Good video! The guy who answers questions at the dealer, used to work at the Deli down the street, a week ago. The quality of some of these employees is getting bad. I've been lucky for years, the dealers I've dealt with were really good, but those days are gone. I travel 80 miles to deal with the last one by me, that is still decent.

One more thing. I wanted the oil cooler guard but the parts book said you can’t use the fan and the guard. I had replaced my cooler two years ago and already had a few dings in the new one. So I bought some black gutter leaf guard from Lowe’s and made a guard for my stock shroud. It looks good too.

Am not picturing it, hopefully it does not inhibit the shedding of heat too much.

HD also makes a rear cylinder fan.
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts Год назад
Yes, that fan is to reduce radiated heat to the rider and passenger, it does not cool the rear cylinder at all...just pulls air from around the legs and down under the bike so that there is less heat radiating out to the legs. It is similar in purpose of the EITMS, which is for rider comfort, not for cooling the engine. You can see a Harley Dealership Manager talking about this at this link- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T2aG284iCKc.html

2019 Tri Glide here and being in South Florida I always do two things, aside from removing the Catalytic Converter (doing a full stage 1), which is about rider comfort and performance, it 1. I install Love Jugs on the trike and 2. I change the oil religiously every 3000 miles. We can blame the EPA for all the heat issues.
@jeffreyengle2762
@jeffreyengle2762 Год назад
Hey, it’s me again, I have watched every one of these videos believe it or not and there’s two things that come out in every one of these videos and that is hard numbers…… the reality here is most of these motorcycles don’t have any way of telling us hard numbers without an actual oil temperature gauge. This is something you guys need in your parts catalog is a dipstick oil temperature gauge. I looked long and hard I found two or three purchased two. The first one I purchased was a piece of garbage, and they are all ridiculous in expense….. the second one I found actually works very well with the exception of the fact that it builds a little condensation inside if you use it during rain or humid days. I found it on eBay and I think the price tag was around $125 and it’s worked very well and I will be taking it to the desert with us on our 16 day hop this year. The only drawback that I could see is, if you are using your dipstick as a place to vent the engine case then you will need to relocate that vent in order to use it. I did essentially what Trask did to their cover, and I also vented my breathers to atmosphere, ran both of those down below the bike so that I could use my dipstick for a temp gauge. Again, if we have hard numbers and no way to actually look and see those hard numbers, it’s pretty pointless really because there’s no way that the side of your jeans is going to give you the same as a temperature gauge just my two bits.
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts Год назад
Hey Jeffery! Yeah, if we had the time and space we would carry far more parts. The oil temp dipstick we have been using for years now is the one from JesCustoms. We have had one go bad, and they replaced it quickly under warranty. All the other ones have held up extremely well. We don't mess with dipstick or trans vents...they are a bandaid, at best, so we don't have that concern on fitment. Of course, what would be best is that HD quit hiding the oil temp and display it on the dash...but I doubt that is going to happen.

Just wanna thank you guys. For that video. I have a 21 Street Glide. And a 97 sportster xl1200 custom The funny part is I clicked on it before I looked at upload date. As I'm watching i started to wonder how long ago you had put this out. Not but a few seconds later you featured it in your video. Stating it was 275.95 and they were on back order. All true however I purchased/ordered mine February 3 there was a 3.00 price jump. From then till now Witch was a cross the board simultaneously. I also had purchased the cool flow rear fan that sits just below the mid air deflectors I was always worried about it getting to hot. Just cause the stuff I know and things I've heard anyway done a lot of modifications over the winter season. Got about 4or5 things I'm going to need digital tech to take care of. The last part being that oil cooler fan. Which will be here by April 8. Come July or so. I'll let you know what I think

You are correct that the fan is out of stock. I checked both local Dealers and HD’s online store. They say it will be back in stock by April. I wanted to get one before Daytona Bikeweek this year and found one in stock at a Dealer 80 miles north of me. I installed it myself and took it to my local dealer to flash it. with tax the fan was a little less than $300 and the flash was $60. Which is 1/2 hour labor. A lot of money but I hope it’s worth it. BTW: they had two of the rear cylinder fans on the shelf too.

Gus, do not waste your money on the rear cylinder fan.
@DKCustomProducts

Glad you found one, it should help oil temps some in slow and stopped traffic. The "rear cylinder fan" is for rider and passenger comfort only, it does not cool down the engine at all, but it does help keep some of the heat from radiating onto the legs in slow and stopped traffic. There are a lot of other things that you can do to get it running cooler, here is a link to a video on 10 low and no cost ways- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o3T3yA9BKwE.html

I think when people say it’s normal to run at 325 plus they are confused and talking about head temp cause there is no way people are like oh ya 325 plus for the oil lol.
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts Год назад
Yes, it can be a bit confusing. Oil on all Harley's should not go above 230 F. AND, YES, there are plenty of folks that comment regularly on RU-vid and the Harley Forums that there is nothing wrong with the oil temp going over 300 F..."synthetics are made to withstand that heat and more"...oh, and plenty of Dealership employees spread that same silly hogwash. Little side note- on a Twin Cam with an oil cooler, and a few cooling strategies in place, when the engine is Fully Heat Soaked, the oil and the temp sensor will be within 5 F of each other...ideally between 210-220 F for both. Temp Sensor embedded in the head: Sportster should not go above 375 F Twin Cams ideally should not go above 230 F, but at 270 F Harley retards the timing dramatically to try and get the temps down M8's ideally should not go above 260 F, but, like the Twin Cam, at 270 F Harley retards the timing dramatically to try and get the temps down Here is a video showing how dramatically Harley cuts power when they start getting too hot (270 F) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5PxJ8PvcVtc.html And here is a video explaining a bit more about optimum temps on Harleys. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rWOdQOtDv6A.html

Kevin and Dewayne great work. I have a 2018 Electra Glide that appeared to me to be running extremely hot. It wasn’t until I purchased a VH FP3 that I was able to determine how hot. The sensor which I believe is on the back cylinder towards the intake manifold was measuring between 290 and 355 F per the FP 3. The bike is oil cooled. Do you know what is an acceptable temperature for that sensor?

2021 Road Glide. When I picked it up on an 80 degree day, it would show 310 degrees measured at the head near the spark plug. With Love Jugs fans, it’s never above 265, and averages about 250, both via the FP4, and via the infrared temp gun near the spark plug. The highest oil temp I’ve seen (with Love Jugs) is 200 degrees, in AZ, riding 300+ miles in a day.

Thanks, glad you found the video interesting/useful. 👍 Harley is a public company and answers to their shareholders as much, or more, than their Customers. If it is not a correct answer, it is never made visible on their site. While I was at it, I also verified with Harley Corporate that this fan is thermostatically controlled to turn on at 220 F. So yes, anyone can write an answer, BUT, that answer is not shown on their website until it has been vetted by a Harley employee.
