I just realized something. Jonathan telling Sock that he sucks at his job, when you think about it, isn’t actually an insult. Because Sock’s job is to be a nuisance and make Jonathan’s like absolutely miserable in order to get him to off himself. And as Jonathan stated, he sucks at it. Yeah, the way he said it made it sound kinda mean, but he says that it’s the reason he’s still alive. (then again, it’s just my two cents)

Sock: "Do you ever plan to stop responding in clever puns?" Meph: "When this place freezes over." Sock: "But what if I can't do it?" Meph: "Oh, well, then you're fired." Sock: "Ha..." Meph: "That...wasn't a pun." Oh God, did Hell freeze over?

I love the mild implication that god's a woman. -She only gives sundays off and I'M the bad guy. She doesn't even offer dental care!!!

The fact that they used a PENCIL AND PAPER to animate this makes this so much more amazing

Fun little thing in the dialog that you can easily miss. When Mephistopheles is questioning Sock at the end, He's intentionally hitting him with fast questions to put Sock on the defensive to rile him up. And because Sock is on the defensive he clearly states that he likes Johnathan without thinking about it. There is no doubt that Mephistopheles noticed the look Sock made when he saw Johnathan's photo. Due to it being sort of Mephistopheles' job to torment those under his purview, Clearly he knew that the Demon job would ultimately torment Sock in this instance. Basically it's doubly sweet for him because He knows that Sock will either succeed and he gets both Johnathan's soul and Sock's torment of causing the death of someone he likes or Sock essentially torments himself with the fact he wants to be with Johnathan and ultimately cannot truly do so with Mephistopheles not even having to lift a finger until he Fires Sock. No matter what Mephistopheles is winning in this instance with Sock in a personal hell, tormenting himself. Or I'm reading too much into it.

I’m autistic and this is my ULTIMATE hyperfixation. it has been for about two years now. I remember seeing it in 2016, i was 7 at the time. i was already a weirdo, being really interested in corpses, being a mortician, cleaning up death scenes and stuff like that. This just amplified it. I’m 14 now and this is genuinely one of my favorite things EVER. I love this film so much that i can recite the lore by memory. I cannot wait for w2h2!

This has been the most frustrating and weirdest few days Sock has had. He buries his parents while stabbing himself after, meets Mephistopheles, gets Johnathan as the person he’s supposed to make kill themselves, literally goes insane doing the job assigned, fails, and is told his job sucked. HOW IS SOCK STILL SO POSITIVE ABOUT THE JOB?!

9 years later, this is still a masterpiece.

So I think what I like the most out of this is the fact that Mephistopheles doesn't actually want to torture Johnathan either, the same way he offered Sock the job as a demon. I love this idea of the Devil being lenient on certain types of people. He has a job to do but he's something of a sympathetic troll. It's not a characterization you see done well all that often anymore.

How nostalgic...first time I watched this when I was 17...and now I'm 26...damn...thanks for this masterpiece... still waiting for the 2nd ep,love u!!!!
