I live in NC and don't have a tractor, so I can't really relate to this video, but I still enjoyed it. I'm that guy that could watch someone take apart a submarine and just be enthralled. Good job explaining stuff and showing the importance of regular maintenance. I'll be on the lookout for the video about the ash that just fell.

@@WSTMike well I have been a big advocate of taking care of and cleaning all of my tools, cars, campers pretty well everything I own! My whole family and extended family knows how picky I am about my stuff! They always poke fun at me and say you bought this stuff to use it. I always respond with I do use it I’m just careful not to tear it up and scratch and beat my stuff up while doing so!🤣 That’s why most of my belongings still appear to be brand new. So I guess the if it’s broke don’t fix it is one things I took from my dad and used a preventative way of thinking to avoid problems!

preventative maintenance is some of the hardest stuff to do to any equipment if you procrastinate BUT it can also help in prolonging the equipment as we see in this video where the tractor is 20 plus years old. ive worked with ppl that hated pm's but after it costing him thousands to replace a few things, he wised up and quit making excuses and he put the services in his calendar so he could do what he needed to keep his stuff up and running.
@WSTMike
@WSTMike 2 года назад
PM's are frequently missed and neglected by most. In my line of work I have many wood plants that do a very good job hitting the PM schedule. They change many things before they even break. All based on wear and tear and service hours. You were exactly right. Your man wised up and not he's running more and being productive. The mentality that we only pay for services when things are broke is crazy. Pay before they break is what people need to grasp onto.

I am like Phil I don'tt have tractors but watching some take something apart just because. Count me in.. Preventive maintenance in key to everything.. To a point " if it ain't broke don't fix it" almost go hand in hand.. But when something is starting to make noise that is should not be making ita time to look into why.. My dad has been using Amsoil products since the early 80s I also run it in my cars and trucks too..

I’ve got a New Holland T2410 that I bought this time last year. I am planning on changing the oil in the front end in the next couple weeks, so excellent timing. On a different topic, how do you like that pex for running your air line in the garage? I’ve heard mixed reviews. Finally, I always add Anti Seize to all my lug bolts. Makes it easier to remove.
@WSTMike
@WSTMike 2 года назад
Hi John! The T2410 is a 55hp unit if I recall? Nice size tractor! I am running 3/4 pex and have not had one use since I installed it 3 years ago. I bought a kit with the tools and did it all myself. I really like it and took no time to install. Just take your time cutting the pex straight and beveling out the ends. It won’t leak if you take your time. I have been hesitant on putting anti seize on lug bolts. Always was concerned they would loose and walk out. That may not be the case? I have used the Amsoil HD which has done me well. I appreciate you sharing and commenting. Very good stuff! Good luck with the oil change! WST

When we work on equipment at the dealer we have angle iron cut to various lengths .Raise the loader to full height measure between the chrome rod and the barrel and cut a piece of angle iron to fit one one each side .I electric tape or zip tie them on to the cylinder so they will not slip off. Then lower loader so weight is on the angle iron!
@garny3766
@garny3766 2 года назад
WST, good pmcs but here is my take on these front ends…most part they are slick and give good ground clearance but are they built for heavy loader work…no. It doesn’t matter which make either. Everyone is on borrowed time until a bearing failure. I predict Chris will be having his failure with in the next year. I’ve done about every make. It’s poor design…at least the ones with ball bearings. I’ve switched some drain plugs to magnetic plugs to help remove metal but the ball bearings are not the right bearings for this application. And from factory they will probably hold up fine but folks start adding ballasted tires, then 3 point weight all in the hopes of getting more lift capacity but in turn adding much more stress on the front wheels. Also running around in 4wd all the time stresses these too. Which bearing did you have fail on other side?…inboard? Outboard? Both?
@WSTMike
@WSTMike 2 года назад
Hi Garny! That is a very astute observation. I use this tractor to lift a lot of logs. I agree the the ball bearing design is not optimal after thinking about what you said. A Roller bearing design would be better? The outboard bear is what went and then took out the seal. The bevel gears were fine, as was the inboard bearing. I took everything apart and had a machine shop press everything on and off. I supplied the best Timken bearings I could find. I just changed inboard/outboard out to be on the safe side. I completely agree with your analysis and appreciate you sharing this with me. I would love your opinion on my 50 year old log splitter. I’ve seen you build a splitter and overhaul the Rugged Made. If you have time, take a look at my vid called Finally Splitting Maple Firewood. She has good bones, but it is terribly slow. Let me know if you have any questions. I’ll even email you all the specs! I need some expertise on this one. Thanks for commenting and sorry for the long response. WST
@andrewslagle1974
@andrewslagle1974 2 года назад
I am an ag mechanic by trade, the front end with the( bevel gear) type like the newholland he is working on ,kubota ,kioti are used to provide tight steering angle. The larger models use a truck style front axle design but that style has less steering angle. I have seen that style fails also .I have seen jd, newholland shear off the hub .All the bearing failures are in my opinion (normal wear) for a loader tractor. People over load and over work these small tractors but if you catch them in time its just some seals and bearings.The big thing is to change ,check the fluid in them .
@WSTMike
@WSTMike 2 года назад
@@andrewslagle1974thank you very much for this information. I know I tend to push my tractor a bit too far at times. Fluids will be checked and changed on a regular basis for sure. Could I ask what you’ve heard about the Shibaura Diesels? Good longevity? That’s what I have now and hoping to run this tractor for a long time. It has 1700 hours on it, which isn’t that much. Thanks for commenting. I really appreciate it.
@garny3766
@garny3766 2 года назад
@@andrewslagle1974 I agree with what you said but what my beef is is the bearings. These should be tapered roller bearings. Single row ball bearings are not the correct bearings for these front axle loader applications. I see some mfgs have switched oil to a atf fluid. Not sure if that will help.
