Excellent presentation Kari! I've even super glued the skull cap and it works very well but using glue involves very careful and precise measures because the glue sticks and dries rapidly. Keep teaching and sharing your vast knowledge!

It is amazing what you guys have to do to make a body presentable for viewing...especially after an autopsy. Thanks, Kari for all you do, both in your profession and in educating us. Another lesson learned!!

Learned something else new! Question, what is that noise in the background? I thought about an embalming, but then thought no..... chances are very low Kari wouldn’t wear PPE if that was going on.

Fascinating! I never even thought about how the skull would be refastened after an autopsy. Now I know! Question: if a person wants to donate their brain to research (such as people like me who have MS), can that be done without disfiguring the body, since the brain is surrounded by bone? And is that an arrangement that has to be done in writing before the person passes? Thanks for honest and tastefully done videos.

I wondered how to use those lol. I have a pack sitting in my bottom drawer at work. I've been cutting the flat mouthformers into 4 and using them like butterfly clips with Super Glue. lt works but l'll give the clamps a go next time. Thanks for that, l appreciate it.

This video reminds me of an interesting thing that happened a long time ago. I was a hospital corpsman in the Navy working in the lab. There was a mortician who worked M-F helping with autopsies. One Sat when I had duty the 2 other lab techs. were snickering. Finally they told me that there was an unusual weekend autopsy and the lowest on the totem pole (me) had to assist. I had seen a lot of wounds in the Vietnam War so I didn't expect to be so grossed out. After the autopsy was finished the pathologist just left the room and there I was alone not knowing what to do. The worst part was when I put the top of the scull on and was trying to sew the skin together the top of the scull would not stay in place but kept sliding off. I wish that calvarium clamps were available. After many hours I finally got things sewn together but the scull still kept sliding off. ;-(

I picked a Man up that had been In a motorcycle accident. No Helmet .the front of his Skull was pushed back ..I took him to a Crematorium and waited for the make up specialist to get there to fix him up .his family was beating on the doors wanting to see him .so the make up guy had to work fast ..He grabbed Man by the the back of his head and with his other hand ,he used his palm and kept punching the guy on the head ..I asked " What are you doing ? .He said that this mans brain had turned sideways apon impact and that he needed to jar the skull until the brain sat back where it was supposed to be ...Sure enough ..the mans face popped back to normal shape and the make up guy continued to fix him up so the family could come in and see him

If you're cut around your head, does that mean they cut your forehead?? ..if so, how do you keep that from being noticed during the viewing if the family wants an open casket?? (btw, I love your videos, & thank you for always answering my questions)

No they make an incision from behind the ear around the crown to back of the head to the opposite ear.

The clamps are screwed into place, then the flap of skin, with or without hair is pulled over the cranium again and sutured in place. The clamps are effectively 'under the skin' then 👍

Really odd question. So im missing a chunk of my skull where it shattered in an accident its on the top of my head. I have a plate there where the piece would be (a chunck of brain under it is missing also). What do you with people who have a situation like mine when the 2 peices get put back together? Do you fill in where the plate was or does the plate stay with the body?
