I have always told myself, “I’m not a dog - I don’t have to earn a treat.”🤣 That is something that helped me mentally, just taking value in myself as a Child of God who was made in His image. It’s definitely interesting to see the impact society has on young people. You and I were raised during a time when body image (being skinny) was all the rage. Today, it’s “just do you” no matter how unhealthy it is. Both can be detrimental. 😞 I am glad you open up about topics that many of us deal with. My stepdad told me that I’d be beautiful “when I grew taller and grew big boobs.” I was 13 years old, 85 pounds, and 4’11”. Needless to say, I *knew* I was done growing - and what I heard is that I would never be beautiful. I read 1 Samuel 16:7 today with my daughter in our Bible study. It was such a great reminder of what’s truly important - our hearts and souls for the Lord. Praying that our children and your listeners also keep that Truth close.

I remember a few years back watching/hearing you talk about choosing a late night snack ahead of time (I think you picked a fruity Greek yogurt). I loved and stole that idea. Knowing ahead of time that after my kids go to sleep and I sit down with my husband to watch a show I will want a treat/snack...planning ahead and having something already chosen and set aside is a game changer! Thanks for this video!

I am so encouraged to hear you talking about this! I struggled with a eating disorder when I was younger, it has taken a lot of healing to even admit that to myself. I was a dancer and a stress starver when I was younger, and there were lots of comments on my small size and encouragement to stay that way. It has been a extremely hard journey to getting to a size that I am comfortable with while also eating enough and not punishing myself. I just wish medical professionals would not rely so much on things like BMI which is so outdated. I needed to be reminded of this today as I still struggle with these things, thank you!!

Such a great reminder on how to treat our bodies. Fitness pal works so well for reminding me to not over or under eat. And I learned about my fitness pal from you! I need to get consistent with it again especially during the holidays. Thank you for this reminder! I’ve always loved the “mom fitness file” videos! I still go back every now and then to remind myself of the past tips you’ve shared. This definitely belongs in there.

I grew up similar on top of so much more😞 I too vowed to never have my children experience what I went through and they are so free and happy it’s the last thing on their minds abs for that I’m grateful! Thank you for sharing. I have struggled with this as well, including a larger body type (calves and upper arms even as a young woman and I was at a healthy weight. I’m working back to a better weight after a complete hysterectomy. The hormone upheaval is real! I would appreciate hearing more about your journey with PCOS. Thank you

Thank you so much for this, so encouraging and just what I needed to hear. I had many similar experiences growing up and am now trying to educate myself and protect my daughter. May I ask two questions please? First I grew up as a dancer too and recognise the issues you mention. My 6 year old loves ballet but I’m concerned for her. Do you allow your daughters to dance and if so how do you handle these issues with them? Also I watched a video about intermittent fasting and it went against everything I had been learning about healthy nutrition. Is that something you would recommend or not? I have Celiac and Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism. I can't have sugar, gluten, dairy, soy, fruit, or grains. I'm fine with I'm at home but when I leave the house on errands or at someone else's house, it's so hard. I found myself indulging in junk, once I start eating junk I binge, in my mind I already messed up with my food choices so might as well eat everything I want. That leads to days or weeks of eating bad. One thing I don't ever eat is the gluten cuz gluten is the devil 😂 and I don't want to be in the bathroom for a few days in so many days after. I planned around this Thanksgiving and I stayed away from the junk. I'm slowly starting finally better, health wise, I don't want to ruin my healing process with junk! I have to take it day by day and even sometimes hour by hour when I'm dealing with stress! I'm working on learning to not eat my emotions and deal with stress control!

By teaching them about nutrition and treating their bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit. Also applying the fruits of the spirit, one of which is self control to this area allows them to have a correct understanding of what it means to be healthy.

I have punished myself for years. I'm a redeemed bulimic.🙌 My childhood was not kind as a parent and a sibling constantly made me feel less than bc of the shape of my body. I was ashamed at how God created me. And yet when I look back on photos from that time, I was teeny tiny. Emotional abuse was something that took a long time to heal from and I can gladly say that my parent asked for forgiveness this year.💜 God does heal the broken hearted and He does mend things. I'm in my late 30s and I still struggle with my physical identity, but I have grown to understand that when I reach heaven, God isn't going to judge me whether or not I remained a size 4. So in light of eternity, it means very little. Eat well, move our bodies, and use them to glorify the Father- that is my goal. Thank you for this video and for your loving and kind encouragement to all parents.💜

The way I felt about my body growing up is similar to your story, I wasn't skinny, I wasn't fat either, I would skip meals a lot because I thought was fat, I w a s so self conscious, I felt like i was always trying to hide. You are so right, once I started educating myself things improved,I feel better about myself and my body now. I don't want this to be my be daughter's story, she is 6, she is not skinny or fat either but she is in ballet and she loves it. But I don't want her to become self conscious like I was.. any tips on how to prevent this? How to prevent my story from being her story??

While I don’t think there are “bad” or “good” foods - there are definitely “food-like products” that really do not serve your body in any way and are nutritionally depleting. Eating REAL, whole food is the most important thing, & teaching your children what is real and what is not healthy is important. But not being crazy or making them feel shameful if they do choose something unhealthy occasionally. There are many many “health” foods out there now, but they’re not much better than an Oreo or Dorito - they’re still ultra processed. Regarding counting macros - I think it can be done in a healthy way but someone could still eat junk all day and have it fit their macros. That’s not serving their body in any way and to me it’s still a tad obsessive. I come from an ED background. My philosophy I try to adhere to and teach my kids is just eat real food, and your body will thrive (given there’s not a leaky gut, toxic burden, etc). 🍎🍉🍌🍒🥥🥦🥬🥒🥑🥚🍓🍇
