Waiting for spring (& other future events)

Spring is around the corner (surely), and yet.... It's decidedly not here. Humans and nature are both in a state of limbo here right now.
So much is happening around the world, and it seems almost careless or flippant to air thoughts like these. But so much is always happening in the world. How on Earth do we balance compassion for people struggling while at the same time managing our own existence? I think it may be one of our most important tasks. But as this is not a news channel, my perspective will inevitably be personal, but hopefully not (too) myopic. My wish is to connect in some small way, create a little space, a brief moment, where you can simply sit and ... be.
I'm sure I'm not the only one whose heart goes out to everyone who suffered during the recent horrible earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, and continually to the brave people of Ukraine. I send you all my best wishes and my hopes that you're managing whatever is in your lives right now. Much love, Helle.

Only God, who brings us that beautiful nature, can bring us true peace and joy. I thank God every day when I pick up my knitting and am able to create something beautiful.

Hello and Thank you for taking the time to share your insights. I have spent a good part of my morning peacefully knitting and watching quite a few of your lovely videos. I have found you to be such a calm and inspiritng presence and truly a kindred spirit. The world has so many tragic and tramautic events happening and I myself have suffered a great personal loss that pervades my existance and while we cannot ignore these things, we cannot immerse ourselves in them either for that robs us of the good that is present in the now. We must find and immerse ourselves in the little comforts and joys of now-while we wait for a better moment in time because perhaps that moment won't come as we imagined it and in fact we look back on that waiting time as the good time (we did not fully appreciate). It is not flippant or careless to focus on the good in our lives - it is of the upmost importance. Thank you for bringing me creative inspiration through your knitting and soulful inspiration through your beautiful insights. And even though it is a dreary windy grey day here in Connecticut - I will get myself outside and listen to the birds for a few minutes while i search for signs of spring. Blessings to you.

Oh wow, what a lovely and insightful comment, I was nearly tearing up there 🤍 It’s nice to know that there are people out there (in Connecticut, which I want to visit some day), who make the world a kinder, more peaceful place. Much love to you 💞

16 March,' 23- Found your channel through my passion for knitting. I am putting away my TREE while I listen to you. First it is for Yule,Christmas, then less the colored lights and ornaments, it has all white- lights paper snowflakes ,clear stars and then in February > pink heart lights, paper hearts join in and a few "Easter/Spring" eggs, some 60 year heirlooms from Gramma... today though it feels TIME. TREE has sustained me through the dark, wet long winter, along with fire in the hearth and knitting, books, music... and today>> Housecleaning Day... the Spring sun shining more brightly now (our latitude equinox is just two days away!) I put it away with deep thanks and turn to nurture all the infant plants on dining table to get them ready for the GARDEN! Thanks for these lovely musings. They nurture deeper Presence.

Helle, There is so much wisdom in what you say throughout this video. I loved the parable about the fisherman and the tourist... and so many other moments. Wishing you peace with your sorrow. We all have 'something' that tempers our joy, but perhaps that is what makes the sweet moments feel so sacred.

I really enjoyed this video!! I live in the Omaha, Nebraska, and I was walking out dog a couple of weeks ago and saw about a dozen robins. I thought spring must be coming early, but my hopes were dashed last Thursday when we received six inches of snow and the weatherman has predicted more snow this Thursday. I’m in my late seventies and practiced yoga for about 16 years. A book my yoga teacher lent me a few years ago was a fun read and you might enjoy it too. It’s “Who Ordered this Truckload of Dung” by Ajahn Brahm a British Monk. You laugh your way to enlightenment with inspirational and light-hearted collection of stories.
@danishmusings
@danishmusings Год назад
Thank you so much for this lovely comment❣️ I have immediately made a note of the book title: laughing your way to enlightenment is right down my alley! As much as I’m longing for spring, I must confess I’m a little envious of your snow, too. It seems to me the seasons are becoming more blurred here with winter looking the least typical compared to when I was a child. Still - I hope spring is around the corner for you. In the meantime, enjoy the last of the winter with your dog 🥰

I loved this video. We should welcome each day and the light we get. Here in Waterloo, Canada, we didn’t see the sun for more than here hours for the entire month of February. Today, though, the sun has returned and the plants are blooming. Signs of spring. Thank you for this video. We all relish peace of mind, peace in each day and peace for the season.

Thank you for the beautiful & insightful message. I find that it is peace that I most seek. Being outdoors, gardening, long walks, meditations and knitting helps to quiet my mind and slow down a life that is sometimes far too busy and focused on things that only cause anxiety and rob us of peaceful moments. Please contniue to make these videos. They very often speak to the thoughts & feelings that so many of us have. It's comforting to know that others do too.

After the last few year of transition through menopause and illness and many things beyond my control, I can relate to the "all over" bits of life. I agree too re the expectation of being happy. It is like the song "I never promised you a rose garden... " there are thorns among the petals and there is winter.... and to switch metaphors, it helps me to view life with its ups and downs as waves on the ocean, and while I am the farthest thing possible from an actual surfer, there is a truth there to "riding the waves" ...keeping ones balance while doing so? & I think this is the piece I need to focus on. Not the waves, or how wild and up or down they are, but my own inner balance and peace. If it were a storm, perhaps to let it rage, and try to find my own inner "eye of the storm"? I have to laugh at myself... I think my English teachers would not be very happy with me mixing up all these metaphors. But, at my age, I do not care and the imagery of it helps me. I do enjoy the thought provoking videos, and wish you well 🌷
@danishmusings
@danishmusings Год назад
Again, I totally agree with you here. I forget if I used this image in the video, but I read somewhere years ago, that precisely because we cannot control the ups and down in life - the of feeling the rug being pulled from under us when ‘stuff’ happens - we should learn to dance on a shifting carpet. It’s similar to what you write. It’s SO difficult - but we must keep trying 🥰❤️

I absolutely love a morning fog, the air smells so clean and fresh before the sun burns off the fog, I do not think of fog as gloom, I enjoy it, I like the rain as well, living in San Diego we don't get a lot of rain so when we do have a rainy day, I enjoy it, sitting inside looking out at my yard getting watered for free, lol, everything looks so green and clean and i enjoy the fresh smell after a rain My husband keeps saying life is what you make it, I had a friend that just absolutely hated the fog, and could not understand it, lol, It's okay to be different and like different things. as long as you can respect the other person for their different views, So thank you for making this video

You might feel like this video is all over the place, but boy can I relate! I feel energized with the increase in light, but stagnated waiting for spring. I too lay awake at night thinking about I very complicated familial situation. Do I do what is best, healthy for me? Or, do I rescue them again, after 30 years of promising that I would never do it again? There isn’t a right answer. If we didn’t care it would be easy. I really enjoy your deep and introspective content. Thank you🌸💗🌸

flicking back to see what I have missed I came across this treasure . How right you are with the sentiments of it is up to ourselves to make the most / see the best if each of life twists and turns . I do not wait for the Worlds Leaders to make decisions on the climate changes needed , but try in my own choices to be more mindful and rather than think my own tiny purchases make no impact I think that is the most powerful way to change industry who , like those Leaders are commercially lead . We all have our own boundaries and priorities for many decades I have bought and grown organic food but recently have been stunned by how much impact the textiles industry has on our planet ...... always things to learn . We can have compassion for people all around this unstable world while acknowledging that our personal influence is limited. Helping the people of Syria, Turkey and Ukraine by donations is a good way to do something. In our own families, friendships and partnerships we can link the idea of managing our own existence with the principle of making other people happy. There is no pure altruism or egoism, it is always a mix because we need ourselves and we have to pursue our own interests, but we also need others. We give each other stability and happiness in a world which seems to be in chaos. When I had my last girlfriend, making her happy also made me more happy as a result. Spring has finally arrived in Germany and I hope in beautiful Denmark, too. Writing to you always makes me happy because I hope that I can put a smile on your face and exchance interesting thoughts. I hope that you will never forget me because I really think of you quite often. Greetings from Vincent and Happy Easter!

Helle...what a beautiful video, I loved every minute of your thoughtful insights and your contemplation of your great sorrow & how you are dealing with it. Being a mother, wife, daughter, grandmother, friend, fellow sojourner in this life, I too have suffered loss, pain and sorrow. Having lived through the loss of both of my parents, good friends, a young niece, and friendships that have suffered, you are right. We have to go on living; hoping for healing yes, working towards it even, and move forward with our own lives. I just want you to know you're not alone, and thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Someone said to me as I was dealing with a painful loss of a relationship, that the "story" wasn't over. Meaning, I don't know what is around the corner and therefore I shouldn't lose hope for reconciliation, but yes get on with the job of living. On another note...as everyone always thinks California is so sunny , I live near an area called the "Delta" and with that comes a lot of fog and grey days that can go on & on. We have had the most rain this winter that I've experienced in over 7 years, and the beginning of your video looked like a typical day in Northern California of late. So, again you are not alone in that as well. I absolutely love your videos and thank you for taking the time to reach out to all of us fellow sojourners. Blessings ~ Sue

Hello from Halifax,Nova Scotia, Canada. Thank you Helle for your videos, I find them very relaxing and informative. We had a mild winter here with only one really cold weekend in February and a below average snow cover the whole winter. Spring is starting here and I want to tell you about the Provincial flower of Nova Scotia, the Mayflower. It grows low to the ground in the woods and first appears in April, almost a low growing vine. It is hard to find anymore but is my favorite scent in the world. The flowers are a very small almost watery pink and the branches are mostly root-like. Do you have a flower like this in Denmark?
