I read a comment recently speculating that Wee Bey loved his fish so much because they helped provide him with a sense of having his humanity back. Just caring for something “beautiful” and having the responsibility of keeping something alive without any aspect of the street life or the game.
One interesting aspect of this scene is that it shows us another example of Bey's intelligence: his home is hidden and camouflaged. The location & exterior are unassuming, but hidden inside is a nice, comfortable place. Bey even has the nicer portion separated from the front door by a typically run-down room, just in case someone did try and look in the downstairs window. Even Dee was unable to tell that this was Bey's place from the outside.
No. When you direct and put together a scene, everything in here is here for a purpose. From the colors of the walls, to the lights, the clothes that they're wearing etc. You don't just tell actors "just dress like a gangsta, I trust you, see you on stage" so yeah it was definitely to say smtg about wee bey that his house is like that
You got to give D credit. He took what he thought was an execution like a G. No begging or pleading. Just closed his eyes and waited for the shot even though he was petrified.
apparently the actor who played Bay said on a podcast that he had no idea what D was going through until he watched the show, he apparently wasn't even aware D thought he was about to be killed. Probably served the scene better.
No other show on the planet ever produced such poetically complex characters with such subtlety. This is what made this show so relatable thus popular...it portrays humans and not one dimensional characters. No human being behaves one way in all settings...no matter how feeble-minded they may appear. Especially in this urban type of environment where you are raised to adapt on the fly as a mode of survival. Instincts, common sense and wisdom were what got you through. Violence and crime are secondary tools. The mind. Some of the most intelligent and complex people I've had the pleasure of parlaying with and grew to know jumped off the porch onto some of the toughest blocks of America. Real talk for real.
One of my favorite scenes, you could see his mind running, "this is a set-up, Bey is goona clip me"! Then the relief on his face when the lights come on and he sees all the fish tanks! I was even scared for him when I first saw the scene...
D'ANGELO: [Oh shit.... I'm gonna die.... he's gonna kill me.... he's gonna kill me....] WEE-BEY: "Check it out, D!" D'ANGELO: [Fish? This crazy son of a bitch has a room full of fish? What the fuck?!]
I won't lie...I really thought they were going to kill him. I want to laugh afterwards, but up till that moment when D realises, I understood his fear.
This scene actually shows how courageous D'Angelo is. Alone with one of the most dangerous men in Baltimore while the crew has a ton of heat on them going down a strange alley to an unknown destination. A lot of dudes would have panicked and just flat out ran as soon as they got out of the car
The irony here is that had Wee-Bay really killed D'Angelo, he probably not have gone to prison. After all, D'Angelo did give up Wee-Bay's whereabouts in Philly when he got interrogated.
+AllPureSkill 👑 That shit aint funny man...wordup man....why you tryna play me strike? ion be talkin bout them mufuckin.. fuck that man! **slaps hand away**....ion be talkin bout them mufuckin toys you be playin wit inside yo crib!
when you get out of the game, realize it's not for you, then you realize.... everyone I'm hanging around are absolutely crazy and on the edge of sanity
I hated D from the second scene on He was 100% suckered But this scene crazy because he thought he was going to die and walked into it without a fight. That's not brave..that is the ultimate sucker. A Man dies as Bodie did....or lived as slim chuck did.
@@sitimaan5054 you're the ultimate cringe. He accepted his fate, that's braver than putting a fight. Like when Brother Mouzone or Slim Charles was up against Omar. "No need to prolong this" and "Do what you feel/Come on yo, finish it." Weebay probably would've shot him for real if he started fighting
This scene is similar to Donnie Brasco when Lefty thought he was going to get whacked. They brought him there to give him a tiger. Here it was to feed the fishes.
The funny thing is, it’s later revealed that Wee Bey didn’t even know that D was scared and thought he was gonna be killed. They never even THOUGHT about killing D off (well except Stringer’s snake ass) because he’s family, and they were legit prepping for him to one day be the king. This show really has some great writing man honestly
Thing about this is D actually believed he was going to get killed, and kept going step by step. Kept driving, went inside, closed his eyes ready to be shot in the back of the head. What balls that takes, man. If I thought I was gonna get killed I swerve off the road and run away, I wouldn't just let a mofo kill me with no resistance. Wouldn't you?
Sorry brother I didn't read it fully... You damn right you better do something.....I wouldn't run but I don't blame anyone for it. I dont think walking to your slaughter brave...I think its the opposite of it
D'angelos demeanor when he looked down the ally was true fear. Bey is a cold blooded hitman telling you drive in a dark ally, his life flashed before his eyes.
He did say he was going to show D'Angelo what he needed to do with his tanks. I'd hate to be D'Angelo, though. For all he knew, Wee-Bey was coming back one day, and pulling a water change on a tropical fish tank isn't easy for someone that doesn't know what he's doing.
Uh D'Angelo and a whole lot of others on this show had issues with following orders. I guess that's where the TV part came in because in real life half of them would have been offed.
Scenes like this are what make the show so engaging. If it was simple as cops vs gangs, good vs bad, the show would be worth a few cheap action scenes. They make sure to show the characters as humans whether that’s good or bad. Let’s you make your own impressions on the characters.
