Was Kristoph Gavin Ace Attorneys Best Or Most Flawed Villain? 

i was working on this in the background of that sparkvideo, i love Kristophs Character despite his flaws! i hope you enjoyed, i toned the editing down a bit because i want it to feel like i'm also directly speaking to you guys! The main issue about Kristoph for me is simply that I wish we’d gotten to see more of his relationship to Klavier! We get hints at it in Succession, but not enough in my opinion. It feels heavily implied Kristoph basically raised Klavier in the absence of their parents, but we don’t have anything confirming that in the game. This is Klavier’s brother we’re talking about, and an important relationship that forms both Kristoph and Klavier’s characters! I mean Kristoph most likely wasn’t always a bad brother, and that’s part of why it’s so hard for Klavier when all this is revealed. I also would’ve loved to see his mentoring of Apollo more as it’s supposed to be an important relationship to Apollo’s character, but we barely get any insight into it before Kristoph is in handcuffs, and we don’t see Apollo to torn up about it throughout the game. He was mentored by this man for a year!

So a couple of extra things I have about Kristoph: first, it took me a few playthroughs and watching others' to realize that the "Devil" Vera mentions seems to refer specifically to the back of his scarred right hand, namely when it tenses up and resembles a ghoulish visage. Second, those black Psyche-Locks are given some more elaboration in Dual Destinies, being described as representing a secret someone keeps subconsciously, without even being aware of it, and forceful attempts to remove them by presenting evidence evidence can cause permanent emotional and spiritual damage, i.e. what basically seems to have happened to Kristoph at the end of Turnabout Succession.

Kristoph is a character I wish would just come back. He's too interesting of a character to be relegated to a single game that is never referenced in the series.

I kind of like Spark Brushel honestly. Out of all the journalist characters in Ace Attorney, Investigations, Great Ace Attorney and the Layton Crossovers he's the ONE journalist character who ISN'T either a culprit or some self-serving bint *cough*Lotta Heart and Nicole Swift*cough* Is he weird? Yeah, but at least he's forth-coming with information.

Kristoph ligitmently scares me too. Like... His pettiness is literally the perfect motivation for a boogyman, it makes the atrocities he commits seem even more senseless. To me he is worse then the phantom cuz of it. Like the phantom has proper motive and crap but kristoph is just bonkers. Funny, he's actually my favorite villain in the series barring maybe Gant and Calisto. It's a mix of terror and amusement for them and just plain terror for Krissy.

Imo he is only max "good" villain but not amazing Cause of several reasons This is my opinion on him. 1.Underutulization Kristoph is not given enough screen time to fully develop his character. His appearances are limited It honestly felt like capcom forgot he existed and then at the last second they realize "ooh he is the final villain" He appears for like a hour in 4-4 which is insulting 2.lack of foreshadowing In the earlier parts of the game, there is little foreshadowing of Kristoph's true nature. 3. His relation to Apollo and Klavier It is laughable to be frank. Why wasnt this relationship developed. Why should I care about kristoph if apollo does not? Same goes to kristoph and klavier relationship- i didnt care about it 4. You dont give the final blow to his plans which makes it less satisfying - it is also worse cause apollo forgets about the jurist system which is insulting to his character. 5. His plan for framing phoenix for disbarrment. Oh god - the stupid disbarrment Putting aside that this is completely out of character for phoenix to fall for this trick Kristoph's plan for disbarring phoenix relies purely on luck(that phoenix will present it and everyone being an idiot). This honestly makes kristoph kinda pathetic and not really smart to not plan anything cohesive. 6.this is bias argument here but his motive is a bit too petty imo. And ergo not compelling. 7. His actions does not make characters develop. This is an easy one No characters develop especially trucy which is a shame Apollo doesnt develop cause well his relationship with kristoph sucks in writing pov And Klavier was already caring for the truth from the get go so no development And phoenix is contradictory so not him either 8. His involvement in 4-1 Kristoph is really obvious culprit His twist is only for shock value Logic on why he is accused does not make sense(calling victim bald) since he could have said that he saw his head after they greeted each other before the murder Also when apollo and phoenix accused Kristoph of lying about seeing the murder scene through the small window (after revealing the secret tunnel), Kristoph could have easily countered that argument by stating that he saw the scene AFTER the actual murder,set up the scene and escaped through the tunnel. Moreover, there's not an iota of conclusive evidence indicating his presence inside the room. I don't know why he didn't argue right there which makes him again not smart for plot reasons - so he is inconsistent. Sometimes he is smart sometimes he isnt. You know what would be in character for him? To not say to phoenix that Shadi was bald cause that came out as unnatural and have him claim that he was there at the scene of the crime to protect phoenix from being accused. He would argue that he tampered with the scene to make him less suspicious and this would make him more smart but nope Frankly I think this twist shouldnt be in 4-1 cause not only it is illogical but it also make him really underwhelming Still a good villain but I cant see why fans will call him amazing since he has this many problems

Honestly the biggest problem with him is that he feels more like Phoenix villain, than Apollo and Klavier villain, wich makes him somewhat underwhelming since this is supposed to be Apollo's story, not Phoenix (i really like him having involvement with him, and being the reason that Phoenix lost his badge, but it feels like they could do more with him to tie him better to the other characters), so the villain should be someone who has more involvement with the protagonist. Also it feels odd how we barely know how Klavier feels about his brother being a actual criminal, i wish we got more interactions between these two and a insight on Klavier

the best Villain in my opinion was Bobby Fulbright.

He's the best mainline villain, but not the best villain in the entire franchise. That honor goes to... MASSIVE SPOILERS!! Simon Keyes.

I think a lot of it comes from the fact that his story arc was seemingly abandoned. Shu Takumi seemed to have created Kristoph as the next Manfred von Karma, a story that also factored into Phoenix's disbarment and all the other mysteries in Apollo Justice. Then Takumi stopped working on the main series, the new writers tried to win back the fans by giving Phoenix his badge back, and Duel Destinies took the story in a completely new direction. Now, I like Duel Destinies and Spirit of Justice. I like Athena Cykes and Simon Blackquill. But I do kinda wanna see what would've happened if we stuck to the original arc. From what we've seen in Apollo Justice, I think he had the potential to be one of the most terrifying villians in the entire series.
