It’s already April. We are getting there. Man in June my life is gonna be so focused. That feeling of a new fromsoft. Nothing like it.

4:40 the symbol looks a lot like Siluria’s tree. The description of Siluria’s tree reads: “the primordial form of the erdtree is close in nature to life itself, and this spear, modeled on its crucible, is imbued with holy essence”. This makes me think that the takers cameo talisman represents the 2 headed snake “devouring” the crucible, or in other words, messmer setting the great tree ablaze in a distant past.

The right part of Taker's Cameo, looks like Siluria's Tree, which was modeled on its crucible. And crucible was the primordial form of the Erdtree. So it would match the meaning of devouring god, or snake betraying the Erdtree

Never put together that the Temple of Eiglay literally sounds like "Egg Lay" and the serpent's amnion is found there. Messmer snakes are probably decendants like Zorias.

I had the theory that the blasphemous snake was a shadow for the previous god before Marika, the snake being tied to the Land of Shadow and the Shadow of the Erdtree would make sense following that theory.

I think you could probably throw a dart at a map of the lands between and find a place that has some kind of deep significance for the DLC. Fromsoft likes their deep lore that much. And just as an example of this I would like to point out that the symbol of the takers Cameo looks like the cross guard of Saint Trina's sword. Specifically the lower half.

Now this is a video that I can actually get behind. It's not some overly long essay filled with people re-reading the same item descriptions 10 times. You straight up just say what you need to say. Thank you dude. Breath of fresh air when it comes to content like this. On top of that you don't piece together garbage that isn't related as if it were fact. Respect! Great vid.

The Godskin link is interesting. A Godskin Noble also guards the bridge to the Liurnia Divine Tower which is where Ranni’s body is found. Ranni rewarded Rykard with the Blasphemous Claw should he need to fight Maliketh. It makes me wonder how many demigods were conspiring in or knew of the plot to kill Godwyn and/or bring down the Erdtree.

I've also noticed on the virgin abductor frames you see the snakes that wrap around are actually connected on the back of the frame, making a possible reference to the this two-headed snake

The connection you made, between the Taker’s Cameo and The Duelling shied of the Shadow Lands, is incredibly awesome. But what really caught me off guard was the connection you made at 2:56. Coupled with the fact that the Temple of Eiglay is just FILLED with intriguing environmental storytelling (Solomonic columns, winged serpents, Godskin Noble, etc.), I really like your theory. Rykard is my favourite character in the game, and Volcano Manor and Mt. Gelmir is my favourite level. So this just makes me very happy

Remember that when Ranni leaves after you put the ring on her you can find Blaidd outside of her Rise with the corpse of some Black Knife Assassins beside him. And after you kill him, you tell Iji about it and after reloading Iji's spot he's also dead surrounded by BKA's and, most interestingly, burning in black flame. On the other hand, they're called "Godskin" but most people instantly assume they take the skin of gods they have slayed before, when it easily could be that they make their robes out of the skin shed by a Snake. The Godskin noble's robe is 'known' for their seven faced aprons, just like the candletree shield. We know the Lands Between have been through a lot of different ages throughout their history and they're apparently signified by the presence of the crucible, considering how the crucible was the "transition" between the dragonlord age and the erdtree age. So it's not crazy to think that this has been a constant cycle of decay and rebirth similar to the fire in Dark souls. In this regard I think that the burning of the Erdtree is the beginning of the end for all ages. And Messmer was most likely the one tasked with doing it, or perhaps the one who realized that the Golden Order stagnation would bring terrible consequences, and thus decided to burn the Erdtree down, forever cementing the snakes and fire as cardinal sins. The golden order absolutely did NOT want their age to end.

My theory is that Volcano Manor was in the far past actually Mesmers manor, explaining all the similarities, but was then given to Rhykard, probably some times after Mesmer was banished.

I'm glad a video creator finally picked up on the Gelmir symbol on the Dueling Shield! I noticed that when the trailer released, but nobody ever seemed to mention it in their trailer analyses. The connection between the Eiglay drapes and Messmer's tunic is interesting, and Messmer's eyes also match the God-Devouring Serpent's eyes, so that's probably worth looking at for an update video. Curiously, a snake is on the Twinned Set's cape, so that would be worth investigating as well, especially since the D twins are Golden Order Fundamentalists and thus one would think they'd hate snakes. As for Ghiza's armor, he's actually just wearing the Official's Attire, not something specifically tied to House Marais. Still, this is a nice video.

I think that the Gloam eyed queen may have more connection to Marika than we thought. It may be a stretch but the gloam eyed queen may be the woman in the painting. And considering that we have the theory that the woman is Marika’s mother it may be that Messmer has the recessive genes of the GEQ considering his similarities to the godskins.

Another cool thing about Volcano Manor is the trees outside the Church of Eiglay seem to have vines coiled around them, and the afflicted trees have cracks with gold inside. Kinda like mini versions of the great tree we see in the trailer.

just occured to me that similar to how we press the R3 to switch between the maps, we'll probably get a third "layer" for The Land of Shadow. Maybe where we fight Messmer will line up with where Mt. Gelmir exists in the over world. EDIT: just remmeber a comment i had left on an old video somewhere around when the game came out. The Snakemen and Godskin apostles have similar move sets, I wondered if this was just a reused animation asset but maybe its more 🤷‍♂️ The Land of Shadow is disconnected, but knowing From Soft, I feel like the locations will have some lore importance and links to nearby areas on the other maps.

My guess is that Marika's actions in the Land of Shadow are a result of the conflict with the Gloam-Eyed Queen. The announcement included a line about a land being purged in an unsung battle, set alight by Messmer's flame. Messmer is the Lord to the GEQ, the same way that Godfrey was Lord to Marika. Symbolically, this makes a lot of sense. The GEQ is the Marika foe most associated with serpents. You're 100% on point about the similarities between Messmer and the godskin apostles. It's also the conflict that led to Marika creating the Golden Order and radically changing how the world works. Finally, it's a carefully hidden part of the history of the Lands Between. But if I'm right, this makes an absolute mess of the timeline. Messmer appears to be a child of Radagon and Marika, but the Golden Order didn't even exist before the godskin apostasy. And also the flavor text makes it clear that the Land of Shadow is Marika's origin story, she was there *before* she was in the Lands Between. But many of the godskin servants are fire monks, an order that only came into existence after the conquest of the Lands Between. I'm curious to see how it plays out in June. Myths, especially the Norse myths that serve as a major inspiration for the Elden Ring lore, can play a bit fast and loose with time and causality. And of course, Miyazaki himself said that once The Lands Between and The Land of Shadow were one...

It surprises me nobody has talked about the Serpent’s Amnion, which is obtained after the battle with the Godskin Noble, which states that it’s an Amnion from a womb that wore an unintended offspring. If that doesn’t scream Messmer being the unwanted kid of Marika, and that they performed a ritual in the Lands of Shadows related to her godhood, idk what does.

When talking about the Volcano Manor, there was no better choice than the Magmoor Caverns theme. Interesting finds as well, especially with Taker's Cameo - with how small the icons are I never thought to look for big details in them.

also check Ringed Finger description - not only it is similar to Rykard's fingers as seen when he pulls the sword of his mouth in his second phase cutscene, but also refers to "ancient blasphemy" + it's found in Gelmir Hero's grave....

everything makes more sense if melina is merika's sister, and also the gloam eyed queen ... their names are even more similar in japanese (me-ri-na and me-ri-ka) this then leads to mesmer being the banished son of merika and linked to the smoldering butterfly ... bringing everything full circle assuming that he was banished for burning the erdtree

Second Phase of Messmer: Godskin Duo is summoned to fight alongside him...

1st place I went after DLC announcement was the volcano manor. The only thing I noticed were the portraits depicting the erd tree bruning. There is probably more as you have pointed out.

7:46 on one of my past playthroughs, I was fighting the Godskin Noble that guarded Ranni’s divine tower. It was raining and I noticed their skin looks a lot like Morgot’s blade.

The shape that mesmer serpents coil around him looks for me similar to border around talisman. Maybe thats how his great rune looks like

I prefer to be on standby until the dlc, to make any assumptions. Great work! I kinda think the sigil on taker's cameo/shield looks like the siluria spear. But another thing i find intriguing : at 6:07, eight behind the npc with a pot, there is a spiraling tower. Funny to see this right after you showed the Manor's interior with snakes coiling around columns

When the God-Skins have links to Messmer, it would also link the Gloam-Eyed Queen to Messmer and since the Gloam-Eyed Queen is/was almost certainly Melina, it would make perfect sense. Both are basically non existant in the history of Elden Ring by name. Melina is never mentioned (only as the Gloam-Eyed Queen) and the same thing with Messmer. Marika veiled both of their existances because they commited a cardinal sin. Its also stated that Maliketh defeated the Gloam-Eyed Queen (Melina). It makes it quite obvious what "burned and bodyless" means. The Rune of Death burned her physical body so she only exists in spirit.

I especially liked this video because it gives a new look at already known things in the game. If you look for common things between the Apostles and snakes, this is that the Snake sheds its skin and was believed to rejuvenate, which in many religions is considered immortal.

on taker's cameo(and painting behind lady tanith), rykards crown has the same fan(palm leaf) shape as the DLC throne lady's hat/crown has as well.

I recently went through Volcano Manor on my latest playthrough and I made similar observations.

I believe eochaid is in the shadow of the erdtree dlc she hid it making it vanish

the throne in the audience chamber in volcano manor looks like the one that messmer sits on in the DLC

I don’t know if this has been mentioned yet but played through again, and noticed something about Marika/Radagon cutscene. she is in fact very IMPALED by a red spike.

I did not see anyone entertain this idea that I have a long time for now and since it fits into the topic of this video I would like to share it. Tanith’s quest always felt unfinished for me, since the only ending for it is killing her for like no reason (other then get to fight her knight obv, but no narative reason) and there is the whole Rykard/Eiglay being immortal thing wich could be just Taniths delusion, but it might worth to have a dlc ready save where Tanith is still alive, I think there is a good chance that it would get expended, wouldnt be the first quest in the game getting this treatment.

I feel there's a connection between either Zoraya or Melina to Messmer. That either Zoraya or Melina is also Messmer and/or the gloam eyed queen is their mother. My best guess is Melina and Messmer are the same person and the gloam eyed queen is their mother.

Volcano manor was maybe the manor of Messmer before Marika put him in the shadow lands. She probably didn't care that the god serpent influenced Messmer until it was too problematic for her order. She let her own son getting manipulated by a serpent to help her fight the giants and others, but the moment the tree was burned, she understands her mistake and banned him.

Haha, just found those out this weekend on my own and was wondering why nobody noticed these, as for the flying serpent statue, it's probably eiglay which i suspect was the GEQ's god that fled. Mesmer probably wrapped himself up in that iconolography much later , i'd suspect after defeating the fire giants

It would be cool if there was more development of volcano manor in the DLC just for the fact it didn't seem super fleshed out in the base game. You kill three NPCs from taniths quest and then kill rykard. It would be cool if there was an ending where you become lord of blasphemy

If you look at the hat in the cuckoo sanctum(DLC preview)where that lady is who is in the “Carian Inverted Statue” her hat has the Godskin’s symbol on it. Scouring Blackflame item is an item description worth looking at too

Whoever caught those two symbols being the same - that is a really sharp, good eye. I have had feelings about Messmer and his connections to blasphemy, perhaps an “original sin”, for quite some time and I’m thinking it’s got to be a story point in the DLC. I don’t particularly see the same connection to the Godskins as everyone else does, but I’m open to them being part of the picture too. Miyazaki describes Messmer as a hero in one of the interviews; I wonder if Messmer is the “hero” who defeated the Gloam Eyed Queen. Either that, or it’s going to be completely unrelated to anything we’ve speculated and involve new characters entirely and we will be hopelessly wrong. 😅 there’s always that possibility

Also the connection of the symbol being on the DLC duelling shield is interesting. I wonder if we'll find Crucible Knights using different weapons in the DLC

Mesmer does not represent the pinnacle of the Elden Ring, as everyone was vying to become. He represents the WHOLE thing. Every aspect in equal measure.

Can't remember where I saw this, but apparently there's cut enemy data in the game files for Gelmir Knights. They were supposed to use the Distinguished Greatshield, and the symbol on the Distinguished Greatshield looks like the head of Messmer's spear.

When Miyazaki said the main game wasn’t going to be connected to the dlc (forgot exactly how he stated it) I was bummed that none of the quests with open ends were going to have a closing to their story (Tannith, Jerren, others I can’t remember). Seeing this thumbnail gives me hope. E: And after watching I hope we get some more clarification on the GEQ. I’m so ready for this DLC I’m going to lose my f’ing mind if they push it back.

It just dawned on me. The Godskin Apostle stretches like the serpent men. The Manor could have first belonged to the GEQ. She could have turned Messmer over to her side.

So maybe the Serpent was the original god of the lands between before Marika and the Erdtree came from the land of shadow

You know what i just realized? The arm hanging out of the egg in Mohgs boss room looks similar to Messmirs lanky body. And snakes lay eggs to which the arm is hanging out of... Do you think there's something there?

Personally, I think the Godskin Noble in Volcano Manor is there in search of the Serpent God. As servants of the Gloam Eyed Queen, they searched out gods and killed them. He's there looking for the Serpent God, in order to kill him. Tanith (by the way Tanith is named after Tanith Lee, one of George RR Martin's favorite authors, and the lore about Rya/Zorayas being unsure of her heritage, and that her father/mother is actually some sort of monster/tyrant that she had no control over, ties in to Tanith Lee's Flat Earth series) definitely seems to be from the Land of Shadow, which is why ske has a crucible knight guarding her, since the Land of Shadow is the last remaining bastion of the Crucible Age. If the lore remains consistent, then Messmer is the child of Radagon, which raises the question, who is the mother? It could be Marika, but all the children of Radagon and Marika are cursed in some way or another.

1:55 the winged snake statues actually seem to be a part of an architectural pattern of such statues the Hawks in Stormveil, The Winged Bats in Academy of Raya Lucaria, and the winded Serpents of Mt Gelmir I don't think there's anything to be implied or taken from that, just found it interesting personally

Still think that Tanit's questline with castanets have secret true ending, which have really hard triggering

There are some similarities between the Drake Knight set (worn by Eleanora, Violet Bloody Finger) and the armor worn by Messmer. She has also taken part in Dragon Communion, as you noted Messmer may have by the look of his eyes. I'm wondering if Eleanora's role as a violet bloody finger could mean that 1. Messmer is in fact the alter ego of Miquella 2. Eleanora became a bloody finger, siding with Mogue, after Miquella's cocoon was taken from the Haligtree This is all obviously VERY loose speculation, but just some things I've found interesting

It says “long ago , when Rykard first set eyes on Tanith, she was working as a dancer in a foreign land.” [consort’s robe description] So Rykard went to this “foreign land” perhaps talking about where the DLC will be taking place ? Maybe meeting Messmer in the past influencing him to become lord of blasphemy ? Also i think Tanith will somehow come back in play for the DLC, not sure what but she def wasn’t eating rykards remains for no reason lol. I hope we get more lore on the land of Eochaid as well.

I happen to be a huge fan of fromsoft have been since around 2018 when I first played BB then played the rest! Even if I wasn’t though I’d still respect them because they created pretty much their own genre & continuously expand upon it with every release! I can’t wait for the expansion it’ll most likely end up being the greatest story expansion ever created honestly!
