I had the privilege of conducting an insightful interview with Mr. Ashish Gupta at the highly anticipated VW Annual Brand Conference 2024. During our discussion, we delved into various aspects of Volkswagen's innovative ventures and strategic initiatives.
One highlight of our conversation was the unveiling of Polo, Volkswagen's latest electric vehicle. Mr. Gupta provided valuable insights into the development process, highlighting its significance in the company's commitment to sustainability and technological advancement.

In the interview, the CEO is so adamant that "vw is a global brand, vw is that , vw is this. Vw can't design cars specifically for India" . I feel this is too much of inflated ego. Other global brands have bought out India centric cars, but this company can't? Foolish

So what are Taigun and Virtus then? They are India centric cars, they don’t sell these models in EU. I don’t know what you heard. Watch video again and listen carefully what he is saying. They said like global vw cars we are trying to provide premium end of segment to customer. They won’t drop shitboxes for sake of sales and low prices.

Sorry with 2 ICE products for 10years. VW won’t be able to sustain. They have to bring india centric Polo to sustain. Even in EV when they bring Polo EV in 2027, JSW - MG (who will bring EVs, PHEV’s from next year) will be long gone. To counter this their ICE portfolio should have been strong.

I20 in the UK length is 4065mm New polo in UK length is 4075mm If Hyundai can make the i20 under 4m VW surely can. But they don't want to.

Mr.Ashish Gupta , Companies and Brand sustain on aligning with whats customer need and requirement, Not on what company thinks they want to be and Expect customers to align to their strategy and vision, Motorola and Nokia met the fate for basking in their past glory instead of being relevant. So Skoda VAG should stop wagging their EGO and Past glory ... and align to market and Customer expectations ...else India will reamin Just a manufaturing Hub for VW....

I definitely agree with this point, sooner or later they will release some half baked product when the entire segment comes to an end and expect us to make a run for it. As a polo owner i had huge expectations but all in vain. Mr. Ashish is adamant with what VW thinks and as a brand director he doesn't have his own take into VW, he cant even convince his team. Are we being down played while the rest of the segment moves on.

The only one to blame here is Govt. policies. 4 Meter law, 100% import duty etc etc can't have good cars in reasonable price. btw so good to see Mr. Ashish Sir, they way he replied and was smiling. You won't see other brand director to laugh in an interview ever. 😃

You know People are waiting for Polo, but you are saying will be getting it in some form.. then where are you listening to Customers? See ADAS is something related to safety that VW group has in it's DNA -'Safety', I don't understand why it has to be a trend for them to introduce.

Aur tier 2 city mein dunno keh service network badh chuka hai.. VW, skoda already bol chukke hai ki Jab 4m car ayegi(nexon rival) tab service network automatically bad jayegi... Bas yehi bolte reh gaye, sir very difficult this is not possible that is not possible. 2 saal me bas 2 gadiyan aur bas jumle reh gaye. Vw ne kuch launch nahi kiye 3 gadiyon k baad. Localisation kyun nahi karte. Why don't you expand your manufacturing plants. Abhi k liye nahi ye kabhi launch hi nahi karne wale polo. Vw agent confirmed that. VW India Management : we are worried about the Creat N line. They stole our thunder in the hatch segment with the i20 NLine. We escaped moving out of the segment entirely. We just got into this segment. We cannot move out without failing for at least 10 years. VW India Product Strategy : Simple sir. We do what we did in the hatch segment. Another limited/ special edition with some smoking, blacking, piping and caliper painting. Someone is bound to buy this new version Someone saner : perhaps given our history in rally nd motorsport we should put together some version that showcases our strength in performance. Afterall we have the Golf GTI variants globally with great cred. VW Management: I like the new limited/special edition idea that is a tried and tested to fail approach. Customers demand high quality products. Currently all made in India VW/Skoda has degraded it's quality which has discouraged customers to buy vw/Skoda. (There are also other reasons for low vw/Skoda sales). Doesn't seems vw/Skoda are really customer oriented in India

Very true, maintain the same standard as previous cars. People will definitely buy even it's bit pricey from other products. They degraded the quality wear & tear of parts are increasing with in a year of purchase. We have a Whatsapp group of Skoda Owners who are experiencing many issues on regular basis. Why can't the management fix on these take feedback from forums like Twitter/Instagram & RU-vid and work on the improvements. Until that it's gonna sell in 2k-3k on monthly or it might reduce as well.

I was a Polo owner before and now a Tiguan owner now. Love the brand. But unfortunately VW doesn't have a flagship global product in India. VW Touareg could be introduced as a FBU first and then as a CKD with a target price of 65-70 Lacs. We get the legendary V6 335 HP at a great price point. It will help VW India to position itself as truly premium brand.

VW Taigun is a good car but lacks updated features and comparatively far behind their competitors in the same segment, looking for a good facelift with updated features in future Personal Wishlist : 1. 6 Airbags standard for all variants 2. Better build quality specially the sun roof liner and the rear wiper 3. Improved infotainments 4. Design change to the front bumper, sides and rear but stick to the VW theme of simplicity 5. Plug in hybrid ( other cars in the segments are already catching here) 6. Possible a diesel option( maybe help expand to more customers) 7. Keep the price level reasonable even after a facelift update

Taigun size should be reduced by 200 mm or increase it by 200mm its misfit in the Indian market, its niether small nor large, in both the segment it will rock in sub 4 metre, and in seltos, Creta segment

Truth is hyundai/kia ne sabko bigaad diya hai..aajakl sbko features, gimmicks chahiye Koreans k paas india-korea free trade aggreement hai bass usi ka fayda utha rhe hai.. Baaki brands same price pr ye sab nhi de sakte isiliye price badh rhi hai year by year ya to wo apne Usp's k upar sell ho rhe hai.. But avg indian customer wants gimmicks and features..

Koi bigaad nahi rakha bhai... Gaadi chala rahe ho toh thoda premium lagna v chahiye.. free trade hi ya kuch v ho jis price point me mil Raha hai koi brand ko bolo dede.. phir wo v bikne lagegi... @@SunderdeepSingh Paaji what are you saying. Hyundai Motor Group is is the world's third-largest carmaker now, only falling behind Toyota and Volkswagen. In a matter of 20 years they moved from 14th position to No.3. Have you seen their present global line up of cars. Can any brand without R & D achieve this feat. At this pace can you imagine what will be the positioning of Hyundai in the next 10 years. Hyundai have a vision and strategy and they are working hard in the right direction. It will not be a surprise they will selling their products in India at a premium surpassing other brands. Instead of asking VW to improve on their deficiencies, you are criticizing about other brands.

Bhai ye sirf cosmetic change krke taigun launch kri h sport edition i feel it is not worth. Despite of cosmetic change kuch important feature add krne chahiye the like 360 camera, 4 disc brakes, and a very good quality sound system like bose or harman, panoramic sunroof, suspension upgrade. Unke saath ye cosmetic update chal jata.

He said that he is working on the feedbacks.. really??? MQB-A0-IN platform was a move based on feedback, but these cosmetic changes are just the reflection of " I have given what you demanded, now don't ask for more". And if they are positioning themselves as a premium segment, then be happy with whatever miniscule sales you have. Even Honda with Elevate has launched the car with required use-case based features which is why it is getting fair response.

The Compact SUV form of the Polo is the Taigun. MQB A0 platform, with IN representing a longer wheelbase to make it lengthier. Globally, it is called the T-Cross with the same length as the Polo (4.1m). I'm actually surprised Skoda is going for a sub-4m raised hatchback on the same platform - I believe it will be the MQB A0 platform of the shorter wheelbase variant. Personally, making two similar cars (raised hatchbacks) on the same platform makes little sense to me. But then traditionally, European companies have not relied on sense when making decisions.

Disappointed with the event. I dont understand.. how do they plan 2 survive with just 2 ICE products in the mass market? I mean ID2 EV is 2-3 years away. That also will be under threat, due to fastmovers like JSW - MG Tie up etc. (They are planning to bring plug in hybrids, EVs in India next year) where as VW are doing paint/sticker jobs. It’ll make so much sense to have a Polo Loaded at 13 ex showroom for the volume perspective and for their sustainability. I don’t see taigun sustaining numbers with paint jobs.

Crisp n precise questions asked Sundarji. I really like this person Mr. Ashish Gupta. He is so well aligned with VW brand. He presents VW strategies n thought process so well that I feel keep listening to him. Clear cut communication. Very perfect words are used being a brand face. Possible hai to hai nahi to nahi. He will definitely put VW on the top in India. This is called leadership. I became his fan !

People - try to understand, the role of this person is highly responsible. He is a person who have to maintain a brand name , increase sales, improve customer base, their trust, align with top management, keep employees motivated. Don't mind sirji, it's a bit disappointment of the questions which has been asked from your end. Power windows, 360 degree camera & 6 airbags as standard. Why can't these basic they are unable to provide. You mentioning these paint jobs as upgrades doesn't make sense. These doesn't attract new customers. Seriously disappointed as a customer, if they would have considered consumer feedback these basic things should atleast has been provided.

Internet mein hi bolte ho ki kharidoge fir jab lene ki baari aati hai vw ki car toh bolte ho ki bohot mehengi hai,maintenance zyada hai,etc. and end mein Kia pia , MS ki gaadiya kharidlete ho🙃

As a brand I am not sure what VW is thinking. Customer clearly want certain features in their cars when they are looking to buy a top spec variant and which certainly stands out. The positioning they are trying to create for themselves in a competitive market such as India doesn't exist. I hope they come to their senses and do a sub 4 metre car in addition to having 360 degrees camera, front parking sensors and level 2 Adas. I myself drive a Virtus but the lack kf front parking sensor really impacts my judgement while parking on blind spots. I hope they bring in this much from their base models at least.

Sunder ji... Which one is better as all in one value for money package.... Tucson vs tiguan. Tucson offers premium feeling with some extraordinary n luxurious features. Service center are readily available Tiguan offers AWD n vw brand,lack of touch points though Also 4x4 diesel is only offered in Tucson Tiguan has powerful petrol engine,looks n feels bit dated tbh Is Tucson a good car under 40-45lks Or tiguan is good??

Completely agree with VW / Skoda business strategy. Sir, these so called enthusiast only buy cars like polo, punto , octavia vrs only from used market. they dont buy these first hand. When they want to buy new cars they go for XUV, creta, i20, harrier , seltos and after that they say VW and skoda are not launching new products for our enthusiatic needs. NOT all people but most of them love cars like Octavia but buys only used one. But if they want to spend 30 - 35 lacs they go for XUV700, safari, tucson. After deeply studying the India market VW is Providing cars like T Roc, Kodiaq in very limited numbers. Those are very high class products which Indian market cannot understands right now. VW is giving the products which India market deserves. Otherwise if they start selling as per their supplies, which is full of amazing products, they have to shut down its business like ford. I guess they have brilliant engineering and research team that they alter and produce specific procuts for Indian market like kushq , salavia, virtus and taigun

Honestly as a taigun owner was not really impressed with what was launched, vw really needs to update the car in terms of features such as adas and 360 camera and need to take a stand rather than just playing catch up and talking about a hatchback under 4m , if skoda can do it by developing a Suv why is vw not able to create that being a parent brand to skoda ,they need to capture the sub 15 lakh market in order to make there presence felt

Hello, Mr. Ashish! 1)Taigun, Virtus is no longer a premium offering in the segment, considering the competition. (You contradict yourself by saying a premium product, but position below par products in the mass market CSUV segment) 2) If VW really cares about the customer, most importantly improve the after sales service. (There is no way to raise issues with VW management, as everything gets routed to dealership.) 3) Adding new stickers is not a facelift these days. Open eyes to the Market and see the competition. Ford made the same exact mistakes

Polo was discontinued coz of poor sales. Swift/Baleno/I20are still selling from 15-20 years. New polo will be priced over 15 lakh. UK variant is 22-30 lakh rs in indian currency. But I20 Nline is also 22 lakh in indina currency. Polo shd be Made in india as per indian conditions.

They're clearly saying they have moved the brand position to the premium end of the segment VW operates in. Forget Polo, it's not coming to India. Even if they want to bring it over here the price will not make any sense and they'll haave to cancel the plan.

Vw will fail in india & close down. They don't know what indians want they have no idea about the Indian market. The taigun is too small it's not an suv but a hatchback but the price is comparable to Scorpio N a large 7 seater suv. While something like a tiguan is 35 lakhs where one can get the likes of safari xuv 700 top models for 10 lakh less which have more features & more powerful engine. Tata also offer strong build & 5 star safety. Vw logo is not a bmw logo or a mercedes logo even virtus sales will slow down as people will get a top model 7 seater suv with adas panaromic sunroof at that cost. Vw needs to make virtus more premium & better equipped and they need to make an suv like Kodiaq or tiguan allspace at the proce of 25 lakh on road top model which they will never be able to do which mahindra & tata can. Only option is bring a polo to compete with swift Baleno & i20 at the price of max 10 lakh top model with sunroof ambient lights wireless charging android apple car play 360 parking everything that hyundai offers in their top variant
