Canon Powershot ELPH 110 HS - a wonderful, cheap camera that shoots incredible video for something like this. A lot of daily vloggers use it (to figure this out, I frame-by-framed it when they walked by mirrors. Crazy? Yes.) But it's worth it. I highly recommend it.

I'm from Wyoming, I now live in San Francisco. I miss snow, and just open wilderness so much. Nature I didn't travel to, but was just around me all the time

it's the exact opposite for me, I live in the wooden/farm area and I yearn for the city/towns and the lights and convenience of not having to have a car to get places. On the bright side, I am now very accustomed to long car rides.

I can't really tell if they are in this video, but if the rocks around a stream or river are stained orange, do not go in the water!

Hitting a axe blade with a hammer to chop wood seems WAY more dangerous than cold water. It takes a while before hypothermia would actually take effect and if you get warmed up then you'll be fine. But if that axe blade could instantly chop a limb off or kill you.

Why?

Wait, you split wood with a hammer and a shim? Why not an axe? Because that is basically metal-on-metal contact. If the shim is made of iron it should be ok, but if both hammer and shim are made of steel then sooner or later one of them is going to fragment - and that can be fucking dangerous. Iron slowly bends - steel shows no wear but then suddenly fragments with force, which sends out little steel projectiles that can hit you. Happened to my grandpa once. One mistake we'll never make again.
