What Are Americans Afraid Of? 

You should be afraid of losing net neutrality. Seriously, don't fuck this up.

What i’m afraid of? These are my top five in order. 1. World War 2. End of the world 3. My death... (By natural cause or by climate change or by any other causes.) 4. Being alone until i die. (Without a partner or any family or friends.) 5. Having a job that i’m not interested in and ending up being homeless.

"Getting into another World War" "Yeah...okay" Honestly, based on our current Government's military leadership and uses, this fear seems reasonable

biggest fear: Growing older with Alzheimer and forgetting everybody I ever cared about. While people say that it isn't genetic, the number of people on my father's side of the family that are affected by a form of Alzheimer is high and it has made a lot of us fear for what might happen to the rest of us. Each time I meet or hear about an older uncle or aunt that is constantly forgetting everything and everyone I don't just see them... I see myself as them, and it scares me to death.

My fear is stepping on a Lego again

I'm scared that the term "medical debt" exists and real people in a developed country have to deal with it. As a Canadian the idea of financially crippling your citizens with healthcare costs is unconscionable.

Honestly, most of the things on that list but a more personal one is insects if one lands on me, gets to close to me or surprises me, I freeze in place. :-(

While this was a cool video and I did enjoy it, the premise is a little bit off. They start talking about what the most common 'fear' of Americans, citing that things such as spiders and clowns would be expected to be at the top of the list, then go to say that it's surprising that more 'real' fears are on the list. What they are doing here is comparing concerns with phobias. The spiders and such that they mention in the video are phobias, irrational, extreme aversions to certain things, and it's just not correct for them to compare those to the concerns of a population with things such as climate change. Of course spiders arent going to be on a list of common 'fears' when you are surveying people about social and pollitical concerns rather than phobias. Don't get me wrong, I thought the information they had about the different social concerns and fears was very interesting, it just annoyed me that they then compared it to a completely different set of data

In India schools in the NCR were shut down and then had their starting times delayed due to intense air pollution. I own a air purifier now. Few more years of this crap and people will start selling bottled air, like in the Lorax.

i’d say loneliness and failure are some of my biggest personal fears. of course i’m scared of war and pollution, but being alone and failing in life just sounds so catastrophic considering everyone around you is just dandy while you suffer in silence.

Depending on the methodology of the study the results wouldn't be that surprising. Did they ask people to name their fears or did they give them a premade list of what to be afraid of? The facr that you can say that over 70% of people fear corruption leads me to believe it's the latter, and there is a high probability all the options were leaning towards more social and environmental problems rather than psychological

I understand what you meant by the phrase, but none of those fears, which range from likely to plausible, are more real than spiders and the dark. They are definitely more likely to have terrible consequences though, and obviously that was your point.

I hate to point this out but I’m pretty confident this study was just done in California not “across America”. In my personal opinion the east coast does not really fear the top 5. Neither does the south.
