No spoilers, but the actor playing her brother/Quicksilver here was the same actor that played him in the X-Men movies, and not the one who played him in the Marvel movies, hence the 'recast' comment by Darcy. When this episode came out, people went nuts over the decision to use that actor.

Homework would have not prepared you for this amazing series. No one was supposed to know what in the world is going on. That's why it makes for such compelling viewing. My favorite Marvel series other than Loki. It will all make sense at the end. The clues keep coming every episode.

No one? I literally could tell exactly what the shoe would be right from the start. The only thing i didn't guess was that the series guy would make a reanimated vision. I thought that would be what was left after Wanda stopped using her powers to create the sit com reality. The plot of this should have been obvious to anyone who knows what was true powers were beyond red explosions from her hands. And who remembered that her parents died, she was tortured, her brother died and then her love died. It was obviously going to be about her grief

I really enjoy the end of Episode 5, where Wanda and Vision are arguing. She doesn't like what's happening, so she tries to end the episode early by rolling the credits, but Vision wasn't having it, and talked past them until she gave up. It's a clever use of the mechanics of the "TV show" format she's creating, and then having it be subverted by someone who's suspecting it.

The actor playing Pietro played him in X-men: Days of Future Past(must see). He was cast when the one who was Pietro in Age of Ultron wasn't avaliable. Plus, it was the classic switch actors on a main character (Darrin on Bewitched, Aunt Viv on Fresh Prince).

Pietro Maximoff (Quicksilver) was the only character that Fox allowed to be in both the X-Men and Marvel Cinematic Universes (Wanda was another, but she was never used in the X-Men series), so he was the only one to appear played by two different actors. Now that Disney owns Fox, they can do what they want.

There's incorrect information there, but I can't point it out without spoiling. Though I think the line "She recast Pietro" doesn't spoil, but points out the fact that he's not supposed to look the same, which means they didn't want to use the same actor as he'd thus look the same and could not be a recasting.

I just wanted to add to this that using the actor from the X-Men franchise set off a firestorm of speculation on the internet. People knew that Wanda was going to be in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness", and also that the new Spider-Man movie seemed like it might have something to do with dimension travel. Plenty of people thought that this could be how the X-Men universe got grafted into the MCU.

It’s so much fun watching this again and feeling that confusion and excitement all over again, then the crushing feeling of seeing vision with a hole in his head. Thrilling. Thank you for doing this and never apologize for not “getting “ all of it. I didn’t either but I had the privilege of having a week to hash it out online with everyone who was just as confused as I was. Don’t be fooled by those who like to pretend they had it all figured out. While they got some things, no one had it all figured out.

How everyone flipped their lid when Evan Peters showed up as Quicksilver was hysterical. I mean I went nuts as well. I remember seeing that scene and yelling, “What the f-?! Who?! But how?! Wait?! HUH??!!” Afterwards my thoughts were, “This is either something to do with the Multiverse or this is a fantastic joke about tv shows pulling a Darrin.”

This got me into the MCU again after I heard about it online. I fell off after Age of Ultron so I missed alot but as a massive X-Men fan when i saw that Evan Peters showed up as Quicksilver i right away watched Episodes 1 and 2 then thought "Hey this is great i should watch everything after Age of Ultron" so I did all that and really enjoyed myself.

Lagos is where they were at the beginning of Captain America 3 when that villain Rumlow (Crossbones) tried to blow up Captain America, Wanda tried to use her powers to stop it but ended up pushing it into the side of the building.

Episode 5 was amazing! One of the best Marvel viewing experiences ever. So much tension and revelation. And that ending, even though it wasn't what we all first thought, was absolutely mind blowing!

With the superpowers, and magic, and special effects in the story, as well as the unusual nature of the story itself, the thing that strains credibility the most is that Vision is considered to be the office funny guy.

The acting in their confrontation-scene was super immersive. they are both more than just good. And in the next two episodes it's the same level , if not better. And visions line close to end broke me. Beautiful. Gutwrenching. Absolutely real. Best Marvrl mini series yet

That's what I love about all of these shows. They give the side characters from the movies the time to shine and the actors a lot more to do. Both Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany benefited greatly from this.

I liked this a lot. I also really liked most of Falcon/Winter Soldier. Not entirely sure which of the two I would call best. Entirely sure I would not want to live on the difference. I have hopes that Moon Knight might top both but we shall see. Fist of Khonshu out.

We all went to RU-vid after each episode to hear other people break it down, explain the commercials and offer up theories. And most of them were wrong!

I think the "You Wanda/wander the world with a Vision of what life could be" theme song and intro is my favourite. While I do like to binge shows, this is one I was really happy to have to wait a week between episodes to digest and discuss what went on.

Not many people noticed that when Wanda threw Monica out of Westveiw, Monice broke through 3 walls and then the barrier. Monica literally had to break the fourth wall to get out of Westveiw.

The people of the town weren't actors. When the FBI/Sword peeps were putting names up there, they were indicating that citizens of Westview were being renamed in the Hex as someone else.

In answer to the confusion, the townsfolk are Westview citizens, not actors. When Darcy said 'played by', she just meant that the characters you're seeing on the screen aren't the same people as they were before whatever this is happened. Loved the way, when the kids talked about her being able to raise the dead, Agnes got deathly quiet and said 'you can do that..?'. Even moreso, it's so obvious that the speech she gives the kids about how grief over death needs to be faced, that's her expressing the things she herself needs to understand and accept but can't. The only thing more brilliant than the writing of this show is the acting job that Elizabeth Olsen did in it. Once you finish the series - and get back from therapy - I highly recommend you watch the 'Assembled' on Disney+ that shows what went into making this series, because it is truly awe-inspiring.

The kids suddenly being aged was another "Family Ties" reference, but also something that often happened in TV shows. Meredith Baxter Birney was pregnant and it was written into "Family Ties." She had the baby and at the start of the next season, the kid was suddenly like a five year old.

It’s good that it can be enjoyed on a surface level, without being deeply nerdcore. As an entertaining and intriguing tv show it works and all those little Easter eggs (or giant pietro eggs) don’t necessarily need to be known.

Don't feel bad about not getting things. This show is VERY meta and even those well versed in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Marvel comics had lots of guesses and suppositions about the show that were all over the place. As folks said, the only "big" thing you didn't get was Pietro's "recasting" but I can't remember if you've seen the X-Men movies or not. I watch way too many reactors these days!

The name of the paper towels in the commercial was "Lagos". Lagos is the name of the city in Nigeria where Wanda accidentally blew up a building at the beginning of Captain America: Civil War. It was one of the "accidents" that led to the Sakovia accords designed to regulate the activities of super-heroes. The slogan for Lagos paper towels was "For when you make a mess you didn't mean to."

There definitely were some Full House and Growing Pains elements to the intro, but mostly Family Ties as their "set" matches a mirror image of that show.

I am so loving your reaction! Honestly, you not knowing all the lore of the MCU is a plus because you've picked up on the tragic elements of the story, and how deeply it dives into grief and depression. At the time the series was happening, so many people speculated these grand theories about what was happening instead of paying attention to the fundamentals of storytelling.

Episode 4 is when things start to make sense... and then immediately goes off the rails again. I see plenty of comments have already referenced the very cool Easter Egg that is her brother. That is what made this show so cool, just trying to figure out what is going on. Watching this in a community so people can discuss and explain Easter eggs and references that one may not understand just yet. The Brother one through me in such a crazy loop, one of my favorite things about this show

I love this show and I'm glad that you adjusted to it after the first viewing. It's a real trip, and it was so fun to have all the mystery to think about. The speculation as they were released was another layer of fun. A lot of it was wrong, but some was pretty spot on. There's a lot of nods to the comic books as well as movies. You'll probably pick up a bit of that from (carefully screened for you) comments, but its worth exploring with some explainers after the series is over (e.g., Nerdist videos).

Lagos is a city in Nigeria. Its from Civil War where she accidentally blew up a building - and led to the Sokovia Accords. The commercials are basically representatives of her past traumas. The Pietro at the end is Evan Peters. He played Quicksilver in the Fox universe, so it was a fun wink and a nod to the fans. Dont feel bad that theres stuff youre not picking up right away. Theres also lots of breakdown videos out there (New Rockstars/Heavy Spoilers for example) that might be helpful for you to watch after watching these videos.

The 80s episode, as far as the house design, was mainly inspired by Family Ties, and the theme song sequence was mostly inspired by Family Ties, Growing Pains and Full House (although Full House's run was mostly in the 90s). Family Ties had a family portrait intro while Growing Pains had a "through the years" picture intro. The 'playing outdoors' bit would've been Full House.

The 80s was more Family Ties than Full House: Full House was mostly 90s. The actor who shows up as ""Pietro" played Quicksilver in the X-Men movies. The paper towel is named after the city in which Wanda failed to save people from Crossbones bomb in Civil War, the Hydra soap add is obviously a reference to Hydra, the Strucker reference in the commercial before that is a reference to the specific Hydra mad scientist who exposed her to the infinity stone, and the toaster add from Stark tech with the red blinking light in the first episode was a reference to the unexploded missile made by Stark Industries that she mentioned in Age of Ultron she and her brother were trapped underneath rubble with.

My husband and I have been deep into the MCU since the first Iron Man. He also has pretty much a photographic memory of the Marvel and DC comics so I have him as my own live Google sitting next to me on the couch. We watch New Rockstars and Nerdist breakdown and easter egg videos as well. Still with all that, watching this series we found ourselves scratching our head or going "ooooooohhhhhh" while watching this series. :D Loved watching this series so much from start to end. So many people bailed after the first couple episodes and the internet roasted it. Then near the end of the season everyone heard the buzz and came back to it. It must be strange watching MCU stuff having not seen all the movies, there are just so many little morsels you miss out on. You gotta go back and react to all the movies you haven't seen! :)

The guy playing Pietro played him in the X:Men Days of Futures past a few others. In The comic books Wanda and Pietro started out as villains as one of the first members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Then they left and joined the Avengers with Hawkeye who was also a villain in a couple Iron Man issues. Also, they keep changing this, but Wanda and Pietro we're Magneto's kids.

Monica Rambeau is the daughter of Captain Marvel's friend, Maria Rambeau. Maria died a few years after the snap (see Avengers Infinity War). Monica is the little girl that had Captain Marvel's leather jacket and helped her select a costume color.

The casting of Peter Evans as Wanda's brother Pietro was an epically clever mind*ck for Marvel's fanbase. As a bit of context, when Stan Lee was trying to turn Marvel comic titles into TV and movie properties in the 70's, he began selling off rights to different titles. About 15-20 years ago, Marvel set up its own studio (which had traded hands among different corporate owners until Disney eventually acquired it), and it began making movies (starting with standalone Wesley Snipes movies as vampire hunter Blade, whose reboot into the MCU was hinted in the end credits of The Eternals), and the the Phase 1 movies using the superheroes that comprised the Avengers, which Marvel/Disney retained. Spider-Man films were made outside the MCU because Sony Pictures owned those rights, and the same for Fantastic Four and X-Men movies because Fox Studios owned those rights. In the comics, Wanda and Pietro are mutants, so when Fox made X-Men: Days of Future Past, they were able to use the Pietro/Quicksilver character as a mutant, which Peter Evans played. While Fox owned the rights to many of the main X-Men characters and the class of superheroes known as mutants, they didn't have exclusive rights to the Wanda and Pietro characters. So when Marvel/Disney wanted to use Wanda and Pietro, they made them humans that acquired super powers through one of the Infinity Stones and human experimentation, and cast Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Pietro. When Wandavision "recast" Pietro with the Fox mutant universe actor, they were perhaps teasing to MCU fans that this might have been a version of Pietro from a different multiverse. That idea of a multiverse with variant versions of characters started to gain more traction with Marvel teasing hints in the Spider-Man: Far From Home movie and confirmed in the Loki mini-series, and when Disney acquired Fox, it gained the ability to introduce the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the MCU. Also, a business cooperation between Disney and Sony allowed Disney to bring Spider-Man into the MCU, so we're finally seeing all the different titles come back under one corporate umbrella (either through acquisition or partnership) with the potential to see a complete Marvel Universe that resembles the original Marvel comic universe.

That's the actor who played Quicksilver (Pieter) in the X-Men movies, the same character, but two different versions between the X-Men series on 20th Century Fox and the MCU.

All the commercials have something to do with Wanda’s past. The Stark toaster (Stark weapons almost killed her and her brother), the Strucker watch (Strucker is the Hydra agent who experimented on her), and in this one the Lagos paper towels (Lagos, Nigeria is where she saved Captain America at the beginning of Civil War, but did it by sending a bomb into the path of civilians). The show will make sense even without these details, promise, don’t sweat missing put on them, it’s a lot to keep up with. Glad to see you sticking with it, enjoy the rest of the ride.

First Cassie, don't worry about being confused or not liking the beginning we all felt like that lol, that was the plan I think. Wanda is actually THE most powerful entity in the Marvel Universe, she is more than capable of doing all of this. I found this to be one of the best allegories for dealing with grief I've ever seen. Amazing series.

I'm sure someone already mentioned it, but the theme from episode five (the 80's) was Family Ties rather than Full House. A great sitcom (and my favourite show for years as a kid) that made Michael J. Fox a household name.

I feel the same way about Kat Dennings. I haven't liked her in anything I've seen her in, *except* as Darcy in the MCU. I really like her as Darcy, and I've never liked her in anything else... Probably says more about the types of roles she gets cast in than it does about her.

Every single person in her life who she loves, and who loves her back unconditionally died violently, most of them right before her eyes. Having to kill Vision only to have him brought back to life and murdered in front of her was too much for her to bear. She needs intense therapy.

The odd commercials that have come into the show so far have been references to past MCU people/events that connect to Wanda. First was an ad for Stark Technologies, which made the bomb that killed Wanda's parents and drove her and her brother to Hydra (and made them hate Iron Man). Second was Struecker watches; Struecker was the Hydra scientist in Age of Ultron's opening, who exposed Wanda and her brother Pietro to the Mind Stone and essentially gave them their powers. Third is Lagos paper towels; Lagos is the city at the beginning of Civil War, where Wanda tries to contain an explosion in a marketplace, but accidentally redirects the explosion into an occupied building instead (hence, "for when you make a mess you didn't mean to"). Pietro's actor was Evan Peters, the guy who played Quicksilver in the Fox X-Men movies (and a fan-favorite from those movies)...it's a long story involving copyrights, but it boils down to this: in the comics, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are mutants and thus the rights to use them were owned by Fox; Marvel got around this for the MCU versions by calling them by their "normal" names Wanda and Pietro and giving them a different origin for their powers. When this show was filming, they couldn't get the original Pietro actor, Aaron Taylor-Johnson (scheduling conflicts or something), but they could get Evan, hence the "why'd she recast Pietro" line. This caused fans to lose their minds when the show first aired. Now that Disney owns both Marvel and Fox, Marvel has access to all the mutant characters and names that were owned by Fox for use in the MCU. This was seen as the first real implied sign of Marvel bringing the X-Men into the MCU. Sorry for the long-winded explanation.

Lagos, Nigeria. It's where, at the beginning of Civil War, Wanda tried to contain a suicide bomber and wound up inadvertently killing Black Panther's father. It was the first time she had killed an innocent bystander. All of the commercials refer to formative experiences in Wanda's life.

Every commercial has to do with some traumatic event in her life. Lagos was from Civil War, the watch was Strucker who was the Hydra member that unlocked her powers, the toaster was Stark because that was the person she wanted revenge on, etc. Originally they were supposed to be Dr. Strange trying to talk to her but due to Covid they had to change things
