how tasty it would be if you ate it raw. You think of how tasty it would be if you ate it cooked. You think of how tasty it would be if you ate it boiled.
my aunt got me shrek fairytale freakdown for my gbc when i was a child. i used to play it under my night light when i was supposed to be asleep. i could never beat thelonious. i finally beat him recently when i downloaded the game on my emulator for a nostalgia trip
