I feel so validated seeing the absolutely cracked gamer Julia Lepetit struggle with the Orphan I beat Bloodborne in 40 hours and after 80hrs of gameplay, training, etc., I still could not beat him. I totally get it.
Orphan of Kos had me so tilted when I was playing Bloodborne dlc the first time that when I beat him the trophy screenshot was my PS4 background for years.
That’s so relatable though! Whenever I have to work disproportionately hard for something specific in a game, whatever achievement or trophy or item or nicknack I end up getting at the end I display and wear with equal parts pride and spite. It’s the principle of the thing. 😂😤
The first time I beat the Orphan we died at the same time so my trophy screenshot has the "You Died" text all over it. Luckily it still counted as a win lol

I'm so glad the pc talk just happened cuz It completely solidified my belief in just going with saving up for an actual fully new PC after like almost 10 years of this one being a chimera that not even on its last legs but dragging itself to the grave.
Can 100% confirm this is the right call. I spent hundreds of bucks to get the most possible performance out of a grandpa-old 2009 Dell XPS 630i... in 2022... it never fully died, either, it just started crashing sooner and sooner after start up. I managed to get a really cheap refurbished skinny doctors-office kind of computer, and it runs SO much better lol. I have like no point of reference, so I'm happy! I'm still DEFINITELY gonna save up for a bigger, future-proof one. Dell gets a bad rap online for being wimpy and unreliable, so I should probably try to find a better brand... It's really hard to get advice online cuz anyone who knows what they're talking about will also try to insist you have to spend like 10k on a huge see-thru rainbow cube and that's NOT necessary! There's a lotta numbers to juggle in your head when looking for a new PC, separate from the price lol - I actually wrote physical notes and timelines to keep track of everything. But If you're not the kind to obsess over every detail, a pre-built PC from around 2021 could be a real big upgrade and still much cheaper than a super-cutting-edge one! Good luck sticking to your saving plan!

ik julia doesnt like tips from chat but one of the tips that helps me during this fight was that it is better to fight him in the lakes instead of on land because the lakes is flat. theres no change in elevation, there's no rocks, there's not a corpse of a great one hindering you. some of the attacks in phase 2 also becomes clearer to see there EDIT: just got further into the vod, chat did recommend the strat i thought chat didnt lmao

1:16:51 can confirm! I usually mostly just listen to streams but I'm always glued to my screen when Julia is on a boss, especially if it's for a while. I went into this VOD knowing she wasn't gonna beat it (I checked the comments) and I was still like, rapt with attention.

@@TheCookieCrispyou’re not being censored, and you’re allowed to feel the way you do. personally, i don’t really wanna vote either, i don’t think many people genuinely do. it’s hard to feel motivated and involved when all your cards are stacked against you and everything you can choose is bad. nobody’s saying those things aren’t true, it’s just that sometimes as people we have to do things we heavily dislike in order to make our lives and the lives of others better. i like to compare the way voting currently feels to how doing self care can feel with depression. usually you do _want_ to see the improvement, but the idea of following through is uncomfortable and often feels like a losing cause. for some people, it can feel good to get it done even if they were apprehensive at first, while for others it feels more like an obligatory step towards recovery and they just have to fake it until they make it. voting is similar, some people feel that sense of accomplishment and duty and feel that they’re genuinely an important part of the process, while others feel it’s just a formality and discount how much of a difference one vote can make what i like to remind myself, though, is we’re the only people who are going to have ourselves in mind when voting. nobody else is going to do that for us, if we don’t go out there and vote for what we want to see, everyone else is voting with themselves in mind. that’s why unfortunately when a lot of younger voters get stuck in the negative mindset and don’t vote, we get stuck with a lot of legislation that skews in favor of the rich and elderly. it’s hard to feel motivated when the good outcome is for things to remain as shitty as they currently are, but truthfully? i would much rather vote for that than let things spiral further if the other option happens. i would rather vote with others in mind, especially the kids who can’t vote, than not vote for my own comfort and avoid the reality of what’s happening in the world. but that’s just me, you’re also absolutely valid for whatever you choose to do. just do so with an educated mind, rather than an emotional one.

I am so glad to know that Jacob and Julia are as obsessed with Messmer's voice lines as I am. I cannot get that man's voice lines out of my head and I beat him like two weeks ago.
My favourite and most memorable sss souls streams are the ones where Julia is stuck. Its reallt entertaining seeing the gradual progress and learning the fight alongside.
Both Messmer and Midra are my absolute favourite bosses, in _Shadow of the Erdtree_ - and, quite possibly, all of From Software's games, at this stage. I've got nothing else to add; I'm just glad to see the love they're getting, haha.
It must be frustrating to battle the same guy over and over, but I want Julia to know these kinds of streams are perfect to have on while I'm working. That said, if Julia isn't having fun, then don't stress out over this guy! Whether you skip him or do it offscreen, whatever is best for you.

I just feel like, Julia's description of the controls not working is just what Jacob always says. If you panic and you press a bunch of buttons, your character will panic and do unexpecting things like dodging in the wrong direction. That said, that death to lightning was bullshit lol
that thing about julia making people love souls games is so true though. i hadn't played a fromsoft game ever, but the granny smith saga convinced me to buy dark souls remastered on switch, and now elden ring is one of my favourite games ever. i just didn't think i was good enough for fromsoft games until seeing julia absolutely kick ass and it gave me the confidence to try them.

In response to Jacob asking about their audio: Secret Sleepover Society audio is all around pretty good, but it would be amazing if you could somehow get rid of the thumpy rumble that happens whenever you move your microphones. It might be an issue exclusive to headphones capable of bass, but it feels like somebody taps my ear canal whenever it happens. Not in a painful way or anything, just in an "mngh, that's not great." way.

I started playing Dark Souls because of this series, and I'm so glad I did. It's a perfect game style for me. I'll definitely be playing more FromSoft games

There are people who believe they will never ever beat this boss, and the only way to help those people is to join them, stand amongst them, and guide them out. I don't know if Julia's anything like me, but if I'm not enjoying a boss fight but I dont want to give up, I'll go fight some nobodies for a while and get a few Ws. It helps with my mood but it also loosens up my play style which makes me more reactive going back to the boss.
