Interesting to hear about Mendoza and those animals using echo location ..I love stuff like that. I need to check out more Greatful Dead, I have only a scant knowledge of their discography..the Live Dead and American Beauty albums are the only two I'm really familiar with. Michael, I mistakenly thought that you were going to show a beaten up/ disfigured copy of Fleetwood Mac's ''Rumours'' album. Fantastic review of ''Mars Hotel'', I loved the details that you included. I was brought up on the live versions of the classic tunes from this release, but enjoy the studio recordings too. I met a young guy, Pedro, who studied Echolocation at Brown University, we bonded due to our shared love of music. He always educated me about bats and we turned each other onto some great music. He really dug my recommendation of Alvin Lucier's ''echolocation'' piece, ''Vespers'' from 1968. Mendoza Hoff Revels does conjure up the King Crimson crunchfest. For better or worse, bats do eat insects, I know you love insects !

Grateful Dead record looks great. China Doll is a great song for sure. Eerie is a good description; kind of ominous. I am not familiar with Samuel R. Delaney - maybe I'll try to track down something he's written. Thanks for showing the records!

Hi Michael, despite being a pretty avid Deadhead I don't think I'll be going for the Mars Hotel reissue. I think I'll stick with my version that I got way back in the day - it's just that there's so much other stuff to get! It's not my favourite of their studio albums (though good) - I think Ship of Fools may be my favourite track on there. Unfortunately I think the Mendoza Hoffs Revels may not be up my street from the evidence of the needle drop - love the artwork though. Nice to see your album is keeping good company behind you - and quite rightly so. All the best... Pete
