Ben would so be THAT teacher. You know, the one kids go to when they did something naughty and don't want to get into too much trouble. The one who brings sweets for Valentine's, Halloween and before Christmas break. The kind of teacher that former students say: "Actually, I got into this field because of a teacher who taught me this course..." Yeah, he's that teacher.

Watching Ben talk about Evie made me realise that Jamie's kids are lucky enough to have a whole group of AMAZING uncles who will feed them and pamper them and teach them to swear. What a life :)

It was a great line. But i think remembering when you got something isn’t information everyone would recall. I started baking at the age of 10 (on my own). My parents got me a cookbook when I was 11. I only know that because it was the same year I made a new friend who I made cakes with/for. He was my taste tester. A decade and a half later he still is my taste tester. But now i also get to be an aunt to his kids and make them food 😊. Cooking is a hobby. I specialize more in baking but i love both.

The first thing I cooked for my parents, or for myself, was one of Ben's made personal recipes, the Squid Noodle Salad, I was 13 at the time and it was absolutely amazing, the second thing I cooked for them was a couple of cheese souffles, but they weren't home, so when I discovered that the souffles were sinking, I just ate them.

I don't usually comment on RU-vid videos but this is an exception. Responding to your comments about teaching Ben, I have to say... you're a very good teacher! The instructions are clear and concise but not overly detailed. And like any good teacher, you guys make learning fun and exciting! :) I've been watching you guys since I was about 14 and I've learned SO much over the years! I'm 21 now and living on my own, and I really enjoy cooking for myself and trying new things almost every single day. You guys have helped me see not just the joy and the fun of cooking also the practicality of it. And of course, the inspiration to put my own twist on what I make! Much love to the entire team. I just wanted to say I really appreciate what you do. Especially Ben and James for putting out recipes and tips and tricks that make it so easy for us to recreate all that delicious food at home! Keep doing what you do and I hope the community keeps growing!

Lovely video overall! I, for one, also think that Ben has it in him to be a great teacher. His passion for cooking and his ability to explain things clearly without overcomplicating them is part of what makes a teacher a great one. Guess he could be a decent food science teacher, too! The first dish I ever cooked for the family was a simple spaghetti alla bolognese. Cooked them mushroom & chicken risotto quite a few times, too -- delish! I'll try making them this fish pie, I'm sure everyone's going to dig it. Also, can't wait to see what the book will be like when finished!

First time I cooked (or baked) for my family was a cake with a jam filling . It was a total disaster xD I was 8 years old and took the salt instead of sugar.. But this wasn't the only disaster. Our oven wasn't working like it should be so the cake took 3 hours to bake xD 11 years later and my family still didn't trust me to salt anything xD

Same thing with me Ben. I first baked a coffee cake, something similar to a pound cake, with a butter, sugar, cinnamon crumble. I make it today cause it’s easy and everyone likes it. It was my gateway to baking which lead to my passion for cooking as well. Now I love to entertain and have friends around any chance I can.

I got a Jamie book as my first cookbook as well, coincidentally I was 12! A teacher of mine got it signed for me as her son used to work in Fifteen 🙂 Also I love cooking for my family. Can't really remember the first proper thing I cooked for them but I do remember I liked making breakfast in bed for them. And most recently in October before I came to Australia for a year, I made my mum Sorted's Pork and Apple Stew! Went down a treat 😁

Ben reminds me of me when I was younger, I live for watching cooking videos like yours and Jamie's and an urge to go and create something that's my own, which is difficult to suppress. I feel alive whenever I'm in the kitchen, and SORTEDfood has given me the joy of experiencing this feeling. A simple Spaghetti Bolognese is where it all started for me, because of my love for the Italian cuisine. I was 13 when I made that first dish, and I'm 17 now. The funny thing is, observing my mum in the kitchen made me want to start cooking from the age of about 7, but my mum said it was too dangerous. Talk about suppressed urges to cook, I think that just fueled my passion. 😂💗

Aww that was really lovely video, I like these ones when you guys cook at each other's' houses and basically have a chat. It's so true what you said about that first reaction - first time I ever cooked for any member of my family was soup noodles, no idea what I was doing as I was about ten at the time with my nine year sister as my sous-chef, it had pak choi, egg, sausages and fried spam in it. Frankly must have been horrible because half way in we decided to turn it into a prank and just added every flavour/spice we could find (there are a lot of weird and wonderful things in an Asian kitchen) and we didn't dare taste it. My adult cousin ate it like it was the tastiest bowl of noodles he ever had. (bless him). We didn't dare give it to our father though (he's a chef) I think he probably would have critiqued it and then disowned me!

I was in London on a study abroad about theater in the area, and maybe because I'm not British, but truly, Half a Sixpence just went over my head as to why people enjoy it. Like, I'm glad there are people in the world who enjoy it, so its taking up a theater space is justified. But the whole time I thought I was in some twee otherworld that had no likable characters, but some amazing choreography and dancing that made it clear that there were some truly amazing actors within the cast. Like please. I'd love to have people tell me what they like about the show because I felt very left out when the crowd gave a standing ovation.
