Having lived in Northern BC I have found it to be that the Northern people both Canada and Alaska are truly caring and helpful without expectation of payment. It's just something one does..............cheers
Could you do another series of driving to Alaska? I’ve been binge watching your videos and back in 2009 I drove from Anchorage to close to Green Bay after the military. 3600 miles in 3.5 days with 2 kids, a cranky wife, and 2 dogs. Made for a hell of a trip. Wish I had taken more pictures of it and I’d do it all over again when the girls are out of the nest!
I hope that you find all us Canadians as friendly as you did during your breakdown. I know I'm watching these out of order, lol. Too late to start over.
Most of them that aren't liberals live in Canada. $30 Canadian for that leak fix, come on that's about $15 bucks American and in Alberta without provincial sales tax a bargain!!! Trouble is most Canucks have had all this stuff heaped on them at one time or another and we all know mother nature and stupidity will kill you in a heart beat so we actually, in general, look out for guys that are having a bit of bad luck out there. It's in our nature. Sorry!!!
Hi Dave , thanks for the reply on the last video . In this part of the world , when we stop to help , you get the FULL MEAL DEAL . I'm sure people in Alaska do the same . We will not let anyone get stranded or freeze to death . Good thing you got the BUGS worked out of your car before entering the NORTH . Towns are farther apart with no services in between . I have been up to Dawson City a few times , beautiful trip . Hope to see you on your return trip . ATB Ken 🇨🇦 .
❤️ my keyboard player and I have driven to many places in Canada. Oh yes. Oh Edmonton and then up to Rainbow Lake…yes the Canadian roads. Nothing like them and we drove a 1974 Chevy cargo van, back then
Hey Dave loved this video, I empathize with you at so many levels. The prairies are a tough place to be and I have spent a few nights in Edmonton and Fort Sask. I hear you about the discomfort of trying to stay in some of these places and yearning to get into more forested habitat, it makes me feel claustrophobic in cities when I travel. I have done the trip from Kamloops to Fort St John a few times, 1,000kms, passing through Prince George, Chetwynd and Dawson Creek. The Peace Region is a beautiful area and I have canoed on the Peace River. I drove up to the Yukon in my 1982 RV, probably cost me more in gas than I paid for it, I had an alternator go in Watson Lake, then the brakes began to fail. The guys there were super friendly and cheap. The trip then went well until I was 400 kms from home, then one of the back wheels came off as I was crossing a bridge. OH YEAH...I'M A HUGE FAN OF THE OLD COLEMAN STOVES. :)
Right on. Did you take the bypass of Dawson Creek, where you leave chetwynd and drive up through Hudson Hope? There is a hill on that leg that is soon steep! Beautiful country though.
I've done it both ways, I remember Pine Pass, that got washed out not too long ago. I drove up that steep hill you mention with a heavy camper on the back of my 95 Dodge dually . Chetwynd, of course, is famous for its chainsaw carvings. I live in the Southern Interior of BC.
4 years later I watch these and love the way the lord helps the ones that follow his words. I have been finding my faith after 30 years of living an immoral life it just amazes me how god works in our life everyday
Sounds like you broke down in the right place to me, plenty of help from good people. You were well taken care of and came out of it in one piece. Imagine having that same break down on the side of I-75 in Detroit... I'll bet it doesn't sound so bad to break down in Ft. Saskatchewan now!
Very interesting series. I thought I had already watched this, but I was wrong. I better get back to welding for now. Can't wait to see more of this tonight.
Thanks Brian. I've shot two seasons of the road trip up to AK....they are similar but different. One is an hour long , the other is a 5 part series......or was it 6?
You were fortunate to run into such good people. That head gasket sealer is great stuff to know about. I packed a fuel pump years ago on a long road trip. My car at the time was prone to need one every now and then :-) Of course back then they were easy to get to, being external to the block with just 2 bolts and the fuel line..
Yeah the good old days of fuel pumps.! The Fuel pump in the escort is under the back seat so its really easy to get at. Im still driving that car with the head gasket "juice" in it. It says its a permanent fix.....thats quite a bold claim....it may actually be true. Who knows what that stuff is plugging up in my engine...in the process of fixing the head gasket..but it works.
Amen Dav God our father is always there for you i could not do nothing each day with out him god bless you and brook on your journerys to your cabins yes and God blessyou and your family
Ham... butter... mustard.... on rye? What a combo! Never tried that. Sounds like one crazy day 3, glad u got thru it n hope the rest of ur trip was trouble free!
I loved this whole series. In some ways it reminded me of some of the solo road trips that I've gone on, sleeping in the truck, logging many lonely miles through the mountains trying to get somewhere. God certainly does seem let things break down in just the right places! I've had that happen many a time to me in the past!
As long as the block did'nt get too hot to warp the head itself, you should be good to change the head gasket. If the head is warped, you would have to find a new head, or have that one ground before installing a new gasket. I had all that fun many years ago in my old Datsun. Rye bread rocks! Be well and TFS!
Ahhh takes me back to when I was driving that old piece of junk Opel Astra. Loved that car. That one looong road trip you are taking there..and twice pr year??!
I feel for ya Dave. Watching this makes wish I could reach out and help ya. We need to set up a fund drive to help ya out a little. I'm willing to help if you'll set up the Pay-Pal process. Just an idea. -Stephen, Ohio
we do have that brand also, been in outside sales for auto parts for 14 years :) those fixes work for a bandaid but it will eventually swell up other gaskets etc as thats its job, so just get that head fixed asap :)
or jus get another cheap car ? either way bestest of luck :) You rock and happy that its getting you closer to your destination :) NOW HURRY UP OLOLOL JK JK
I like these trips. I've watched a few. I blew a head gasket once and I went to fix it and the man charged me an arm and a leg for it and it wasn't fixed. My car ran hot at every traffic light. He literally ruined it. But, it had 352,000 miles on it. I drove it enough.
Dav your fog is so pretty i have a little winner dog her id my baby love her so much she is with me every were igo in the house she sleeps rigjt beside me at night our lord shore gave me a little one to take care of and be my buddy again love your fog so beauitful
U should have stopped when u saw those cars in the ditch, even if you only ask can I help you in any way, they may have wanted to warm up a bit. Karma is a b...h.
I wish I could have, but it was an area with no cell coverage , No shoulder on the edge of the road, and semi traffic. It was another accident waiting to happen.
