That was one of the best how-to videos on brakes, seals and bearings I've ever seen and I watch a TON of these videos! It's going in my how-to library for sure. Thank you!
There should only be a total of two flexi brake hoses at the rear, not three. Both rear flexi hoses connect to a hard line going to the brass union. Won't cause any harm leaving it as is though.
Excellent video CT :) on Brake resivor jug new one on copper line before put rubber on did have flare then put clamp ring so won't leak and with black steel line flare too plus clamp ring too ! You can check and make sure didn't need to or should be ! Just so won't leak that why ask you said instructions or heard should be !
Great video ct! If that reservoir doesn’t have a flared end you should flare it or at least clamp on the rubber so you don’t have fluid leaking I also believe you are supposed to slide the master cylinder rubber onto the line all the way down to the end then press it in but the way you done it might work great work look forward to seeing it drive down the road
That leftover line you have is for the brass T to the drivers rear - it shouldn't have two consecutive rubber hoses. Noticed that car has a 65 only horn button, and there is no way a ball joint beam will physically fit on a kingpin chassis ( unless they changed the frame head). I say that it's a 66.
Hi! This seems to be a start of another VW Beetle project! But I really would like to know what has become of the Beetle buildup project of last year! If everything had gone well, it should be finished by now. All the best!
Always replace everything that can kill you if it doesn’t work. Brakes and steering. If you incorrectly rewired your radio or your heater core you’re probably OK.
The beetle is a 65/66 model. The 1964 was the last of the "T" handle on the decklid, King Pins, upright quarter glass and also the smaller windows. Your beam looks right for the year (Link as opposed to King Pin) but the securing nuts may have been replaced with a allen key nut from a later model. Common modification and actually better in my view! Great build, keep up the good work!
@@bava67 absolutely and my mistake (brain switched off!). The car also has a wheel from a '67 1500cc beetle as well, replacement as a result of the accident?
I don't have a torque wrench, but I've got an Ugga Dugga. Lol! @CT you need to look into using Evaporust for those parts you wan to reuse. Super cheap game changer.
Missed the step of cleaning the backing plate! before transferring parts...Also the best parts in these kind of videos are cleaning the rust and bleeding brakes...make sure you have that in the upcoming videos defenitely gonna crack the views for sure!...we missed it in this video boss!
Only mistake I noticed was drivers side back brake hose install at around 23 min. You have 2 soft lines installed. It should be hard line from t-junction to brake hose holder and not second flex line. From holder in frame to to second holder in axle tube soft line and from there to wheel cylinder hard line again, like in passenger side. Also think that the car is not -64. 64 should have still smaller windows/thicker window posts. I think it's -66. This can be verified from VIN. if it's -64 it starts with 9 and is shorter than after -65. In 1965 VIN changed, then it will start with 115... third number indicates year model. 116 would be -66, 117 -67 and so on.
@@CTmoog Nice. The ball joint front beam came in 1966. So someone has changed the frame head. Because the torsion tubes are in different positions in King Pin axle and ball joint axle. They cannot be swiched unless you replace the the frame head.
great video CT but FFS champ put some stands under the car.....i was grimacing every time you were working on the car....just looking out for ya....all the best from Sydney Oz 🍻🍻🍻
@@bava67 I go to like 930 and 230 and they dont leak. get that seam laid over about as far as you can to 90 but not quite. to keep that seam from making the bottom stretch.
Thank you! =) The front bearings get packed with grease. The rear bearings get gear oil from the transmission. It travels down the axle and lubes the rear wheel bearings. I put a small amount of oil on them when I was reassembling so they have a little bit the get started. When I fill the transmission with gear oil to the correct level it will travel down the axle tubes to the bearings.
🎉ottimo video ,ottimo lavoro.
Hey, quick question - what did you find out about the placement of the springs on the front shoes? I understand that the mounting plates were different but before you swapped the hardware over you had noticed that either the springs on the one that you rebuilt or the originals on the car were backwards. I noticed that you didn't change your orientation before you installed it so I am just assuming that you confirmed that you had it right to begin with. Is that what happened? And I also wanted to say that I truly appreciate your videos. I used to live in South Florida where i was quite an avid Volkswagen lover since the late '80s. I moved back up home to Central Illinois and I expanded my VW history as far as to have a chop top 70 beetle and a sand rail on a Chenowith frame with a 1641 scat motor. As of right now, all I have to do with Volkswagens is a plethora of memories and a cool VW tattoo. Watching all of your videos really takes me back because I can see myself doing these exact same jobs again. Thank you so much for sharing these videos with us and i look forward to watching more as you move along!
Dear CT, are you sure that it is the correct front axle? As you said it I wrote it... Isn't the frame head different before and after 1966? Maybe a bit too personally, but what ist the chassisnumber of this "64"? Maybe they changed the frame after an accident or because of rust.... Best regards from Good Old Germany
the reservoir line needs to have specific 5mm Brake hose or it will leak all the fluid out. They charge by the inch and it is not cheap. It is Blue or Green. with cloth on it.
Wait you are doing it wrong. You are supposed to take the whole car apart and then find another car and take that one apart and let them both sit while you start on another one 😂
The spindle nut is correct for the 64-65 year car does it have kingpins or ball joints holding the front wheel spindles on up to 66 it should be kingpins and after 67 ball joints
