A glorified infantryman (11B), but every bit the grunt and a bit more dangerous as local Fire Support Specialist ... your FIST guy that can bring big guns, mortars, air support, naval gunfire, whatever assets you have. Enemy target #1, platoon leader - the LT .... #2? Me or the heavy/automatic weapon (M60, SAW?), heavy weapon or me. Early death either way if up to them.

If you understand the various MOSes on the army side (12A,B,C,N) vs the MOSes on the Marines side (1302, 1371), doing a video broken down like this might make for a good video.

@RGR2155
@RGR2155 2 года назад
Generally speaking guys get RFSd out of the regiment for a number of reasons. This can be from general poor performance, to legal troubles like getting a DUI or for not successfully getting their Ranger Tab in an appropriate amount of time. When people say it’s harder to stay in, it’s because some people can shine long enough pass selection but generally don’t have the personalities to perform at that level for the long term, or lack the maturity as time goes on. This is of course a broad statement I’m giving and conversations at great length would be required to fully address the question at hand.

Does one have a different mission set than the other. Discussing RQS vs STS. I know STS deploys with more SOF units and RQS does more rescues. Does RQS in the guard do more state side rescues than the reserve RQS PJ’s do ? How often do reserve and guard PJ’s get deployed. I also wanted to ask if you can go in depth to the Special Warfare Preparatory Course. Are more guys weeded out in PREP or A&S. Also Where they are stationed in the Guard and Reserve. OK, realizing this question may be hyper-classified, I'll ask and see. There was a mater's thesis out in the Net about 10 years ago that said the Rangers' goal for the 21st century was to re-organize and take a lot of Delta's then-current jobs and leave Delta to do only the super-classified, covert stuff. Has that gone the way of the buffalo, because it looks like the battalions have the same organization they've had since Rumsfeld, rather than a very hybrid organization of operational groups. In any case, very cool stuff.

Personally I think there should be a different pipeline for support personnel. Having everbody go through the same course that is designed more for combat personnel isn't a good idea. It's like having all support personnel to go through their unit's respective selection, likeSFG personnel need to go through SFAS & Q course, SEAL support personnel need to go through BUDS & SQT as well, or like Delta support personnel also need to attend the gruelling 95% fail rate selection and OTC.

My dad got to the rank of Colonel and he never had personal staff. However, when my dad was attached to the Headquarters for the First Cavalry Division, the Major General in charge of the Division had an Aide-de-Camp and the Aide-de-Camp, who was a Captain, did scheduling, made phones for him, would sometimes drive the General, basically acted as his secretary. The Division Commander (Major General) also lived in a house on base and had a Staff Sergeant who was his cook, was hostess when he had people over for dinner, served the food to his guests, ran errands, cleaned his place and took care of, etc. So many Generals have one officer as an Aide-de-Camp and one enlisted person as kind of a cook, personal assistant, etc. I do know the Army Chief of Staff is authorized an officer Aide-de-Camp and 4 enlisted aides. It is worth noting however that pretty much no officers below the rank of Brigadier General have personal staff, and not even all Generals have aides. Like my Dad's current boss is also a Major General, but he doesn't have any aides at all. So some Generals have personal staffs (particularly if they're commanders of big units) but not all do. Here's the Army regulation about personal staff for Generals quartermaster.army.mil/jccoe/Special_Programs_Directorate/Enlisted_Aide_web_documents/AR%20614-200-%20par%208-11.pdf

@@jackschirmer9508 Oh so in other words, US has done away with Orderlies? I remember reading about how Patton (then Captain) during WW1 was saved by his orderly (Some PFC). So, I wanted to clarify if the officers irrespective of ranks still get orderlies (Like British Officers get Batman).
@jackschirmer9508
@jackschirmer9508 3 года назад
@@ADWYETYATRIPATHYBEI Yes, the US pretty much doesn't have orderlies anymore. Like I said it is common for some General officers to have aides, but I've never heard of anyone below Brigadier General having an aide. And even with aides for Generals it says in Department of Defense regulation ""No officer may use an enlisted member as a servant for duties that contribute only to the officer's personal benefit and that have no reasonable connection with the officer's official responsibilities." So even Generals are limited in what they can ask aides to do

Anyone on here been to Ranger school? If so, what new things did you learn and take back with you to teach to your unit?

Ranger school April - June ‘71. Returned to Second Brigade LRRPS working for Bde S-2. Discharged to a Ranger Company in the National Guard. Taught topics contained in the Ranger handbook, which was essentially patrolling techniques.

@@rascal0175 that’s amazing. Anything you learned from your time in LRRPS that you wish they taught at Ranger school?

@@LtActionCam Actually Ranger school accommodated E-4s, 5s and maybe an E-6 by providing specialized LRRP/LRP training. It was substituted for the traditional company sized operation with beach landing in the Florida phase. The LRRP training was involuntary and limited to soldiers going to Ranger/LRP units in Vietnam on graduation. I was the exception as I was returning to a LRRP unit in the 82nd. The instructors were LRPS/Rangers recently returned from Vietnam. So this was exceptional training provided to mission specific solders taught by mission specific combat veterans. I don’t know who made that call but I thought it was a wise choice. A real world mission trumped the standard school curriculum. Before Ranger school I attended the 82nd’s Recondo school and took the 4 week long LRRP course, which was dedicated exclusively to recon patrols. This was about collection and not getting caught. A companion Raider course that taught combat patrolling was also available at the Recondo school. The LRRP course and Ranger school were both bastards but for different reason. Now, at 74, I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m still pretty fit and ready to rock if need be. I think all that physical fitness training had a long term effect. In answer to your question, no. LRRP training was very specific to that particular war and mission. I suspect Ranger training adapts to missions that meet current national security needs and foreign affairs goals and objectives. We do what we need to do when we need to do it. Times change.
