In this video I demonstrate how to rebuild a Volvo Penta TAMD 31 Diesel raw water pump. This is a revised version showing how the pump can be mounted upside down.
Hello, thank you very much for your video. It is a video in which you explain perfectly how to replace the parts of the salty pump. Greetings from Spain.
Got to do one of these tomorrow, I am sure i could work it out myself, but it is much easier having a decent instructional video to follow, subscribed keep them coming.
Looking at the shop manual I think the pump with the thicker housing is the new one. The shop manual page 45 for the KAD 300 at least says the early pump has the removable cam and the later has the insert wear plate in the rear. My pump is the heavier housing with no cam screw and has a replaceable end plate
Great as Im just about to do the same job. Would have been good to see how the bearing as pressed off the shaft but I assume the longer end of the shaft was pressed down and not the slotted end
What a great video! I kept having to rebuild my Oberdorfer water pump on my Universal diesel motor while cruising in the Bahamas. My only issue wasn’t having a press to remove and install the shaft. Would you have any suggestions for someone without a press. I ended up buying new pumps when they started to leak which was costly. Great video and thank you again for your time to put this together and share it!
@@tedsmarinerepair8956 Thanks for the reply. I agree with the press as being the best option. My thoughts were how to accomplish this in some remote area without the press being available. Sleeping on it last night, I came up with the idea of a couple of plates on either end with large mouth C clamps. It was hard to find the right tooling when sailing in some areas. Regardless, thanks for your time and efforts to educate us via RU-vid. I appreciate it! Oh one more question for you since you know so much about Volvos. The ONLY plate that I find on my 1984 Volvo MD30A is a single line with “NO 2035”. In your experience with older diesels like these, is there any remote possibility that this is the serial number? The local dealer doesn’t think so, but even the documentation from Sweden under serial number says “2035”. I’ve managed to find an online link to MD30A parts and the diagrams are exactly as I see so I think I’m okay. I’m wanting to purchase a paper shop manual and parts manual if possible.
To the earlier questions on the subject, how would you recommend this be done without a press? Asking for those of us in remote places without a press.
thanks for the video. Helps a lot since I do have the same engine. Are you aware that you have one scene in the footage that is in twice? The part with putting back in the second bearing.
@@tedsmarinerepair8956 No worries. I like the detail level of the video. I just had to watch this part twice since I thought that there was another bearing in the pump. And then I realised it was the same scene twice ;-)
Hi, I have leakage on my injection bosch pump , on engine Volvo penta AQD 40 A, I would like to remove my pump and send to autorized service and later put back, but I am not complety sure how. Especially how to set timming pins and other thing to pump works properly. Is possible to make some videos about that. You can make video on similar engine -big thanks if is possible
I'm replacing my kad43p volvo raw water pumps. The drive couplers were cracked so I replaced those. I can't see to line them up when I'm putting them back in. I think I got them started, but I had to use the bolts to get it all the way in. I'm worried that they may be just forced in wrong. Do you put the couplers in on their own first then push the shaft in?
Install the coupler onto the engine shaft and then turn the pump shaft until it lines up with the receiving coupling. It should slide into position without much effort.
