The question is if the bike is BT Moto tuned, you’ve never rev bombed the bike, you keep up your service at the dealer, and then you have an engine problem, would your claim be denied? That’s what people want to know. As long as we don’t abuse the bike, but have a tune, people dont want to have claims denied on engine issues for these expensive bikes. A wheel is not the concern. Legally we’d be protected for that. That very specific question is what makes us nervous because the service manager is basically just saying he’d submit the facts honestly to BMW “and leave it up to them.” I, by the way, have the BT stage one and don’t abuse the bike and hope I’ll never have to test this.
@firstbloood1 BMW can see that the bike was flashed even if you flash it back to stock. Not sure the dealer can see it, but BMW can when they try to get a claim approved.
Great explanation that fully comports with my experience. My motor blew at 16K miles and it had a stage 2 Brentune. BMW not only replaced the motor with a brand new one, but also the oil cooler, front sprocket (hit by a flying rod), chain, two oiled Q4 tires and a free 600mile service. BMW was awesome. MT-moto also was great.

I agree with another poster, Why the click bait title saying you "broke your bike" then make a whole video about how you actually "didn't break it" and it was covered.
@@j.taveras8447 the title can be open to interpretation as it’s vague, but something did break that cost thousands, and it got fixed. The process of the warranty is what was more important to show.

I would go with Rotobox wheels; easily the best carbon wheels in the world for motorcycles...You definately don't want to use a s1000RR as your 'daily' transportation. Get the hayabusa for that....
In some cases I wish bmw could be more involved with dealerships. My local dealer states to not put an aftermarket exhaust on the bike because it will blow the motor.

Pity there was not more discussion on the wheel failure itself and its causes or how BMW or the dealer examine the crack and determine that the wheel is a total write off. I have read that in many cases of "cracks" all that has happened is that the finishing coat of lacquer has cracked but that the main carbon fibre structure of the wheel is undamaged. That crack seemed like a stone impact so in my view it was just the lacquer that cracked. I have 10,000km up on my 2021 S1000 carbon wheeled bike now and the wheels are still perfect. I did have a minor impact rear end traffic accident in 2022 but the dealer determined from visual inspection that the rear wheel was undamaged.
The biggest reason that this is such an issue is the fact that you had 2 massive influencers have 2 massively different experiences with BMW....one flashed their bike early, put an exhaust on it, got on a racetrack and had a failure and a hole put in his motor and he got a replacement motor covered under warranty in less than 30 days. You had another who flashed his at 350 miles, put an exhaust on it, had a failure, somewhat got the run around from a 3rd party warranty representative, had a very reputable BMW mechanic show the most likely cause of the failure (rod end cap being loose), and was told to pound sand and had to foot the bill to teh tune of 15 grand for a new motor. From there, it has escalated to every person who was ever denied a claim on a coil to anyone that had anything at all get denied going public about it, large numbers of dealers that are now telling customers not do mod their bike or they will be denied service (I was literally told this by my local dealer 3 weeks ago after I purchased an M1000RR) and the fallout is TREMENDOUS....to the point I will not mod my bike until I know there are no assembly issues or possible defective bearings (this is widely believed to be the issue with the one that failed on the racetrack). There is literally a ton of innuendo about each incident and it would behoove BMW to go public as to why it reacted to each of these incidents in the way that they did, as its a HUGE hit to their reputation. It would also behoove them to direct dealers to NOT inform customers that their warranties will be denied wholesale if they have any modifications. On top of that, there are other NEW M1000RR's out there with failing motors that arent being publicized, as I know of a few....which considering I own one, its disheartening....and hence why many of us who do own them are ensuring that we do what we can to ensure the bike is solid before doing anything at all on the bikes until we are relatively sure we dont have a defect. If it wasnt for all the publicity, I would have had a BT Tune and full exhaust on my bike the day that I did the first service.
@@BT_Moto They (the internet LOL) said it was one over rev of 250 rpm....if we are saying that motomillion "abused" that motor and that 1 over rev is what caused the issue with the end cap...then BMW should come out and say that or come clean and publicize exactly what they saw in the datalog. It would HELP their reputation and calm down the blowback of this whole situation...Do I think they should have to do this for every claim, absolutely not, however this occurrence, and the other 2 widely publicized occurrences are absolutely affecting their reputation and I assume sales...
To be completely open...I own a 2024 M1000RR...I absolutely will be putting BT Moto mods on the bike...however I am also not doing it until I shakedown the bike with a few 1000 miles before doing so....literally because of the 3 widely publicized issues and a few more that I have heard about that are less public (also on M series bikes). I am just trying to be logical in my arguments about the current state we find our trust being at with BMW...and the wide disparity of information we get from dealer to dealer.... I took my 22 to get that 1 year 5000 mile service done had your tune and the still did the service. I had told them it had a tune they said ok. Only they said to me was the fact the mileage wasn’t at the 5k mile but the date on the pop said was due.
I’ve had my S1000rr M pack since 2020, and a lot of pot holes, bumps even a flat tyre, due to screw, and had no cracks, just hope my carbon wheels don’t crack, though I would have thought it would have done so by now
This was an issue with the 2020 & 2021 models as well Long and short of it if the bike is modded , warranty is voided. The manufacturer at its discretion will honour the warranty claim or not
Well I bought a 2020 S1000RR when it came out and fitted a full akrapovič system from the dealer. It wasn't tuned because here in South Africa the bike is not restricted at all. The last issue it gave me had to do with the camshaft and they replaced it under warranty. I took good care of the bike so yeah, they can't deny your claim if you weren't a hooligan with the bike.

Never seen a dealer decline warranty for straps unless you have blown forks and claiming warranty with the straps. Again this comment is based on no knowledgement of how warranty works. My local BMW dealerships would have no issues warranting out a wheel even when lowered. That has no effect to how the carbon wheel let alone a rear wheel would be cracked.

@@jasperpearce8316 The point is that it was explained in the video why it wouldn't make sense for it to be denied. The crack was in the middle of the wheel not in the lip where you would expect a crack from an impact implying that it's most likely a defect. Also due to the cost the repair the decision on if it should be warrantied is up to BMW not the dealership. This is pretty much how BMW operates with their cars as well so it might be different than other motorcycle brands.
Carbon wheels are banned in MotoGp because they crack n shatter under intense ridding conditions. Not only banned in there banned in almost al racing circuits
The carbon wheels are not banned at circuits for track days, they are likely banned at most circuits for pro racing...not personal use. No professional racing body allows carbon wheels.

It's not because carbon wheels are the problem. It's because moto gp racing/bikes requires specific weight for the wheel and tire compounds combined for the tire to work properly. That is literally the only reason why. The forks on a moto gp bike are mostly carbon fiber.

@R2690-f3y Yes, he was full of shit. I was at MotoGP with Michelin. What I'm saying isn't from public speculation or media talk. The bikes are so forceful that the tire won't be able to maintain traction. The wheels they use are quite heavy.
Rear carbon rim on my M1000XR has something loose inside that makes noise when I turn the wheel. It is not inside the tire, but inside spokes I presume. Interestingly enough I had the exact same issue on my front carbon BST wheel a while back , but BMW case is a bit louder. Wonder if you guys have seen this before?

I have very interested in the BT tune but afraid when I see videos of S1000rr engines blowing off. Last week I asked a bmw dealer I want to put a full exhaust on my bike. You will laugh what he replied to me. Don’t put a full exhaust it will damage your engine 😊😊😊
Is it true dealerships usually lose money on warranty work? All the time and hassle to put the claim together...then if finally approved doesn't the manufacturer then expect the dealership to do the work in an unreasonably short amount of time?
One thing though. Bt moto used to increase rpm limits in all their tunes. This may have changed now, but something to bear in mind with this discussion.
@@BT_Moto yeah I've got nothing against it. I raised my R limiter to 12.5k with my remap. I'll be raising it to 13k when I fit the RR airbox and servo. Just worth noting as this whole conversation seemed to be about over revs.
I am planning on paying my MT-10 SP off by the end of 2025 and BMW was on my radar but this is the only liter bike that seems to have these types of videos. The R1 would be a great choice but Yamaha might just end up discontinuing it for us in the US.
If you have a tune and exhaust bike will go faster and this is maybe a cause to wheel crack also , seems legit if you think about it. Carbon fiber for track or show room😂 Maybe beacause its a void to the warranty , u can only change to a slip on not full exhaust , they said this to me. So 3 years with slip on and warrnty , then buy 2 year more . Or go full exhaust and no warranty 🎉 bmw is Great u can also buy a service package :)
I have the same bike and had my front wheel rims cracked the day i took the bike from the showroom and BMW UAE denied my claim. The same happened to my friends 2022 M1000rr and the claim was denied without any explanation.
My dealer says stress fractures in the carbon rims are surface cracks (cosmetic) and will NOT be warrantied… if the structure is compromised, they will replace them. He recommended not buying them for any bike that ever sees a street.

I have a 2024 and my dealer straight up said exactly what you repeated dealers are saying “Don’t mod the bike. At all”. I want your tune to smooth out the midrange… I don’t like the way it feels like a 600 with the stock tune… nothing… nothing… nothing… 8k RPM. 💥 and it tries to tear ya off the damn thing.
I bought the insurance from them for my tires and when my tire blew out they decline my claim because I use 90% of the threading on my tires like they never told me that
Really, look at any social media video, that's half the content. Rev bombing for exhaust noise, burnouts can cause it too. or just watch any video from Brazil.
I had my s1000r drop out of gear once after a quickshift, at full throttle at high speed. Revs went very high briefly. Wonder if that logged an OR condition...
Im curios he mentioned the word racing somewhere along the lines if your racing your bike bmw might deny the claim. Could you touch on that are we talking like a roll races or whats exactly is meant by that
Don't abuse the bike or cause the bike to record a parameter beyond normal use. "Racing" isn't a recorded data event ...that is just using the bike. Now if while "racing" you over revved, rode the bike beyond operating temperature, or downshifted into repeated redlines ie...seems like that would be the issue....which this translates into miss use or abuse, or operating outside of normal parameters.
There is also another same incident which happened in india where the carbon wheels got cracked the rider filled up the air again and again they could not thought that the carbon wheel can crack in the brand new vehicle the same vehicles engine blown up below 2000 km the bike was stock so they did replace the engine .. these carbon wheels are very sketchy ..
Based on the info and explanation, the simple answer is no. But they will be all in your shit to make sure the engine and motorcycle were taken care exactly as per the manual.
@@Ken_Myette It was at Hampton NH. Dropped my bike off due to a non start issue. Cranks but doesn’t start. A week goes by, got a call from the service manager to bring the bike home. It’s fixed? No, boss said we don’t service any s1000 RR, R, XR unless it’s stock. Too many modifications and don’t want to deal with it. I’m like dude, why didn’t you tell me that before I dropped my bike off. Super pissed. Yet they still have S1000 bikes on the floor for sale.

I was just making an analogy between BT's dealer and mine.. seems BT's dealer is 100% for their customers as mine is not...maybe the owners of my dealership could very well be from NK... They actually told me one time that if I install an Evo tech rad guard it will void the warranty on my 22 S1000R, I needed to put BMW's guard to retain warranty... I was like um yeah OK

I have asked a BMW dealership if you fit a full racing exhaust will the warranty be void? The salesman informed me that the engine would not be covered.
@@mjdc4056 that means they would turn you away but dealers do not have authority to void anything. That decision is made by bmw after they prove the modification caused the issue. Just go to another dealer in your case.
@@BT_Moto The problem with that is that BMW is not Harley...they dont have 2-3 dealerships in every 50 mile radius....and even then, you are going to a dealer that you dont have a relationship with and are hoping they arent operating any differently than the one who just denied your claim. You have the benefit of having an OUTSTANDING dealer with a fantastic Service Manager...this problem isnt just BMW, its EVERY manufacturer...
@@oifvet2x Everyone says this....however until you try fighting them over it, you have no idea how tall that mountain is. IF you are going to fight, I can tell you that the manufacturers legal department gets involved, you will be paying for a lawyer, and it will be at significant costs, as they will be delaying a number of times. I was interviewed by my local news when I tried to fight and even then it did nothing. Also remember that the entire time you are fighting you will not be able to repair the bike as well. IN my case I was fighting over a car, so I eventually had to come to grips with the fact I spent over 3k in legal fee's and STILL had to pay to fix my car and had to drop the case because it was going to be drawn out so long that it wasnt worth it. The ONLY way you will succeed is if you can bring a class action and have multiple parties joining in. Trust me..I tried...
How else are you going to let cars know your pissed off if you don't revv bomb? Or let people know you have a cool motorcycle?lol I probably did it a few times out of the dozen bikes I owned in 20 years. due to misshift, false neutral and accidently maxxed out the rpm accidentally of of a turn. Just about every damn vids I watch have kids doing this..
Or you could just not buy bmws because they’re garbage and blow up and not even the fastest bike or even close to the fastest bike for that matter.. all h2s, v4r , v4s , rsv4 , Honda rrr , zx10rr all bikes capable of pumping out larger numbers after modification and probably all more reliable while they do it
I think your reliability claim is WAY off basis...as I have seen EVERY bike you listed have MAJOR issues..... THe thing with BMW is that everyone is airing their experiences quite loudly every since the highly publicized failures. Also, if you look at the Japanese manufacturers, the lifecycle on their designs are 10-15 years, where as Ducati and BMW are a LOT faster than that...they do massive changes every 3-5 years...the true answer is EVERY manufacturer has issues, but if you have a BMW it will be plastered all over the web...LOL
