Your body goes to full on war mode which is obviously complete overkill. A problem with a lot of pathogens is that your body recognizes them too late and goes "too softly" on them.

No, Im pretty sure it was called that by Erik The Red to market it to settlers. You might be getting this mixed up with the fact that Greenland was in fact green at one point, but that was 2.5 million years ago. Before Homo Sapiens even existed. Besides, the south of Greenland actually does get really green in the summer anyway, so in essence Greenland is still green.
