Jun casually asking if a noun is countable or not and then adjusting is so cute, he tries so hard. I don't think I would have the patience for a relationship where we have to constantly teach each other our languages and put so much effort and thought into getting better. I think a lot of people in Jun's position would just consider themselves fluent (me included), and just not sweat the small stuff. You guys are great.

In fact, Rachel, wearing long sleeves while gardening/farming is also very common, not only because of the scratches that might happen but for solar protection (skin cancer). Also, I read time ago about why the Japanese farmers use a wet towel around their necks, it's to feel cooler (less heat) till they end their duties. Or something like that

If it's really hot and u don't mind sunburn u can just make or buy arm warmers. But like... Not made from thick material. Something protective and cool so there's no overheating.

It is especially important for redheads. They are much more susceptible to sunburn and skin cancer. Look for UV blocking clothes - there are many hiker brands that are made specifically to block UV (which causes the worst skin damage). How do I know? My wife is also a redhead and we did research before she hiked the Great Divide. I did base camps.

I'm a gardener by profession and when it comes to weeding I try to get away easier. When it comes to my own vegetable garden I like to do the cover it and wait for it to die and turn into soil method. I just covered the area with plastic and left it for a few months. The summer heat will basically cook the weeds into submission and later the soil bacteria and tiny critters will eat whatever is left and also till the soil in the process. And to keep the weeds at bay you can also add whatever mulch on top, like hay, bark and so on. There's a channel called Back To Reality here on RU-vid and they give good ideas on how to grow stuff with minimal effort :D

Hi! You guys might like to look up 'no dig gardening methods' on youtube. Its where you place cardboard or newspaper directly over any weeds or grass, then you place soil and mulch and plants on top of that. Concept is, that the layer of cardboard cuts off the light to the weeds, weed seeds,and grass underneath, stops them from growing (kills them), and eventually (quite fast really), breaks down. As your plants grow, their roots will easily go through the wet, degrading cardboard/newspaper. You can make a small-ish hole in it to help them. This saves you from weeding now and in the future, and holds in moisture. I did this over grassed lawn in my yard for an ornamental garden, and didn't dig up the grass first. So far, I have zero grass in the garden beds, and only the occasional weed in 3 years. Sorry for the long comment. Just a thought. 💜🐨🌴

My grandma is from Japan. She had a twin brother who died at 7 from stepping on a rusty nail. She pushed the importance of vaccines till she passed away. Thank you for mentioning it ❤️ Ps. Oh it's nice to see more people discovering the magic of gardening. My husband and I also live in Japan. We started our garden in May and bought the small plants from the garden center. I think it's too late for seeds. Right now cucumbers grow well and ours are taking off. Tomatoes also do well. We're learning the hard way to make sure we wait till the end of summer or make sure to plant lettuce in the shade. My friends berry plants are super happy. I hope you have a beautiful garden. 🌸

When I lived in Japan I would try to use my coins and add then to my bills so I’d get an even number back in change. like say something costs 427 yen, I would give the cashier 1027 yen so I would get an even 600 yen back. It worked really well! I rarely had too many coins on me

Ok, no joke, but I just moved from Ohio to New York and now work in a office in Manhattan. Not a big company, but legit the other day, our CEO asked his assistant to get him coffee... and she got him one from Dunkin’ donuts. He took one look at it, and said: “no, that’s not coffee. Get me _coffee_ from blue bottle or Maison Kaiser downstairs.” Thoughts that went through my head: A) why did she go further for a dunkin’ donuts?? B) this shit actually is a thing???

Yellow flowers is pumpkin, Jun put a whole tomato, into a pot and it will sprout into at least 10 plants. Put your carrot tops on cotton ball with water on a plate. Dry pea pods, and yes they will sprout. There is always more, I've grown veggies for ten years, in South Australia.

Welcome back. One tipp for the "left over" change. My mother travels a lot and always kept her changes to use it as souvenier in combination with postcards from her trips - postcard+some local coins scotchtaped on and a personal note makes a simple but awesome DIY-gift for friends and family members ;)

That's a great idea! I visited Canada to see an online friend for the first time some years ago and kept a Canadian dime and a two-dollar coin, the latter being part of a good memory. My friend decided to test my Canadian slang randomly at a store by asking me if I had a "toonie". When I looked at him like he'd grown two heads, he, the friends he'd brought, and the cashier all had a good laugh at the American, lol. I really don't think I had a "toonie" at the time, but when I did get one, I sat it aside because of that moment :)

I think it looked more like a mugwort or some other artemisia. Rosemary tends to grow a little lower and bushier.

Yes but you can get the plants that only take 1-2 years until they are ready. My parents just bought some for our allotment.

But once its planted and good to go, you can keep cultivating it FOREVER. there are some abandoned farms here and the barn has fallen over, but the asparagus just keeps on growing (rhubarb too is like that if you like it, but you can start eating it the second year if you plant a plant (seeds will probably take too long))

LOL No it is squash yellow to be specific and ready to pick and steam for lunch. as a gardener let me suggest you clear one bed sized spot at a time so you can plant right away. Do a little bit everyday and you will enjoy it more.

Was howling as I watched Rachel uproot a rosemary stalk, strawberry plant, and a couple others. Admittedly the garden is a mess, but it's always nice to have established plants you can transplant.

From one gardener to another. When doing a garden area that has been left to go wild, just rip out anything with a seed head. You can turn the rest iver into the soil. It will add nutrients to the soil as it decomposes. Also pull out any vines with woody stems ir ivy if that is in Japan.

I agree. I love growing all sorts of summer squash and this one is either a yellow zucchini squash or just a yellow straightneck squash. With how smooth the skin of the fruit is, I'd say it's a zucchini. Try not to disturb the roots when weeding around it though. Squash hate their roots being disturbed. Also, the flowers are edible.

For what it's worth, there are special long-sleeved shirts you can buy with venting in the armpits designed to promote airflow. I own a few, primarily for sun protection while hiking , and they're surprisingly good at keeping you cool while still protecting your arms.

I have 6 cats, 2 dogs, 2 bunnies, 4 sugar gliders, 1 bird, 2 lizards, 2 tarantulas, and 20 snakes. (Bf is a snake breeder) SO TELL ME ABOUT "many" ANIMALS!! 😂

16:45 Skin irritation from gardening is called "Contact Dermititis" can come from plants such as grevillea, bulbs, daisies, dandelions, chrysanthemum, ivy, tomato plants, zucchini plants, garlic, onion, primrose, poison ivy, mango (often causes a rash around the mouth), Rhus trees, tea tree oil and more.

A hint for gardening and weeding. Don't shake the soil from the roots of weeds it will spread their seeds. Also make sure to toss your soil with a spade. It allows nutrients to get tossed up from the lower soil.
