Iodine deficiency is more and more common even in iodine-replete areas such as the United States.
The only way for humans to get iodine is through their diet and unless you are eating sea vegetables or kelp frequently you are probably not getting enough.
Iodine deficiency manifests as hypothyroid symptoms, goiter formation, pregnancy-related problems and more.
Learn more about how to know if you are getting enough iodine, how to supplement with iodine, how iodine deficiency affects your thyroid gland and the benefits of iodine deficiency in this video.

I have been taking 150 or so mg iodine for years, as KI. Such Iodine levels are safe enough, IF you are healthy enough, and many are not. By neglecting iodine, many have damaged systems that become very intolerant to iodine. Unfortunately, the medical system is designed to sell you medicines, not keep you healthy, because they don't make money on healthy. The last place to learn how to be healthy is the medical establishment. I am 71, very healthy, and avoided doctors my whole life.

Your Thyroid is the master gland that controls all your hormones that control all the functions in your body. Mammograms are actually very dangerous as the weight of the equipment put to flatten your breast can rapture any tumor or cyst in your breast this way spreading cancer cells into your body, beside the fact mammograms are x-rays that cause cancer. If anything you should request sonogram, they are not dangerous and actually show way more than any mammogram can.

Great video, thanks so much. I wish I knew more about iodine a long time ago. I have hashimotos and had the worst brain fog, fatigue, chronic infections, moodiness and lots of other terrible symptoms. I could barely function and was miserable. I started taking Lugol's iodine with selenium/zinc. Game changer for me. I am happy, no more brain fog and I don't have chronic fatigue anymore. I can't believe I suffered for years almost bedridden. I am my old self but better than ever!! I am 53 and also suffered ADHD as a child, and I am wondering now if iodine deficiency was part of my issue, as I have even noticed my focus is much better. I take one drop of luguls with 200mcg of selenium every other day unless I feel I need more, and 25 mcg of zinc. An excellent natural source of iodine is organic seaweed, for zinc pumpkin seeds and Canadian red lentils for selenium.

Cranberries are a rich source of iodine that doesn't have the risks of heavy metals like seaweeds do. They are grown here in the States, so there's less of a carbon footprint. I buy bags of the fresh berries in Fall, freeze them so I've got them year round, add them to my kale smoothie. There's about 100mcgs per ounce of berries, which also contain fiber, antioxidants, and d-mannose, which is good for your bladder.

aqualane1 Hi Aqua! If you do go this route, look for organic... I found them at walmart of all places 😨, and make sure to wash them before putting in the blender. A half cup is about 2 ounces. I also put a very ripe banana, sometimes pineapple, grapes or mango in with my smoothie, any of those will sweeten up the tart flavor of the berries. Good luck, good health to you! 🌱

My research shows that Cranberries do not have iodine. Where did you find such information? I have checked about 20 different sources with lists of nutrients for cranberries. Very healthy. But: No iodine. If you have a reliable source I would love to know, but would keep doubting it considering so many sources that have no mention of it, and being very unlikely in a fruit.
@laurieparis2203
@laurieparis2203 5 лет назад
Naomi Aldort hi Naomi! Here:www.healthbeckon.com/iodine-rich-foods/ Naomi, there were a couple other sources, if you put "cranberries iodine" in Google, these sources will come up. But the fact that you checked over 20 sources and found no reference to iodine in cranberries, leads me to believe you are correct, or that the iodine content may not be as high as listed by this website? I do know they are grown in bogs, close to the sea, so they could pick up iodine in that way. Also that iodine for some reason is often not routinely listed as a nutrient in food. Thanks for bringing this up!

Lots of conflicting info on cranberries and iodine ,the UK iodine group states that cranberries are not high in iodine.However it would appear that cranberries which are grown near the ocean has iodine in the groundwater hence the confusion or disparity over the iodine and cranberry connection. www.ukiodine.org/iodine-in-the-news/ www.jbc.org/content/79/2/409.full.pdf

150mcg is USRDA which is only enough to avoid Goiters. Japanese people consume as much as 100 times that amount. (From natural sources) Naturally sourced is always best. Your body will use what it needs.

Dave Hall ya, but they also eat a lot of soy and goitrogens that block the absorption of iodine, too. They have, in general, a completely different diet than Westerners, although this is changing. More is not better in this case, excess iodine can precipitate autoimmune thyroid disease in susceptible individuals... women predominanting in this higher risk group.

My antibodies have dropped from 400 to 107 in three years. Only thing that iodine flared was my vitiligo, due to low vitamin D3 at a the time. I've raised my vitamin D3 (must take with K2) and no more flares. My mom take 100mg of iodine. She has diabetes, hypothyroidism, high cholesterol/triglycerides, and fatty liver. All have significantly improved on the 100mg. We follow Dr. David Brownstein's iodine protocol. I, even, have my 13 y.o. daughter on 25mg of iodine and she is fine. Someone with Hashimoto's must go low and slow when adding iodine and upping their dose, plus taking the right vitamins with it. Iodine is water soluble element, so when you have adequate amounts of iodine in your body, your body will naturally get rid of it in your urine, just like vitamin C.

Just got sick of having to think about it, source cranberries, not know if they were grown near the sea Also add a small amount of kelp strips to my daily beans while they are cooking, make from dried so the kelp is dissolved by the time they are done. Lucky to live near a few Asian Grocers! Get my selenium from a daily Brazil nut, zinc I just put in the tea I make each morning and drink all day Has your mom looked into supplementing her diet with a choline heavy food like broccoli? Wow, glad your feeling less pain, this is my biggest issue. I’m going to give it a go as well. I too can’t stand town water, in fact I used to work a several water treatment works in a major city in Australia. Ammonia, Liquid Clorine, “Alum” or “Floc”, Alum is short for Aluminium Sulphide also known as Floculant as it binds all the sediment in suspension together and falls to the bottom to be removed, not a nice substance. Caustic Soda, not always used, mainly used when the “Raw water” (water straight from the river, dam etc) has very high turbidity, more particles than what Alum can effectively remove on its own. Carbon sometimes as a smell reducing agent (harmless), Lime, these are the main ones in Australia. We don’t medicate the water (yet)! with fluorides, one reason is it’s toxicity to workers if there is a spillage.
@ChrisDIYerOklahoma
@ChrisDIYerOklahoma 5 лет назад
Hear ya...thanks for writing about this. There are "standards" many departments/municipalities use to clean their water supplies. And provide the public with these annual "water quality reports". IMO...almost like saying "here is proof of the stuff we are adding to slowly kill you". If I pour a clear glass of Gerber "Pure" water and a clear glass of my city water and do a side-by-side comparison (visually and taste/smell)...it is laughable. The city water does not look as clear, there is a distinct odor, and the taste is unnatural (chemical/hard taste...not as "fluid" as the Gerber water). I am no scientist or doctor...but, it can't be good for your body to ingest and cook with "enhanced" city water. At least Australia doesn't add fluorides. The old saying, "If it doesn't look, feel, taste, smell right...prob isn't right!". Curious what a medical doctor has to say about all this. Lastly, my plants are watered with city water. When I use rainwater...they look/grow better (seem "happier").
@martinlang9615
@martinlang9615 5 лет назад
Chris DIYer At one treatment plant, there was a large numbers of complaints over the smell of the treated water. It was found to be the natural manganese or magnesium (just can’t remember which), to solve this problem they introduced finely crushed carbon (PAC Powdered Activated Carbon) in a massive scale. This was later removed by the suction pumps along the moveable gangway in the primary settling tanks. This was quite successful and harmless to us. A first!! Thanks for your feedback, cheers!

Chris DIYer The Pure Gerber water here in the States contains fluoride. 😨 I know bc I buy the big gallons of bottled water, too. Reason... too many letters from the City about bacterial overgrowth in the municipal water, and the smell of chlorine at times was noticable. I drink distilled now, and add back minerals.

Hi, Thank you for posting this informative video. Is is possible for someone to be iodine deficient and not have a an underlying thyroid imbalance and in particular hypothyroidism? A few years ago I had a thyroid goiter removed and the specialists dealing with the case were not sure of what the cause for the goiter was since my thyroid hormones were within the normal range. My iodine was not tested and I am now wondering whether iodine deficiency was the cause. More recently, I had to reduce my sodium and salt intake due to another health reason and now I am wondering if I am putting myself at an increased risk of iodine deficiency. Would you say that my iodine deficiency risk is high after the thyroid glad removal and what would be the best way to determine if I am deficient? Thank you.

Fluoride causes the glands in the brain to calcify. It is the #1 cause of children with autism and learning disabilities, lack of common sense. Chlorine effects the nerves. Making a child have behavioral issues, as well as parasites both compromise the immune system. Both are found in most water (tap, well and springs). Buy a countertop water distiller. They are around $100 through Wish and Amazon. Cook and drink only this water and I predict your child will feel much better. Put a filter on your shower head. Iodine also is a must! Selenium, validium, magnesium, potassium, Vitamin D, A, C and B12. Also full parasite cleansing. We are mammals and if you are eating pork, you have parasites. Your Nature Dr, can help with that. Do your homework and research and see what you feel is best for your child and God Bless.

What's the symptoms of underdeveloped pituitary gland?
@annarodney5506
@annarodney5506 3 года назад
@@superbroxii the PG regulates just about all hormones. And hormones control various areas of our lives. So for my daughter, she isn’t missing all hormones, there is only a deficiency or less production thereof. She initially wasn’t able to hold her body temperature. There is a hormone connected to her thyroid which regulates the balance of body temp. She feels cold when she doesn’t get the med for this (currently taken every day - synthroid or levothyroxine) she also wasn’t growing in height so there was stunted growth. She is currently taking a growth hormone shot daily (not a huge fan but it does what she needs) she should be developing (puberty) but the test for that shows her body hasn’t yet produced enough to develop in that area fully so she may have to take something for that. Crazy thing is her emotions have 🙄🙄🙄

But from then on she used to wear scarves around her neck to cover up the scar that she didn't like. She died when I was 4 years old, I don't have any memory of her except for some pictures of her when I was an infant. In the pictures I have seen of her, she was heavyset. Possibly due to a lack of a thyroid.

Quick question: With the fact that Iodine can be used topically for breast issues, removing moles, and a few other things - as well as the fact that you can ingest it... I am wondering if I can possibly use it either on the back of my ear or possibly in my ear. I experienced a full complete loss of hearing in one ear as a child after having an MMR "sharpie" given "on schedule" at one of my wellness visits before attending school. I could hear perfectly out of both ears before that happened so I know what it felt like and I would sure give the world to have that hearing back. (I sing in an audition ensemble at college and I also play classical piano)... Anyone know if I could use it to possibly help regain my hearing in that ear?

Now I take a compounded med basically named T3 twice a day at 5 mcg with one a day Levothyroxine at 25 mcg. Excepted is every third day I take an evening does with the T3 of another Levothyroxine. And....I’m still plagued with cysts. Are we doing wrong by nit adding iodine in some form..?

There is no such thing as an Allergy to Iodine. What happens is that there are 3 Halides in the periodic table. Fluoride, Bromine and Iodine. When the body has a severe deficiency of Iodine, the body tends to absorb Fluoride and Bromine into the muscle tissue and even the Thyroid and other glands. When you start taking Iodine, especially large doses of iodine, it starts to displace the other Halides causing a detox effect. These Halides many times will come up to the surface of the skin and cause irritations, rashes and other issues. If you continue taking Iodine, these issues will eventually disappear once your body has ejected the other Halides. Usually within 3 to 7 days or so.
