My go-to in situations like these ultimately comes down to trust. If you can't trust your partner anymore, whether you have good reason or not, the relationship is already over. Stop clinging to someone you can't build trust with.

Yeah, apparently there are people who have rebuilt trust after an affair or something, but I have no idea how they accomplished it. Major couple's counseling I guess. I feel like the kind of person who would be really good at empathizing with your hurt feelings and making amends is also the kind of person who wouldn't violate your trust in the first place.

I was almost believing she was overreacting UNTIL she revealed he told everyone at work that SHE was suspicious - and he didn’t even correct it. THAT alone shows me that he’s a cad. Lol. Life is OBVIOUSLY more complex than that. You have kids, finances and destabilizing your life things to consider. Plus most women after a certain age have close to a zero chance of finding anyone else who would marry them and take them seriously. Conventional wisdom isn’t always best especially given that most men are wired to like more than one woman. She may drop one man and end up with another twice as bad, especially since the new man didn’t earn her in her youth (so he may not value her as highly). Biology just happens. Interest will naturally wane in any partner but she is accelerating it by living only for him and blasting him on every female he talks to. It’s hard to gain lost attraction, but if I were her, I would try to look my best, and stop chasing him. Step back and let him figure out why you are emotionally distant to reignite attraction and stop co-signing his threats. Next time he threatens to sleep with someone help him do it. Men respect women who are completely unbothered.

Trust goes beyond cheating or being faithful. When trust is lost it is sad and almost impossible to regain without a man being very intentional and transparent. He said most the time I tell her the truth but when someone lies to you sometimes you never know when, you think they're lying all the time.

They are both recoving addicts, which means that they have zero skills on how to build a healthy relationship. Go for counseling as a couple and learn, or separate and heal as individuals before getting involved with anyone again.

I think the latter is probably their best bet. If they can manage to date someone who has a history of healthy relationships that person can maybe help break them out of their habits. Most likely someone with normal expectations wouldn't put up with them for very long though, and they'll continue to attract people like this, again and again. That's what I think is happening with the women who claim "all men are liars and cheaters", to them this has been the case because that's who they keep attracting and tolerating.

Haylee, when someone shows you who they are, BELIEVE them. You are lying to yourself by telling yourself that he can be a better person. This IS who he is and we either accept people at face value or don't accept them. Girl, you NEED to get therapy to understand why you tolerate this level of treatment from any man because if you don't then you'll just find the same kind of man next time... only thing different will be his name. When we know better then we DO better, so pack your bags, leave this person in the dust, seek therapy to figure out who in your life made you feel unworthy/unvalued so you can get healing for that, get healthy and choose a good man. You deserve better. Remember, you can be with someone and be lonelier than you would be than if you were actually alone. You're better off alone for awhile until you get the healing you need and deserve.

It’s probably a good time to just live separately and work on sobriety and deal with some personal demons and come back together as a married couple. These problems are his and not his wife’s. Addicts are very impossible to be married to until they are very established in their recovery which takes time and sincere effort. He’s using the other woman as a drug/a high.

87% of the relationships out there are like this. Relationships are struggling on an all time high right now divorce rates are spiking as well. Baby Boy marries mommy then they pop out a couple kids. Suddenly baby boy decides he doesn’t want to grow up and mommy takes custody rinse and repeat dozens of relationships are like this.

They can work out out if they work in their attachment problems. Addiction, lying and low tolerance for boredom comes from somewhere. This man likely grew up in a family where he wasn't believed and he was punished unreasonably. But, he's responsible for his life now. The lady probably also grew up with abuse / neglect since she's just so anxiously grasping onto him. She's actually pushing him away. Individual work is needed. The lady will need to detach from the victim/chaser identity and to give this man room to grow. And this man will need to detach from his identity of deep shame and self loathing. I've seen people come together with new identities, but only after they both individually have a real break from their old selves, so much that they're like two different people. It has to get to a point where they don't experience the world as they used to, then they can exist in a different way. Kind of a Dark Night of the Soul. Identity break. Breaking something to build something new. It's got to be done Individually. Then they'll need to decide if the new selves want each other.

Yes! At 13:44, she says, “All his actions say different from his words.” He’s shown her exactly who he is. It doesn’t matter if they’ve been together for 13 years, 13 months, or even 13 weeks. Time to quit trying to change him, or expecting him to become the man that you know he should be, and develop a stronger backbone for yourself in order to move forward without him. You’re both setting bad behavior patterns for your children to learn from. It’s time to take corrective action, even if that means divorcing.

I can't accept him. He refuses to give me what I need. But we have a family and 13 years... So help me figure out how to trust somebody that continues to lie and hurt me? So our kids can grow up in this hellhole of abusive relationship and learn that hellhole = love because the next 13 years is gonna go by so it might as well be in a hellhole that feels redundant, repetetive, and comfortable rather than create or find alternative solutions, like taking responsibility for our own individual lives especially if that includes letting go of the illusion of control over my spouse's choices... - because that ship has sailed. The only choices we can control are our own. Duh.

These people are gonna be married for the next 50 years. They're from sparta, this is just normal there. The entire town is dysfunctional, which is why the rest of us pretend it doesn't exist, and then we pray we don't have to drive through it. Her best bet would be to move to nashville or knoxville and start a new life. Maybe change her name, something fun, something flirty, and make up a new origin story. She won't, but she should.

I hope these 2 don't have children, they probably do. The male I was married to was a liar & manipulator, too. I learned his "language" early on. "I just sat on a bed in her hotel & talked" = I met her in a hotel, we had sex, I cheated on you. "You spent too much on groceries" = I bought a big ticket item, behind your back, so, the family needs to eat less. "Are you looking at that guy? Do you know him?" = I cheat on you, I know you won't cheat on me, I'm still jealous "I need you to pay the whole mortgage from your account this month, not half" = I was irresponsible with my spending. After realizing, that I was really tired of being the adult while he preferred to remain as an adolescent, I was done. I had never cheated on him, I was too busy taking care of the 4 kids, the house, the dog, the cars, the yard, the hot tub, his military duties that he delegated to me. People kept telling me that he would grow up, he would mature, things would change, things would get better. I was sick of waiting, sick of the disrespect, the lies, the cheating. I financed the divorce. He is married to someone else, still pulling the same crap on her. Happy to be free of being married to someone who was so selfish & immature. Life is good.

If hes selectively telling her the truth then everything is a LIE! She can't trust him. He destroyed that. He also refuses to own that he created this situation! They need to get divorced. Everything out of his mouth is a LIE. How could she possibly gauge when hes telling her a truth vs. a lie? Quick answer, she can't. Divorce ASAP.
