Did they specifically use The Office as a reference? Modern Family was one of the inheritors of The Office's mockumentary format, so it seems to me they could aim to spoof Modern Family and spoof The Office by proxy.

The reason folks were so excited about the "cross over" is that x-men and avengers in the comics always lived in the same universe, it was just the movies were everything was split up. For comics fans the x-men coming to the MCU is more of a coming home and less a cross over.

I love this! Fellow lady here, but I worked at a comic store for 8 years. There are sooo many in-jokes here for comic and comic movie fans, but don't feel like you have to get them. They're Easter eggs: delicious treats if you find them, but not necessary to appreciate the meal. This is an EXTREMELY meta show, but there's an actual relationship and drama at the heart.

Monica''s molecular structure was altered every time she passed through the hex (initially going in and then being thrown out by Wanda). That's why the her X-rays taken by SWORD were blank. It's the MCU's twist on how she eventually gains super-powers- in the comics Monica Rambeau was Captain Marvel back in the 1980s. She later adopted other superhero names and nowadays is known as Spectrum.

I still like the little detail in episode 7. "What's happening with the broadcast?" "Dead air. The signal's gone." No, it's not gone. Since the sitcom is from the 2010's, the signal would've transitioned from analog to digital broadcast. The old tv's wouldn't pick it up because old tv's don't have digital tuners. They needed a modern flat screen tv.

@BryceLK
@BryceLK 2 года назад
@@Readyforit7723 *2010's is most likely more accurate. The Malcolm in the Middle episode surely was meant to be the representative of the 2000's and I believe that show began in 1999. I'm very comfortable saying that this is meant to be a jump to the 2010 decade. They're playing off of the mockumentary genre, and especially the Modern Family look and feel, while the intro song is very The Office. The Office ran from 2005-2013 Modern Family ran from 2009-2020 I feel like it's more of a stretch to think they are placing this episode further back than to just accept that they started the sitcoms in the 1950's and have been jumping to the next decade with each subsequent sitcom episode that gets a new theme song.
@BryceLK
@BryceLK 2 года назад
I'd had a similar thought about the transition from Analog to Digital broadcasts, but I'd never heard anyone mention it until seeing your comment. _"Congress passed the Telecommunications Act of 1996 with the original transition date of December 31, 2006. However, the transition to digital television was set back three times: first to December 31, 2008, then to February 17, 2009, and then finally to June 12, 2009."_ It was meant to free up large chunks of the broadcasting spectrum to make more room for cell phones and improve their reliability, as well as to give more of that space to Public and Safety services. Alongside improving TV quality overall, while _intending_ to increase competition and lower costs for the consumer. Even seeing one other person have the same idea feels so vindicating! 😁

The thing about the "doing homework" thing is weird. All the random little cameos that would require homework aren't important to the story; you can follow it with no problem if you don't get the gag about their comic book costumes, or recognize Quicksilver from the X-Men movies. None of the twists depend on it.
@noodle_fc
@noodle_fc 2 года назад
I don't think it's weird. Many of us who understood the references had a blast coming up with theories about the show after each episode. The show was written to be comprehensible without that knowledge, as you said, but it was also written with that additional material to enhance the experience for people who were in the know or wanted to conjecture. Why shouldn't Cassie get a taste of that, if she's careful to avoid spoilers?
@MarieS610
@MarieS610 2 года назад
@@noodle_fc I think maybe he was just trying to say it’s not necessary to do any homework to still enjoy the show. She was confused about Agatha here at the end and felt like she needed to do more homework, but really she doesn’t. The next episode does enough explaining. The comic knowledge is nice and maybe gives a more appreciative experience while watching this show, but it’s still quite enjoyable for someone who knows nothing but the MCU movies.
@noodle_fc
@noodle_fc 2 года назад
@@MarieS610 I think Cassie enjoys supplementing her watching with outside reading, and that babs3241 was saying it's weird anyone would want to do that. Cassie did mention reading a criticism to the effect that the show _requires_ outside reading to understand, but I don't think she agrees. I felt like Cassie is happy to let the minor Easter eggs fly over her head. Perhaps babs3241 interpreted her differently. Whether Cassie specifically needs to do homework is debatable. She actually _is_ more confused about the core narrative than a viewer is meant to be, because she misunderstood the meaning of "Agatha All Along." (She's wrestling with whether the whole phenomenon is Agatha's work rather than grasping the reveal that Agatha has been messing with Wanda's creation from the beginning.) She'd figure it out quickly during the next episode, but I think she'll do better realizing her error before continuing.

I think most people misinterpret "Agatha All Along." It's not a meta reveal for the audience that Agatha has been the villain. The song itself is in sitcom style because it is *Wanda's* perspective. When Agatha reveals herself to Wanda, Wanda assumes Agatha is the source of all her troubles. As we will see, it really has been Wanda doing everything. Agatha is there on her own agenda, not yet revealed until Ep.8.

Really love Episode 6 fun fact but all the costume's worn by the family are based on their Earth-616 comic counterparts more going for the early more campy depictions of these outfits. Even Billy and Tommy have their own outfits based on Wiccan (Billy) and Speed (Tommy) there superhero names from the comic. Quicksilver also appears in his classic outfit even has the hair all pulled back which is pretty cool to see in live action. Wanda also has her comic outfit and so does Vison with that long V neck cloak all of these much more campy than the comic versions of course they're Halloween outfits like lol Edit: Forgot to mention but Earth-616 is the mainline comic universe which started with Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1 (uncirculated, retroactive) Fantastic Four #1 (Nov. 1961) and to this day still continues and has never been rebooted. In 2000 instead of rebooting the universe Marvel created the Ultimate Universe starting with Ultimate Spider-Man which put a modern updated spin on the origins of Marvel hero's and villains bring them into the 2000s instead of starting in the 1960s. The Earth-616 comic's of course were pretty up to date by the 2000s anyways in terms of outfits etc but Marvel wanted to reintroduce the origins of there hero's for a new generation so they created this new universe and made some big and small chances.

In the comic books, Agatha is a complicated character, sometimes good, sometimes bad. One minute she's babysitting for superheroes, the next she's working for devils as part of some elaborate plot. In the comic books she trained Wanda in formal magic (the normal spell casting way instead of using her superpower). Visión is such a hero. He didn't fully understand what was going on and was still willing to kill himself trying to help the people of that town. FYI, the pandemic forced last minute rewrites. In this show, entire subplots simply didn't get resolved. How far can she go? She can rewrite all of reality. "Nexus being" does require some explanation. Every universe has a spider-themed superhero (a lady named Madame Web makes sure of that), but not every universe has a Peter Parker. Every universe has a Wanda Maximoff. Every single one. The next big bad of the next couple of phases is also a Nexus being.

There’s the Nexus, _a cross-dimensional gateway which provides a pathway to any and all possible realities._ And Wanda is a Nexus being, _rare individual entities with the ability to affect probability and thus the future, thereby altering the flow of the Universal Time Stream. These beings, each referred to as a nexus, act as the keystones of the Multiverse and are crucial to its ultimate coherence and stability._ The interviewer’s voice is actually Agatha’s toned down They could go in easily when it was blue. Then after the drone incident Wanda reinforced it and it turned red. So in the comics, Agatha is…not a bad guy per se, she has fought the avengers a few times I think. She was a witch who was Wanda’s magic teacher Wanda is controlling the town, Agatha was messing with it. The glitches, fake Pietro, talking to Wanda as the interviewer when she’s not supposed to

@Jon Mercano Agatha is more than Wanda's teacher, she is over 20,000 years old, one of the most powerful witches in existence short of those who rely on Chaos Magic, and was nanny to Franklin Richards....she's one bad mama jama!

oh my God you just said "Darcy you've got a lot of explaining to do." That is the exact line from the I Love Lucy 1950s TV show ("Lucy, you've got a lot of explaining to do"). That line is iconic. Maybe not anymore. But that line was a meme for 50 years. that TV show was what WandaVision episode one was based on. Including the hex.😮 for someone who never watched the old TV shows, you pulled that line out organically. Assuming you ever read this

I didn't realize that Kickass was mentioned twice this episode. This actor played in Kickass along with the actor who played Pietro in Age of Ultron. So he plays Quicksilver in Sony films and Wandavision and The other actor plays him un Ultron, while they were both in Kickass as semi kids..

technically Quicksilver (Pietro) was not an X-Men but he first appeared in X-Men Comics #4 as- Magneto's son and a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants but eventually joined the Avengers. The costume seen here was his classic 70s/80s Avengers era

Agnes is a fictional character that appears in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. She is a powerful witch, typically portrayed as a friend and teacher of Wanda Maximoff, as well as the mother of Nicholas Scratch. Agatha goes on to become a significant figure in the Marvel universe, protecting Franklin Richards as his nanny and later mentoring Wanda in the use of real magic. At one point, she had a familiar named Ebony, a cat-like creature that could sense the presence of mystical beings.

•Halloween Episode = perfect opportunity for original costumes from the comics •Yeah, that was uncalled for. •If their moving at super speed, then no. •So in the comics, Tommy's hero name is Speed and Billy's is Wiccan. Speed has super speed, while Wiccan has his mother's powers. •Think of the people not moving as the extras in the background of an episode when the main characters aren't on screen. •Everyone was weirded out until Episode 4. •Modern Family, The Office (especially the intro), and/or any other rockumentary-style sitcom •To quote Malekith from Thor the Dark World, "WITCH!"

this is one of those things you need to know the full history of the comics to really appreciate. Agatha Harkness is a very powerful witch who has a tendency to switch back & forth between Good & Evil. right now she's solidly aligned with Evil.

WandaVision showing the Fox X-Men actor caused so much buzz! And even though mutants have never been acknowledged in the MCU, in the source material of Marvel comics there’s always been mutants. It’s just the whole thing of different studios owning the rights to different characters from the Marvel comic books. So in the original Marvel comics X-Men/mutants like the Wolverine were there from the start fighting with or against characters like Spider-Man and The Hulk. Also in the comics Wanda and her brother are actually both mutants, being called the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver respectively. Fun fact the costumes Wanda, Piedro, and Vision are shown in for Halloween do show u their look in the comics

Most of the stuff you're confused about, are just easter eggs, or the introduction of a new character. Don't worry too much about it and just enjoy the show. Like with Agatha, it's like when Black Panther was introduced in Civil War. People who know the character will already know, but for everyone else, it's supposed to be a "who is this??"

Get the tissues ready for 8. The whole series has such a unique story structure that none of it is predictable. Just an incredible series. So, nothing in the rest of the series is predictable. They do stick the landing, and the format of the series, and the old tv series makes sense. Much of what happened in the first 3 episodes that was confusing will makes sense…and will make you cry…

14:39 Just like in the previous "decades," this is a mashup of 2000s-style "documentary" comedy ... most of the episode is "Modern Family", but the title sequence is "The Office", and the parts with Darcy and Vision are suggestive of "Arrested Development"

One of the things Disney has been doing with the MCU seems to be using the big movies for the large touchstone events, and using the Disney+ series for more of the fanservice for the comic readers; many nods to the various comic books can be seen in them (such as the 'Halloween' costumes all being versions of the original comic book outfits and the introduction of Agatha Harkness, a magic-wielder who was variously a villain of, and mentor to, Wanda in the comics. I quite like the approach, as both the casual MCU fans and the deep comic fans get a little something.

Agatha's also a powerful witch in the comics too. She's usually an ally of The Fantastic Four and was the nanny of Reed and Sue Richards's son Franklin for a while. Despite Reed and Sue being humans given powers by cosmic energy Franklin's a mutant.
