Kevin Shen hey Kevin. I’m considering doing something similar, but using a flip phone as a sort of “in-between” solution; not connected to the whole world 24/7, but still being able to connect with select friends and emergency services. I’ve started just taking the flip phone with me when I go outside, and people do actually just talk to me on the street, I look around more. And because I’m using a Motorola Razr v3xx (yep the one from 2006), it’s kind of a conversation starter.

A couple years ago I went without a phone for two months after my phone got stolen and I didn't have enough $ to buy a new one yet. I realized I can do everything I really need on my laptop anyways and I found lots of free WiFi areas outside to leech from if I REALLY had to reconnect. Awesome vid! More people should try this

Cal's Digital Minimalism is one of my best reads of 2019 and I highly recommend it too. There is a significant part of me that wants to deactivate my IG acct for a month and see how it goes, esp after watching this video. What's there to lose, right? Perhaps I will do it for you, Kevin. I will say that it takes courage to admit to the world that you do feel lonely bc it sounds like a real shortcoming, if not failure, so I applaud you for sharing that. I admit to feeling lonely regularly and I feel a bit more comfortable just typing this bc you said it in the video. Sure, plenty of micro-interactions but when push comes to shove, who will actual show up in real life to help you, ask you how you are and follow up? A handful of people? I'm willing to bet that for most, not even that. I believe Cal mentions in his book about numerable weak ties but very few deep, I-got-your-back relationships for most people.

I’m in sales mine are always 8hrs :/ even on my days off I have to respond and advertise I love my job but at least one day without it sounds amazing and full of anxiety lol 😂
