I’m posting all the rules questions from Hall of Heroes so you don’t have to keep up with them!
13 - Hi, about SHE-HULK “Superhuman Strength”
Forced Response: After She-Hulk attacks, discard Superhuman Strength → stun the attacked enemy.
ruling 1.5: Cost […] - An ability’s cost cannot be paid if that ability’s effect requires one or more targets and there is not at least one valid target.
If SHE-HULK with “Superhuman Strength” attacks and defeat an enemy the sentence “stun the attacked enemy” seems to have no valid target so, did the “Superhuman Strength” is discarded?
same question if SHE-HULK attacks a already stunned enemy?
To answer your question(s):
No, Superhuman Strength would not be discarded in either instance.
The main reason being, under the updated entry for “Forced” in the rules reference, we have made a ruling stating that if a forced ability requires a valid target but there is no valid target, the ability does not initiate. If an attacked enemy left play before the Forced Response on Superhuman Strength triggered, there is no valid target for the ability, so nothing happens. It’s similar if the enemy is still in play but cannot be stunned (e.g. because it’s already stunned); the Forced Response does not initiate.

I have been playing with a MarvelCDB deck that abuses this ruling and it's the best thing ever. This truly resurrected She-Hulk

It really really is. This seriously makes her better. You still have to be careful when playing attack events, but just this rule alone makes me want to get her out soon!

Used her protection deck that abuses this ruling to help beat Expert Loki the other day. I was able to basic attack a Stalwart Loki 5 times in one turn for 40 damage. Limitless Stamina and the protection cards leading blow and what doesn't kill me really send She hulk to the next level.

Haha that’s just nuts. So rare to have a ruling change someone this significantly!

Right? This is not an insignificant thing lol. Now you don’t have to avoid attacking a minion so you don’t waste it. And instead she can crush minions so easily!

The new rulings are pretty nice with stuff like this, but kinda annoying in other cases like not being able to chose to deal yourself damage if you have a tough status card, or the jean grey rule where u cant recover to get power counters at full health.

Drop Kick time baby! Get the kicker, you'll stun the villain, won't trigger the response, and can then get a basic attack without triggering it either!

I'm wondering if that's correct what you said. Card says when she attacks not after damage is dealt. This game is replacing MTG for me and thing like that make it confusing. Also if the enemy is stuned it doesn't mean he cannot be a valid target for a stun. He will not get second stun but still could be a target. Unless there is a rule that makes target not valid to put the same condition no him when he is stunned or confused or has tough on him. If this is true than I don't think you can play Mockingbird if an enemy has a stun on him.
@GetUpandGame
@GetUpandGame 6 месяцев назад
Correct, there is a rule that an enemy isn’t a valid target for a status that they are already currently under. So if She Hulk attacks someone with a stun status with Superhuman strength in play, since they aren’t a valid target then you can’t trigger the effect so you don’t pay the cost of discarding it! And you can still play Mockingbird because her ability is a Response, and those are optional 👍
@digitalmonkegt
@digitalmonkegt 6 месяцев назад
Cool I'm starting to get it a little. So response is optional but forced response isn't?? So superhuman strength is not optional to resolve. It has to be discarded after an attack and than if it resolved or not would be optional?? 1. It stunes attacked enemy if it can or 2. Enemy dies and there is no target for stun so it doesn't resolve or 3. Target is stuned so it is illegal to stun so it doesn't?? It's hard for me to get some of that stuff commming from MTG since there was always a difference between cost and actually what a card does. So I can not play a card if it has optional cost in description and I can't pay it or there is no legal target for it. But I can play a card and it may just not resolve. For example if a card deals damage and stunes a minion I still can play a card even if I kill it. Stun is just not gonna trigger since there is no valid target for it but it is not a cost to play a card (not required to be played). I'll try to get to my thinking with capt Marvel's Cosmic flight. It says prevent 3 of that damage. If she hulks doesn't lose supernatural strength since the enemy cannot be stuned in all of those conditions does capt Marvel doesn't lose car Cosmic flight and doesn't prevent any damage if it's lower than 3?? It doesn't say to prevent up to 3. So if it is 2 it doesn't trigger so you don't lose it?? Edit: capt Marvel looks like it's a hero interrupt so it may or may bot be triggered. So can it only be triggered if there is at least 3 damage no less??
@GetUpandGame

@@digitalmonkegt sounds like you’ve got it! Basically in order to initiate an ability you have to have a valid target/satisfy its timing requirement (in the case of responses and interrupts), and be able to pay its cost. So in the case of Cosmic flight, the timing requirement is that she is taking damage, the cost is discarding Cosmic Flight, and then the ability is that it prevents 3 of that damage. Since preventing the 3 damage is part of the ability and not the cost, it’s ok if it does less than what it says. As long as you can do some of the ability, you’re allowed to initiate it. A cost has to be paid in full, but the ability just needs to have some amount of effect Another example is the Protection event What Doesn’t Kill Me. As part of its cost you have to heal 2 damage, and then its ability is that it readies your hero. Since it’s an Action it can be played any time on your turn, so the timing is easy. But part of the cost is that you have to heal 2 damage. So if you don’t have at least 2 damage to heal then you can’t play it. And then its ability is that it readies you. So you have to be exhausted in order to play it. So you can’t play it just to heal 2 if you’re ready, and you can’t play it to ready you if you aren’t damaged for at least 2. The cost must be paid, and the effect must do something. And then of course in the case of Forced Responses and Interrupts, they always happen when their timing trigger takes place, it’s not optional. Superhuman Strength is kind of a special case in that it’s ability has a chance to fail without a valid target, so its cost might not be able to be paid. But I think that’s the only one like that
@digitalmonkegt
@digitalmonkegt 6 месяцев назад
I'm starting to get some of that. Looks like they just didn't want to add to much text on cards so they made a lot of rulings for the abilities and triggers and they just carry over to other cards as they make them. Also looks like they change some cards to clarify them as they reprint?? Like removing (thwart) from cards?? I just don't get how is forced response not triggered. Even if target is illegal. It triggers in condition that happened. Looking at superhuman strength I think it should be response or maybe even action?? I just have a core set so I'm just getting into the game;) That's why I've a lot of goofy questions:P
@GetUpandGame
@GetUpandGame 6 месяцев назад
@@digitalmonkegt not goofy at all! These are good questions. Plus coming from a game like Magic can sometimes make things tricker when things don’t work like you’re used to Yeah basically there are robust rules in place for how Actions, Responses, and Interrupts work so once you get those down the cards all work the way they’re meant and you’d expect. There are corner cases of course because it’s a card game but generally the rules are very solid In the case of Superhuman Strength not triggering, it’s really a casualty of the newer Valid Targeting rules. If that card were written today I’m sure it would work a little differently. But they’ve been very clear that if a card doesn’t have a valid target then its ability cannot initiate. They’ve told us to read the ability, and if it can’t be triggered then you don’t pay the cost in the first place. It’s one of those weird corner cases I mentioned. And it’s quite nice as it gives She Hulk a much needed power boost. Being able to take out a minion and keep Superhuman Strength in play makes that card much much better, as it was somewhat underpowered before And yeah occasionally they’ll errata cards like in the case of Superhuman Law Division. Since it’s a Support it should never have had the Thwart label in the first place so they were just fixing a mistake from the early days.
