Yup, you are so right to categorize this speech by Tony Morris as being coercive and pressuring of members. They practice this ALL THE FRIGG'N TIME! And that's why when JWs finally wake up they realized that they could NEVER do enough in this cult! They all say the exact same thing, "No matter how much I did, it was never enough."

Such a good point Wally that this sister was not able to access the zoom. How did she go to other’s places if you weren’t allowed to be in contact with other people through the pandemic? She was lonely and unable to connect as she didn’t have the technology to do so.

And the thing is, even if a JW really did find the meetings valuable for whatever reason, the travel time saved by attending via zoom vs in-person is going to make any person with children or a job or lack of gas money, pick attending via zoom. Of course, ole drunk Tony isn't going to go out for a drink with the likes of me, but if he ever did, I'd tell him to only have in-person meetings twice a month, or better yet once a month. With zoom meetings the rest of the time. People might be willing to delay their inevitable leaving of the organization if they only had to go to an in-person meeting once or twice a month. My prediction, coercing/punishing people for not coming to twice a week in-person meetings will help many to solidify their decision to leave the organization.

Not too easy to keep it's members brainwashed not having them in person at the meetings huh! The congregation I was in lacked true friendship because everyone is competing with each other and constantly reporting each other. I'm not surprised that many don't want to return to in person at the meetings. The knowledge that is taught at kingdom halls is a awesome way to become a Bible scholar. I still honestly agree with about 95% of their teachings. But the shunning, not partaking of the Lord's evening meal, calling their leaders in New York "the faithful and discreet slave" and the rule that no men can wear a beard are all control tactics. Jehovah wants willing devotion not scare tactics.

It was the thought of having to go back to in person meetings and eventually do some actual ministry that prompted my move from PIMO to start a fade. (I used to join the zoom field service - which was mind numbing and boring and would write my diary while pretending to write a letter!) I’ve never been happier. ☺️

I'm happy to hear that they are having trouble getting people back into the KH and reading comments from those that have left due to the pandemic. The guilty feelings was the hardest for me to recover from for a long time, even though I left 20ish years ago due to it being drilled into me as a born-in. It's so true, if something feels unnatural then go with that gut feeling then stop and leave the situation. Our instincts is what lets us know what is safe for us. Left in March of 2014... What a relief after serving as an elder for 11 yrs and resigning and leaving along with my entire family including a son who served 5 yrs at bethel. When I first made up my mind, i remember my first saturday morning waking up at about 9:00 no rush to go to the KH to conduct service just slowly gathering myself to head to breakfast and feeling the biggest relief of my entire life!!!! I'm the happiest Ive ever been just wish I could have experienced it earlier since I was was there from age 21-41... But happy to be out and focusing my attention on meaningfull things 🙏🏼

What about the Sunday meeting he missed whilst driving miles away from bethel to the liquor store to get his supply of fine whiskey?

And GB says to go in person meetings, that's going against government recommendations ... The problem is especially dire in the greater Montreal region. For weeks, emergency rooms including Ste-Justine Hospital’s have been overflowing with children suffering from respiratory distress and covid. At Ste-Justine, the crisis has reached unprecedented levels. Ste-Justine is Montreal's biggest children's hospital Nothing like going to the KH, hugging and kissing and spreading death. I love how very little they ever report on numbers in the U.S. it's mainly always "other countries" or very poor places in other countries that they use as examples. It's a subliminal way to say "hey people, this lady in this third world country who barely has her basic needs met, while you live in luxury...she's going to meetings so why arent you"

Maybe the people who aren't going back to the Kingdom Halls had already been considering leaving the JWs at the time the pandemic started, and saw the transition to online meetings to be the perfect opportunity to leave without being noticed.

Just shows nothing is really joyful about being a Jehovah Witness. JWs felt what it was like to just be “regular”. I guess it would be their subconscious telling them one thing which makes coming in person a challenge. That was one of the big things for me because i always felt like I was pushing myself to go to the meetings. Always had a dark cloud over me on Mons Thurs and Suns.

About 35 years ago we had a JW in our company. From what I remember, he had no friends and no one wanted to work with him.

Covid was horrible for all of us, but a good thing came out of it. It gave Jehovah's Witnesses time to examine everything in this, "in your face controlling religion". The GB had to remove some of their grip on people, during covid restrictions Lo and behold, some people escaped, and some still are escaping.

Now they do not quote the Bible anymore, they quote themselves with their own publications as a source

It seems the lock downs have done one thing really well, it made people realize going to the meetings sucks lol. Sitting there for hours every year listening to the same garbage year after year after year. "We rejoice to be able to meet in person again", Covert verbal abuse happens when someone tells you how you feel, what you think, or what you need or want. This happens in abusive controlling relationships all the time. They try to set a standard/example in hopes that you will feel guilty, Watchtower is abusive, end of story.

But who was getting home at 10:30 at night after a weekday meeting?? Well, I guess if you had family members who talked a lot or had responsibilities or even kingdom hall clean up....or had a long drive back home. Okay, I answered my own question.

I have no doubt that Morris couldn't wait to get back to a live audience that treats him like a celebrity. He wasn't getting his ego stroked on zoom.

Woman from the Congo at 11m says she couldn't go to KH meetings, due to covid restrictions, but weren't gatherings of more than a couple of people from the same family also banned. They were in the UK and US but Africa may have been different. Meetings throughout the country, US and UK, have far lower attendances now it's back to the halls, attendance at my old kh is 30-40% lower according to the woman I know who still attends. This is after they amalgamated 2 congregations into one and closed the other kh locally, Covid gave many jw the excuse they needed to drift away quietly, the trouble is they never leave you alone until you get very abrupt and say "LEAVE ME ALONE".

I remember clear as day, those Saturday Mornings 10 years ago; I was recently out of high school, struggling to manage my time between a trade school, and a part-time job that didn't pay enough; and I just couldn't bare to spend any of my leftover free time in field service or at the meetings. So on Saturdays, I would just pretend as hard as I could to sleep through all my mom's attempts to shake me awake; I'm really not a hard sleeper at all, but I knew if I ran out the clock, they would have to go without me, and then I could spend a morning playing video games as soon as they left. It was much harder to get out of the Sunday meetings though, since they were so late in the afternoon. I had always intended to fade, as soon as I was free and on my own. But eventually, I realized that I was just being a coward, living a lie because I was afraid to confront my parents, and disappoint so many people. I also realized, that I would maybe never be able to afford to live on my own making as little as I was. Haha. I had never been baptized, because I always felt out of place. But they still put me in the back room with an Elder, when I expressed my decision to stop attending. He couldn't believe my reasoning, and was clearly unprepared for how certain of my decision I was (And as someone plagued with doubt my whole life to that moment, so was I.) Later that night he called me, and his last ditch effort was to tell me that my decision to leave the organization, was 'selfish'. He said it like it was such a terrible thing. to base YOUR own decision, about YOUR own life, and how YOU want to live it, on YOUR own wants and dreams. "Yes" I laughed as I replied to him. "I guess it is selfish, or self-centered, but it is my life, so I think it's fair to be a bit self-motivated."

Oh Morris, let me tell you, wherever you do, there is many pimo ( physically in, mentally out) who are not coming back to the kingdom halls. All over the world people are not attending meetings. In Mexico in my ex congregation the attendance is around 40 , when before was more than one hundred. So, yea the organization is going down. 👍

It's so frustrating how they have no interest in even talking about WHY those people who might not want to attend in person are having that "struggle". I'm sure there are plenty of PIMIs who feel guilty for not attending when they're "physically able" (by the standards of whomever), so to have it be addressed as more of a "see how bad these people have it and you don't even care!!!!" rather than something they could be even slightly empathetic about is so stupid. I think it's good that they're bad at what they do, but it's also really annoying to see how they employ these guilting tactics lol

I had an idea who one of my accusers/witnesses were but never were two identified. I guess they weren't needed. I was brought up on charges that I was associating with a disfellowshipped person, so I brought him to my judicial meeting to testify that we never associated under any circumstances. The elders didn't think it was funny. We sure did. He had to sit outside while I told the elders to get bent for 45 minutes, then we went out to shoot pool and get drunk. Man I miss those times.

How does one find a mate, after these people have inflicted their terror on family, at the age of 62? These people systematically, completely and totally destroyed my life. I can not hide who I am, I can not be myself, forgot who that is, and my family has been torn apart. So, I do not even have family to share with another person.

Even when I was firmly “in” meetings were tedious.

I'm honestly kind of surprised they didn't just sell off all the Kingdom Halls and then just make everyone get VR headsets so they can attend meetings in virtual reality. All that property just sitting around likely costs a lot of money, so they really need people returning to the halls.

And, we all know there exists over-zealous members who love to send letters like this to the GB so that they can be read to their slacking members. There is SO MUCH PHONINESS in this religion - I KNOW, I was personally affected to the point of becoming one of those phonies, something I always abhorred when growing up. OK, never been baptised, thankfully, but we still get them coming to our door , my wife was home alone and they spent more than 5 mins nocking the dam door while our dog went Bat Sh@t crazy attacking the actual door . Years ago , 2014, I even joined the ministry school etc. Last attended the memorial 2016. My wife (not a study but an amazing lady who has supported me going to the hall since 1988, ok ?) she got love bombed and i was left on my own.... hope they fall soon and i will welcome them with arms wide open to comfort them when they start to realise the LIES.... we are now writing a plaque to put in our front garden with words to the affect " we do not welcome you, if you insist on knocking you hereby agree to pay us £20 a minute to listen to you"
